Week 15 - 12 Jan 2019

Plants are getting on nicely. Some of these bagseeds are getting bushier by the week - others getting lankier.

I saw BS#6 braches where nibbled of .. not sure what's doing it. 3 possibilities. locusts, tortoise or deer - all 3 being present in the bush where I'm growing. Anyway, the risks of growing outdoor.

I've watered them once with plan rain water ph'd down from 7.0 to 6.5isch and once with a very diluted mix of BioBizz Grow - 0.5ml/litre - so 2.5ml BioBizz per 5 litre bottle.

The weather has been good 26 - 30 deg C day temps with mild night temps. Except for last night had a downpour with strong winds but didn't look like it bothered them much.

I'm still struggling to determine the sex of some of the plants - some of my first germinated seeds are still not showing clearly #3 & 4 - they show something but not clear what they intend to do. I have found in the past that these waiters can turn out to be hermephrodites. Plants #1 & 2 & 5 turned out to be males. Funny that my first lot of pips turned out to be dodgy. Staring to wonder about moonlight as most subsequent pips overwhelmingly turned out to be females. Also I saw vids on youtube about looking at pips belly buttons to determine likely chances of it being a female - you know the round volcano crater - anyway most of those turned out dodgy - referrring to BS#1 to 6. Excpt to date #6 is female .. but that is being eaten by a deer or tortoise. BTW, I need soil for my 'other' clones that are rooting - I have too many bagseed plants anyway - so may just pull those that are hesitant to show their sex... but I'll still wait till the time is right for them clones to be transplanted to the bags - still another 3+ weeks - I guess.

I accedentally overdid the lst'ing on BS#10 and split it's stem in the mainline section and over enthusiastical lst'd that turned into a hst on plant #14 but seems to be responding nicely. Bend done 2 days ago from photo.and already sub branches are facing upwards

Below is a list of current bagseed plants I have and their sex:

Grow Questions

Hi. Please help me make up my mind re the sex of plants BS#3, 4, 11 & 17. I've included close-ups of the nodes. I've identified all the others as female - just like #15. I'm almost sure they're male - as their preflowers show, I just need the confirmation to pull them.

i I see Balls on 3a and 3b, and maybe 4b................................................And i think 4b, 11 a, b, c, are female ... it is getting clearer if they are bigger. Males are like onions and very round, females are more oval. If you are unsure, add more pics in the next days to look

Ooo new question. Have a look what's causing the discolouration and blothing on my leaves. Read my weekly writeup to grasp what was happeing the week. I googled nute deficiencies/toxicity but it's all confusing me now. Thanks a mil
Leaves Leaf Edges Appear Burnt
Stick answered grow question 6 days ago
Hi @Simsalabim! Sunlight activates photosynthesis and the more sun the plant gets the more nutients it will require. Basically, your plant is consuming loads of nutrients due to sunlight and pre-flowering stretch. She needs more Nitrogen and probably some other elements such as Magnesium, Zinc, Copper... You can increase BioGrow up to 2.5ml/L and add a teaspoon of epsom salts in your solution, this should help her for the next week, but be warned she will soon ask for P and K while entering the flowering stage. Nutrient uptake is probably slow because of the lack of container so you can also consider foliar feeding, this should prevent the deficiencies to spread, but avoid spraying anything once the preflowers are out. Hope this will help, keep us up-to-date and happy growing :facepunch:

When I Google deficiencies / toxicity I can compare some phosphorous deficiencies to your leaves and find out that the symptoms are the same so I would say phosphorus (P) deficiency with the rust part on your leaves , what you called brown blotches. The 2nd deficiency you have is a potassium one (k) as you can see some of your leaves have the edges that are starting to turn brown which is the 1st step then rust spot appears and a discoloration happens. 3rd observation : if the soil is still moist but the leaves are really droopy then it is an over watering issue , the symptoms of an under watering are the same but with a dry soil. 4th on the Bs#18 I can see the lower leaves yellowing which mean you have a nitrogen deficiency. To finish my answer I give you a link to a deficiency / excess chart ( in the comment section) that will allow you to find your issue or at least compare the external diagnosis you get from the Community :v::skin-tone-3:

To answer your question:
They look female to me. What you are seeing are calyxes.

Simsalabim

@Athos, I'm looking at the nuggets next to the calyxes. Some look oval - indicating female - but waiting for pistils - some look like balls - they have litte stems... like a stem and then a ball - whereas the female sex shows a oval ball. But !! remember these are bagseeds - so could be hermie also - @#%%$#^ sons of bitches.

for your split stem, use duct tape to make a bandage , you're trying to prevent air and light getting in. should recover with minimal stress. hope this helps !

@Simsalabim, well i can tell you right now doing anything one week before harvest wont do anything, i mean yeah maybe more resin, but trichomes take around 2 weeks on average to mature to the point where they might produce some THC... same thing with the messing around with the light schedule, same thing with 3 days of darkness... if anything these things will mess up the harvest lol nothing you can really do the last 7 days of a 3 month + grow will have any positive in terms of yield of potency, but HST for sure for sure does help !

@Bulbi, Regarding the one week before harvest issue - I got that from a youtube video. Check out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miicaru5Ycg
he's talking about 5-7 days before harvest.

Like I said, I have not tried it myself and will experiment with my bagseed - see what works for me... but I agree with you, one week before harvest is not going to do much improvement to quality to the harvest result .. me thinks.

This is the worst kind of puffery, nonsense, and wishful thinking stoner growers have perpetuated for years. There is not a farmer on the planet who would butcher his crop prior to harvest to increase yield/potency/flavor or whatever quality you’re after. Sure, when you harvest cane you burn the field to strip it of excess vegetation for processing. But cane is thick and moist enough to withstand it.
Our crop? Leave it alone. Outdoor plants can look awful and have delicious buds. No worries, mate. 39oC. That’s f’ing hot man. Best of luck and enjoy your harvest!

I'm still more convinced that those plants in question are male.. so I have edited the pics with circles where attention need to be. I've also renamed the pics so they can be easier referenced:
BS#3a - nugget - but not clear which sex
BS#3b - a ball on a stem indicates male
BS#3c - mixed salad - can't see what's what
BS#4a - little oval one - possibly female
BS#4b - as bit fatter one - male ?
BS#11a - ball on stem - male
BS#11b - a bump but can't see what
BS#11c - oval nuggets but no pistils
BS#15a - what female should look like
BS#17a - bump
BS#17b - ball on stem

However looking at BS#15a clearly a female, also look like a little stem. Anyway that is my delema a the moment. I will update the situation by next week and see how they develop.
