Wanting to know people’s opinions on, which plants are the most beneficial to plant as a cover crop In between grows? The grow in question is a 4x4 organic, no till bed. Potentially three plus weeks until next group are ready to go in.
I have always grows garlic whith my outdoors grows as they act as natural pest controll against spider mite... probably good indoor to... Chive could be nice alternative to.
A simple clover of some type. Nothing else will have time for anything beneficial. Any green cover crop will help bring your organic soil to life my friend. Go for it!
I do some white clover and let it grow for like 3 weeks then chop it and blend with a heavy top dress acording to a soil test. I do a living bed that is a 4x4 in my 5x5 tent.
Why even bother? Its soil, beneficial enzymes will last and won't be drawn up by a cover crop. Maybe I'm missing something.
But just leave it. Some shamrock/grass typical crop low level bits of grass,
But, again why?
Three weeks is not very long. Almost not worth a cover crop. A big problem is many I can think of don't do well in high heat. I'd pick something fast growing lettuce like arugula. Annual rye would be another choice to prevent erosion though it does germinate and come up fast. You really don't have enough time for traditional nitrogen fixing legumes and many other cover crops like alfalfa don't provide their main benefit until after flowering which can be 8-10 weeks.
