November 22, 2023 Day 78 This week will focus on bud building and keeping up with watering. Both ladies have been top watered today with runoff. The reservoirs will need cleaning this week. I'll just wait for them to empty out. Strawberry Gorilla: This plant looks great. Her stacks are fat and dense. She's healthy and happy. Nothing else to report today. Gorilla Cookies: She's definitely recovered and building those colas up nice and plump. Happily she is covered in buds just like the Gorilla Cookies in the main tent. Shes about 3 to 4 days behind from what I can tell. It's probably due to the stress she was under. Maybe a day or two behind from flower as well. Anyway, she won't need anymore defoliation. Hopefully the fade starts in a week or so. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.0° RH: 56.8% VPD: 1.26 kPa (Rainy day. A bit humid out) November 23, 2023 I found no stress from the watering yesterday. Both plants seemed to have taken it perfectly. I really can't ask for a better grow considering the size of the grow space and containers. Strawberry Gorilla: This plant is the picture of perfect. Her structure is absolutely beautiful, canopy is level and her buds are rock hard. I can't wait to find out the dry weight. It's a very promising 3 oz from previous grows of this size. I added a bit due to the density. Nothing but good things for this plant. Gorilla Cookies: She's looking much better now. The only thing that has me concerned is her bud structure. They are long and wispy. However, I don't think they have gotten to the bulking stage yet. So it's just a waiting game. She had buds everywhere and long colas. They will be big and fat in the end, I'm sure of it. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.1° RH: 57.4% VPD: 1.24 kPa November 24, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: She needs nothing at all. Buds are getting fatter, pistils are turning orange and she is an overall healthy and happy plant. I expect to harvest her in about 2 weeks. Maybe a little earlier, but I'm looking at 2 weeks with flush another week of nutes and then a week of flushing should be on point. Gorilla Cookies: She looks good. All better from her previous stresses. She's packing on weight now and I expect her to finish up in roughly 3 weeks. Maybe 2. She emptied out her reservoir overnight and got a new full refill. I really need to keep on top of this particular plant with watering. She is definitely a thirsty girl. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.1° RH: 49.3% VPD: 1.47 kPa November 25, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: This plant is starting to enter the fade stage. Especially since I removed the nitrogen. If she starts to shed too quickly, I may add the Micro Base back in. It has some nitrogen in it and should help with the Bloom Base. I'm not adding grow back. I also may add a dose of cal/mag for the next top watering. Speaking of watering. I found some weird little bug larvae swimming around the reservoir surface. I emptied the reservoir and clean the crap out of it. I also sprayed some of the safe pesticide on the container. I also had to dump another but of top watering to her. Not much, maybe a liter. But the reservoir was not working. I fixed it all and readjusted the wick and refilled the reservoir with new nutrients. It should activate in no time. Gorilla Cookies: This plant is shedding leaves a bit now. Finally. It means I got rid of the nitrogen. She is also drinking pretty quickly. I had to refill the reservoir today. I will probably have to refill again in a day or 2. I'm very happy with my work at fixing the nitrogen issue and getting her back on track. Now to just let her do her thing. I also noticed her main top seems to be foxtailing. I'm not surprised. That top is close to the light. It might not. Just looks like it may be foxtails. I will have to see. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.1° RH: 46.9% VPD: 1.58 kPa November 26, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Nothing to do today. No watering needed at the moment. I may too the reservoir off later today. It just depends on what the reservoir looks like in a few hours. Anyway, she is super frosty and starting to get more orange pistils. Another week of Overdrive I think. Then a week of flushing. Gorilla Cookies: Not much going on with her today. She got a reservoir refill and that's about it. I am noticing that the majority of the lower buds on this plant are completely wispy and popcorn. The tops are the only things that look half decent, but they don't seem to be swelling anymore and that can't be good. She also has these tiny leaves to match the tiny lower buds. I feel like I ruined this plant. Maybe I did. But I'm still going to keep her as healthy as possible. I wonder though, is she really healthy or can I just not tell? I'll just keep an eye on her progress as I do everyday. Lol Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.1° RH: 51.8% VPD: 1.36 kPa November 27, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: she just emptied her reservoir today. So I'm going to let the container dry out for a day and at the start of the coming week I will start flushing. So 2 days from today. She's definitely ready for the flush. A nice amount of cloudy trichomes and a couple amber here and there. Perfect timing... I think. Gorilla Cookies: So I have some concerns with the bud production of this plant. Very larfy and I'm assuming it was from the stress from the nitrogen toxicity. It must have stopped her bud production. Hopefully it just delays the flowering and she will catch up with some fat buds. I doubt it though. If she comes out air and larfy with a lot of popcorn buds, I'm going to see if I can find a press to borrow and make some concentrate. She will continue with the Overdrive coming up and will stop the Big Bud. She should have about a week left of this stage and then the ripening stage will start. I'm guessing it will be a week or 2 of ripening. So about 3 weeks as I was thinking. Anyway, as she topped out at all round 36", I can't really complain. We may still get some pretty decent colas out of her yet. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.9° RH: 52.6% VPD: 1.40 kPa November 28, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: She has emptied her reservoir and got a bit light. I was supposed to start the flushing period tomorrow, but today is fine. She got nearly a gallon of water flushed through and the reservoir dumped out. I'm using flawless finish, so I don't need to completely flush and I'll let the nutrient do the job. But the first flush was important in my book. Now she should drink the water in the container but also the fresh Flawless Finish in the reservoir. I'll just have to keep an eye on the reservoir now. She shouldn't need another top watering at all. Just the reservoir from now on. Maybe. She might need another massive flush at the end of the week. Just a couple of days before harvest. Gorilla Cookies: This one emptied her reservoir today as well. She isn't light though, so I did a small top feed to runoff and then dumped the rest in the empty reservoir. I'll refill the reservoir tomorrow. She looks alright. Lots and lots of bud sites, but super small buds. She should start picking up the pace and packing weight on any day now. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.3° RH: 47.1% VPD: 1.55 kPa

Grow Questions

Is this FIMed correctly? It's my first time topping or FIMing. I chose to FIM as I've read it can be less stressful on plants. So I'm wondering if I did it correctly. Just after the 4th node. The little pieces sticking out aren't part of the top. Thanks much.

You'll always find people telling you to top or not to top automatic plants. I've topped all my automatic plants and always lst them with great result. If you check out my purple lemonade from fast buds, I've topped and let it and it's flicking huge! Doubled in size compared to all the others. Just do it if you feel like playing around, especially in hydro where the recovery time is minimal.

What LST method should I use with my FIMed Strawberry Gorilla Auto? Should I try to Tie Down? Do I wait for the top shoots to start showing? Tie just the side branches down? Bend the whole plant? Wait and do nothing? Please, all opinions matter. Thanks!

same as any other LST... before it turns woody/rigid to the point it snapps if oyu try to bend it.. that's too late. apical dominance is what you are manipulating. highest growth node takes the most resousrces. permanently or temporarily bending somethign over to even out canopy is an ongoing maintenance process. what space do you need to fill? what is is responsible for in your tent? etc.. shape it as needed. a larger plant you want to keep things bent down and spreading out until it is wide enough to support the size you want - this saves vertical space too. if it's a smaller plant you may just need to spread out branches as they grow vertically a few inches from each other or more... don't have to be as extreme with the bending in that case, but sitll need something to hold it in place - garden wire or scrog etc. if you understand teh cause and effect of apical dominance, you can shape the plant any way you need to. the only wrong way is one that doesnt fit your needs.

Great looking grow so far my brother! We have our little Strawberry Gorilla going now as well....still in week one, but I am watching and learning from your FIM'ing experiences. Keep up the great work!

@Prilyfe13, Guessing on the dried weight, but we will know this week. Jarring it up in the next day or two. It was a massive plant in such a short growing period. It dwarfed what we did with our Orion F1 (which yielded 1.7 oz dried).

@SirVerdePollex, 3-4 oz is pretty good! Congrats on that and at 78 days?! I haven't had a harvest under 90 days. I'm hoping this will be the grow. Under 90 days here I come!

@Prilyfe13, Yeah...Mimosa was a massive plant. Still drying, but probably 3-4 oz dried off one plant in just 78 days from seed to harvest. Impressive!

Nice looking grow! I am planning to FIM or top our next grow (Strawberry Gorilla) so I am certainly following and watching your grow. I have a question for you though. I am curious, why do you think you'll be done in seven weeks? Based on the timing of the plant's vegetative progress (from your photos) and my experience with autos, it will be quite a bit longer than seven weeks. Unless you are talking seven weeks of flowering. Time will tell, but from the looks of it it you have long, beautiful journey as she packs on bids. Good luck!

@Prilyfe13, No worries...glad it's going well and I will certainly be watching. We have a week to ten days left on our Mimosa auto grow. She is huge. Good luck to you with the two gorillas!!

@SirVerdePollex, Thanks for the follow and I'm glad you are learning from my humble diary. I was thinking 7 weeks flower. I think I phrased that wrong. Whoops. I will say the FIM was was a success and the training was successful, but I think I should have waited a few more days to start. Oh well. It's bushy and healthy. That's what matters.

Looks great my good man...both of these ladies! Nice work! We missed the opportunity to try FIM'ing our little gorilla (I was missing in action and came back too late to attempt it). Will have to have a go at it NEXT TIME. Looking forward to seeing what you end up with here...once again, nice work!

The supplemental lighting helped a lot. No more falling leaves at the moment. I should be able to squeeze a few more days out of her for better lower buds.
