True day 1 for seedlings

It seems like everyone starts counting their seedlings day 1 differently. Is the true 1st day for a seedling when the seed breaks the surface of the soil or when the first true leaves emerge from the cotyledon?

Hey man, good question and I think it just comes down to personal preference. I include the germination progress on my diary as I believe it's also important. I count day 1 when I see the seed pop out the soil that for me is day 1.

You said it yourself: everyone counts differently. But I doubt many people, outside of bloggers, are so fussy they quibble with that seedling stuff; I think most people simply count day 1 as the first day the seed pops up above ground. Given that the grow is going to take anywhere from 60 days to over 100 days to finish, this is one of the silliest "debates" out there. Just count from when it breaks ground like most other people and be done with it.

Hello, Day 1 begins with germination. So the day you get your seeds wet is when it all begins. Many seed breeders timeline for a strain specifies the life of 80 days from germination etc. Or 80 days from seed to flower . You could start it from when it breaks soil, but it may make your timeline off by a week or so.

Hi there! I personally like to count the days from the day I pop the seed but it is up to you where you want to count it but technically when the seed gets moisture it will come to life so it will be like a day 0 for the plant.
