I would like to get some defoliation tips if possible. just before blooming, option-1: should I leave only the top, and crop all the lower bud sites? option-2: do not crop the lower bud sites, just try to make them get light till end of bloom? and why? many thanks.

You seem to be confusing two things. Defoliating is to remove leaves to, supposedly, improving yield. The technique have its adepts and detractors. What you are talking about is lollipoping, where you remove the lower bud sites, so the plant can focus on the top buds. What you need to keep in mind is that yield is dependent on the amount of light, if you remove the lower bud sites, you will have less, but bigger buds, but roughly the same yield of a plant that did not get the same treatment, but instead has a multitude of smaller buds. Personally I prefer to remove those lower buds, it makes harvesting and manicuring a lot faster and easier.

Hey @panic_attack! The answer is, it depends on what training method will you use with them. option.-1: If you are planning to do a SCROG I would definitely recommend doing defoliation (type: lollipoping). Leave only the top after doing fimming/topping after the plant gets 5-6 internodes. If you do fimming, you can do it on the 4th internode. If you are planning to top them, wait till they get 5-6 internodes and then make the topping on the 3rd one. This will also prevent mold since will improve the air circulation on the lower part of the screen. You can use this technique also without SCROG if your intention is to promote bigger buds. option-2: You can do LST. You just need some wires and patience. With this technique you can grow your plant to have the maximum possible of the light. So you should keep the plant almost without defoliation. There is no right or wrong answer for this, just choices. You can go this time with one of the options and next time try the other one to see wich one matches your preferences & skills. Have fun!

If you would like you can follow my grow. I just did a major defoliation yesterday. There are some good resources on YouTube. I wacked the hell out of them. They are supposed to sprng back. We can both watch and see. I did this on the second week of flowering. Actually I did this between the first and second week of flowering. I kept the undercarriage clear A week or so after I put the screen down.

Defoliation is still a controversial topic, some growers swear it hurts the plant so you should never do it. While I'm my opinion it does help increase your yield, as you can find many proof in the GD community that it does increases yields a lot! In the nature where there is a very divers delivery of nutrients in the ground, makes the plant store it in fan leaves. This is off course not the case in a controlled environment. You are giving constant nutrients so there is not so much need for (especially) the big fan leaves. It does bring stress if you cut a big percentage of leaves. Try (especially the first time) not to cut more than 20% and NO bud sites or only some at the bottom. The best timings are just before flower, and about 3 weeks in the flower. Doing defoliation only 1 or 2 times prevent to much stress as well.🌅🌅🌅 Good luck with your grow my fellow grower mate👊🏼
