Yeah, the stretching is almost always related to them trying to reach light, unless you mess with growth regulators or something.
That's why some of my plants grew so tall, and my new seedlings are very tall already (lots of cloud cover and some rain in the past 2 weeks).
Experimenting is fine, just be kind to the plants. Unnecessary stress isn't something I'd advocate.
