Day 8: Nothing New Notes: New lights were supposed to be here today (Monday) according to tracking, but of course, were not. So, we still got blurples for at least the next day. Both plants seem to be growing, slowly but surely! Temp and humidity are relatively under control. Based on the size of the plants, I'm thinking I might transplant into their final homes (5 gal Smart Pots) by the end of the week! Refilling the humidifier twice a day is kind of a pain. Was looking into a possible DIY solution to feed the tank from a large reservoir, so that might be coming in the future. Plants look good, soil looks kinda dry-ish, so I will be watering tomorrow. Day 9: Watering Notes: RIP my dreams of getting a new lights. Shipment is officially delayed with no ETA. Also, watered plants as they looked a little parched, and the soil was super dry. Day 10: Nothing new Notes: Lights have signature confirmation and I wasn't home ๐Ÿ˜ข Going to pick them up at the PO tomorrow and setting the damn thing up ASAP. I also mounted my exhaust fan to one of the 2x4s framing the room because it felt like CFM was lower than usual which I attribute to putting the exhaust fan all the way on the floor which added a couple bends to the ducting and lengthened it by a few feet. After mounting it (close to the exhaust port in the tent), it seemed to pick up a bit. Plants look ok. Growing very slowly. Soil still looks damp so we're good on watering! GSC definitely looks ready to transplant soon, possibly in the next day or two. NL is close behind it. Day 11: Watering Notes: I was waiting at the post office in the morning for them to open. I got home and hung the light while removing the old one. When I turned them on, HOLY SHIT ARE THEY BRIGHT. Staring at them is almost as bad as staring at the Sun -neither of which I recommend doing-. I set it up right before lights out so I didn't get to test too much. When I got home -after they have been running for 2 hours-, first thing I noticed was the temperature increase. Thermometer said it was 79f. Granted, this is running at full strength (I didn't get to adjust before I left for work). I adjusted it down to roughly 50% as most of this light is being wasted on these poor seedlings anyway. I also pointed the fan at the heat sink. We'll see how the combination of these two things affect the temperature. The GSC looks ready for transplant, with NL close behind it. I could probably transplant the GSC tonight, but I'd rather transplant both at the same time. I might transplant them Friday night after I get home, or Sunday. With that being said, I'm going to hold off on watering them until I put them in their new 5gal Smart Pots. edit: I actually did end up giving them a tiny bit of water. Day 12: Nothing new Notes: Will be transplanting on Sunday (Day 14). Plants are growing pretty steadily now. Both just about have their first full set of leaves! New lights are fucking amazing. I decided to return my filter / fan to upgrade to a better quality setup. I got a Vortex 6in S series for better longevity and also to quiet the grow area. Replaced the filter I got with a 6x16 Phresh carbon filter. Once they're both here, gonna set them up, and return the others. Day 13: Nothing new Notes: GSC is getting so big. Already up to two nodes. Same goes for the NL, but it's more Indica looking in that it's "bushy" and flat. Pretty much a sign of how the two will compare in size later on in their lives. Also, my pH pen sucks, and I needed a TDS pen, so I am going to return the shit one I got and get a BlueLab growers toolkit, which is just a pH pen and a TDS pen. Might seem like I'm going overboard, but I am trying to future-proof my setup for as long as possible. I like to get years if not decades of use out of things I purchase. The higher up-front costs are worth it to me to have a quality product that lasts. Day 14: Transplant Notes: Today is the big move. Bought some shelving / plastic containers at the hardware store for a easy to clean up drainage system. Also bought a big bag of perlite to mix and some random other tools. I mixed both 5gal Smart Pots with a 2:1 Fox Farms Ocean Forest / Perlite mix to help with drainage and aeration. I may have messed up a little and not filled the pot that will be housing the NL, but it's roughly about 3/4 full, and I may have also buried her a little bit deeper than I should have. Other than that, it was a pretty event-free move. Everything is looking good so far. Now that they're in their new homes, the countdown begins, 3 weeks, until I can start feeding them nutrients.

Anyone ever try using the last week of vegetative growth's feeding schedule during the first week of flowering? Decided to try it out since the plants will be growing more vegetation than focusing on flowering during the first week after flipping. At least that's what I assume.

Actually, if you go by almost any manufacturer - they say that you should be using nutrients that are primarily for veg into first week or two of flower. It's recommended as plants need time to adjust to the light cycle and actually start flowering. Until that happens they stretch, some very much so and for that they need the nutrients for veg. Most of times it's recommended to slowly decrease them from 100% to 0%

I see some amber on there, but I can't tell exactly how much. I'd like to chop around 20% amber at most. Is my estimate of next tuesday a good time to chop?

The trichs will continue to ripen after you harvest the buds so if your looking for 20% at harvest you got a few more days. But if your looking for 20% at smoke then Iโ€™d harvest them now and you should end up around where you want to be. I see about 10% now

Usually when the pistils curl back and turn reddish brown, then it's time to harvest, but that can also be deceiving, sometimes they do that for environmental conditions. You'll have to check the thricomes daily, because they can get to the point you want any day now.

Hi there! Having amber trichomes means that you already missed the perfect window, your buds will get slightly less THC but more CBN, resulting in a relaxing / couchlocking smoke. If you're looking for a recreative high, you should have cut her when the first amber trichomes appeared. If you want something more 'stone' than 'high', to fight anxiety or insomnia for example, you can wait until you have 20-30% of amber trichomes. I'll be around, good luck with your havest!

@grow_time99, technically a ScrOG is use when you have/want just a few plants to grow. During Veg you keep the mains tops under the net sending them to the sides, as the same time these mains tops will grow shoots from each internode, this is where you fill up the trellis. When most of the squares are full of tops, you still let them grow 2 nodes minimum, this is where you get a bud in every hole while keeping canopy level under control... and finally when everything is ready and full you switch to 12/12 .
grow_time99
grow_time99
@JUNGLE_B4RNS, Yeah, a lot of the setup in there is definitely not being utilized. My reasoning for having everything crammed in there was to make sure it all fit! lol. I will be taking it out shortly and modifying it a bit to free up some space.

May I suggest you to plug off all the big inner fan leaves from these 4 tops who passed the trellis , it makes 4 leaves in total, to let the light in your NL plant . The plant will start to send the smaller shoots to the canopy feeling sheโ€™s got a chance to put these tops on the canopy, you can lollipop the smaller shoots to make them grow even faster.

You cardon filter is full of water bro... Look on the notice or label it should say max recommended RH (between 70 to 80 normally). It useless at this stage... You should add your filter in week 4-5 of flowering where you maintain low RH (around 40%) and when your plants gets stinky. RH increase during night cycle by the way ๐Ÿ˜‰

@JUNGLE_B4RNS, Well, my tent is in my basement. Prior to me setting everything up, I cleaned out the entire area, framed and walled the section of the basement off, swept, vacuumed, and bleached the walls and floor. I thought I was pretty thorough, but I guess that fan sucked all the dust up. It's gotta be from drywall dust, and various other dust and basement grossness throughout the years.
JUNGLE_B4RNS
JUNGLE_B4RNS
@grow_time99,where was that white dust coming from ?
grow_time99
grow_time99
@JUNGLE_B4RNS, Thanks for the advice. I literally just updated my comments and then read yours! Plan is to dump the filter till flowering when I will then get rid of the humidifier as the ambient rH is around 30% anyway.

taping these type of wounds helps a lot, some plants i end up taping AND making a tie support i use silica to try to reduce the number of breakages as well, it helps
Jaindoh
Jaindoh
@grow_time99, i was less concerned with it healing better because it's taped and more that it might prevent the split from deepening and shocking the plant really badly -- which has happened to me.
grow_time99
grow_time99
@Jaindoh, I tried taping it, but due to the low clearance on the canopy, it's impossible to get a roll or even a strip of duct tape in there, and I am fairly certain it wouldn't be enough pressure to keep the breakage pushed together. I just started using silica too. Not sure how long it takes to notice a difference, but will definitely be using it going forward. Sooo...I think I'm just going to leave it the way it is, and let it heal on its own. I'm curious as to what will happen. I want a good yield, but I am very open to experimenting on these plants since it's my first grow. I want to make mistakes and learn from them.

@grow_time99, playing Mother Nature is a full time job ๐Ÿ˜Š And the cycle will reverse in week 3 or 4 of flowering, youโ€™re gonna pull out water from the dehumidifier ๐Ÿ˜…
grow_time99
grow_time99
@JUNGLE_B4RNS, That's what the thing I bought does. Plug in whatever you want to it -usually a humidifier/dehumidifier- set the range, and it will turn on once the rH low threshhold is reached, and turn off once the high rH is reached. Saves me time refilling the stupid humidifier, power, water, and keeps the plants in the ideal VPD range for their timeline. Also will be great for drying. I'm not sure why I didn't buy this thing sooner, but I'm glad I did.
