The plants have grown nicely... sort-off. Some better than others. The evening temperature still on the low side (8 degC) therefore think growth bit slow.
A couple plants looks they have nitrogen burn showing the burnt leaf tips, while others look nitrogen deficient - generally pale green/yellow.
I checked the ph of the runoff .. and was about 7.. so have given them a water feed (Biobizz Grow) with ph 6.5.
Will see by next week how they went on. Also going to be super hot next week... predicted between 31 and 38degC whole week.

Grow Questions

Hi. Please help me make up my mind re the sex of plants BS#3, 4, 11 & 17. I've included close-ups of the nodes. I've identified all the others as female - just like #15. I'm almost sure they're male - as their preflowers show, I just need the confirmation to pull them.

i I see Balls on 3a and 3b, and maybe 4b................................................And i think 4b, 11 a, b, c, are female ... it is getting clearer if they are bigger. Males are like onions and very round, females are more oval. If you are unsure, add more pics in the next days to look

Ooo new question. Have a look what's causing the discolouration and blothing on my leaves. Read my weekly writeup to grasp what was happeing the week. I googled nute deficiencies/toxicity but it's all confusing me now. Thanks a mil
Leaves Leaf Edges Appear Burnt

Hi @Simsalabim! Sunlight activates photosynthesis and the more sun the plant gets the more nutients it will require. Basically, your plant is consuming loads of nutrients due to sunlight and pre-flowering stretch. She needs more Nitrogen and probably some other elements such as Magnesium, Zinc, Copper... You can increase BioGrow up to 2.5ml/L and add a teaspoon of epsom salts in your solution, this should help her for the next week, but be warned she will soon ask for P and K while entering the flowering stage. Nutrient uptake is probably slow because of the lack of container so you can also consider foliar feeding, this should prevent the deficiencies to spread, but avoid spraying anything once the preflowers are out. Hope this will help, keep us up-to-date and happy growing :facepunch:

When I Google deficiencies / toxicity I can compare some phosphorous deficiencies to your leaves and find out that the symptoms are the same so I would say phosphorus (P) deficiency with the rust part on your leaves , what you called brown blotches. The 2nd deficiency you have is a potassium one (k) as you can see some of your leaves have the edges that are starting to turn brown which is the 1st step then rust spot appears and a discoloration happens. 3rd observation : if the soil is still moist but the leaves are really droopy then it is an over watering issue , the symptoms of an under watering are the same but with a dry soil. 4th on the Bs#18 I can see the lower leaves yellowing which mean you have a nitrogen deficiency. To finish my answer I give you a link to a deficiency / excess chart ( in the comment section) that will allow you to find your issue or at least compare the external diagnosis you get from the Community :v::skin-tone-3:

Epic, dude! Also just started growing in SA. Also soil, outdoors, bag seeds and in pots. Snap haha. Using coco/perlite/compost mix (1/1/1) though for soil. Also on about week 3. Must say I think yours are looking better than mine. I started mine in a straight potting soil from Builders Warehouse and I don't think they dug it. Maybe that combined with small pots which I think got a bit too hot for the roots. Mine are a little smaller and yellower than yours.

So well played on using seedling mix! I've got them in that coco/perlite/compost mix now that I mentioned (bought perlite from a nursery and Culterra Compost and a coco brick from Builders Warehouse) and mixed myself) and they're definitely looking better already. What soil are you going to use when you transplant?

Just got my 5 x White Widow Autoflowering XXL seeds (Dinafem from cannabisseeds.co.za) this morning and already got my 2 fabric smart pots, my Freedom Farms Premium Classic Growing Medium - 30L (super soil), Freedom Farms Coco Perlite 50/50 Growing Medium - 25L (for the seedlings so they don't burn in the super soil) and a few other goodies (from futurama.co.za). So amped to start some plants off the right way from the beginning! Think I've already learned a lot so ja gonna be interesting.

Will be following your grow man! Keep posting! Will start a diary for my autos when I start! Later man!

@biird: Awesome, hello fellow countryman - nice to connect.

Are you feeding your litle yellow plants? Maybe the compost hasn't got enough nutrients in it or/and the pots could be getting too hot (as you mentioned).. Also try not too over water. I allow mine to have full morning sun and shade in the afternoon... for now.. watering w 1% Biobizz rainwater mix in morning and just water in pm to cool down. We having a bit of a heat wave this week. Day temps 36-40 degC. Next week cooler.

I'll use home mix supersoil when I transplant them. I stay on a horse farm - so I compost my own horse and chicken manure and use that in the mix. Other amendments I get from local horti shop.

Seems like you got all the right ingredients for the White Widows grow. Good luck with that. I find cannabisseeds.co.za bit hectic with their international prices. R900 for 5 pips - bit much for me.

There's lots of grow videos on youtube. Check out Mendo Dope for outdoor and I like Gratefull Grower for other technical details.

@Simsalabim,

Dude, you were spot on. I think a combination of the roots getting too hot and the potting soil not being too great wrecked them. They stopped growing and slowly went yellow. Stunted completely. They were like 10cm after 2 months so I've chucked them out. I've started 3 new bag seeds in just coco and perlite from Plantland and they are FLYING. I've made sure the roots stay cool at all times but they get 8 hours of direct sunlight from the start. They are loving it. Thank you so much for the advice man.
