Introduction - Week 08|01 Summary - Ensign's log, stardate 9322.89, This was a seedling week for #1 and #2 and was also a reset week for #2. At least that was the plan.. On the day #2 was going to be swapped out, she sprouted from the growbag! Still not sure if she’ll fully make it, and may still swap her out, but still impressive. So surprisingly, this was a good grow week! Planted the new seed (#4) into a solo cup. By the end of the week she was already fully sprouted! Planning on growing this one out in the solo cup for now before transplanting to a larger container (if she survives). The surprise sprouting of #2 definitely turned the spirit of this grow around! Just hoping that I don’t frack up the watering. Again. [START OF WEEK 08|01] ========================================================== Garlic Budder #1 - WEEK 08|01 - Seedling Garlic Budder #2 - WEEK 08|01 - Seedling Garlic Budder #3 - WEEK 01 - Seedling Garlic Budder #4 - WEEK 00 - Germination 04/22/24 → 04/28/24 This Week's Estimated Goals ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DLI: ~19 mol/m²/d PPFD: ~300 μmol/m²/s VPD: ~1.0 kPa This Week's Meter Readings & Averages [Lights On: 16:00 - 10:00] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DLI: 19.12 mol/m²/d PPFD: 295 μmol/m²/s VPD: 0.81 kPa Soil %: [34.3, 27.4, 32.1, 31.9] ========================================================== Day 01 - Monday - 04/22/24 - Total Days: 056 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages [~23:00] - Temps: 79.8°F [26.6°C] - Humidity: 76.4% - VPD: 0.81 kPa - Soil %: [35, 28, 33, 32] ----------------------------------- - [07:21]: Another early morning germination day! --- Popping another bean of ‘Garlic Budder’ by ‘Humboldt Seed Company!’ --- This cultivar is a cross of ‘GMO (Garlic, Mushrooms, Onions)’ and ‘Fortune Cookies’ with further self-backcrossing for stability. --- As far as growth structure, these genetics are 70% indica dominant. --- Have 6 seeds left (out of 11). --- Gonna try to germinate three more. --- As far as my personal seed germination count, this will be attempts #67. --- Going with the 'Cotton Pad' method again. --- In another room (my bathroom), --- Placed 3 fresh cotton pads on top of some clean plastic wrap. --- Using a spray bottle, Misted the top of each pad with 2 sprays of straight distilled water. --- Selected a random seed of ‘Garlic Budder’ (‘Humboldt Seed Company’). - [07:24]: Placed the seed onto a freshly wet pad. --- Gently wiped the seed with its pad. - [07:25]: Carefully placed the seed onto a fresh cotton pad. Discarded the used pad. --- Then covered the top of the seed with the remaining wet cotton pad. --- Misted the top of the stack of pads with 4 more sprays of distilled water. - [07:26]: Placed the cotton pad stack into a fresh Ziploc bag (1quart bag). --- Misted the inside of each bag with 2 sprays of distilled water. --- Folded the bag in half. --- Did not fully seal the bags (left a corner open). - [07:32]: Placed the bag onto the heating mat. --- Covered the bag with a black opaque plastic container. --- Then covered the container with a towel and a foam cover. --- Covered the foam with another towel. - [07:35]: The heating mat's thermostat is set to a warm 85°F --- The mat was pre-heated (the night before) and was at 83.8°F --- Plan to check for tap roots tomorrow evening! - [21:55]: Quick evening check. --- Well both seedlings are looking less droopy, but still not as heathy as the last round. --- Really don’t want to over-water. - [21:57]: Using a spray bottle, --- Misted both #1 and #3's top growth and straw mulch with distilled water (~5 sprays each). - [20:05]: Checked the humidifier. --- Tank was just above half full. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~1.5gal). Day 02 - Tuesday - 04/23/24 - Total Days: 057 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages [~23:00] - Temps: 79.6°F [26.4°C] - Humidity: 76.1% - VPD: 0.81 kPa - Soil %: [35, 28, 33, 32] ----------------------------------- - [16:15]: Evening check. --- Nice! Both seedlings are looking pretty good now! - [16:16]: Wait what! --- Is that a sprout!?! --- #2’s grow bag has a sprout! --- What the frack? --- A week after being planted, #2 sprouted. --- Her cotyledon leaves still seemed curled over, but hopefully that will open up later. --- Well this is truly an unexpected surprise! --- So I guess for these genetics (and the cotton pad method), have had 100% germination success! - [16:18]: Using a spray bottle, --- Misted both #2’s top growth and straw mulch with distilled water (~10 sprays). --- Also misted the humidity dome (~3 sprays). --- Well, --- Was originally planning on planting into #2’s grow bag today. --- But now that there’s already seedling in it, going to have to change things up a bit. This grow just got a bit bigger! --- [*smokes a bowl] --- Decided plant the new seed into a solo cup of some BuildASoil 3.0 Potting soil (~4cups). --- Not sure what to do when she gets bigger, but will have to do for now. --- Time to make the wetting solution! - [17:42]: Filled a measuring cup with 2 cups of distilled water. ------ Added 1/64tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract [60] ------ Added 1/32tsp of Horticultural Aloe ------ Added 1/16tsp of Mycrobe Complete --- Mixed the solution and set it aside for later. - [17:49]: Filled a plastic container with an overly full solo cup of BuildASoil 3.0 Potting soil. --- Added 1/2 cup of the wetting solution. --- Oops, too wet, ------ Added 1/2 solo cup (~2 cups) of dry BuildASoil 3.0 Potting soil. --- Mixed the soil and gave it a good squeeze. --- The soil clumped up nicely but no water leakage. --- Time to fill the solo cup! - [18:00]: Using a pair of scissors, --- Cut the corners off a solo cup to make drain holes. - [18:07]: Filled the solo cup with the pre-wet soil. --- Made a shallow indentation into the center. - [18:08]: Inoculated the solo cup with Beauveria Bassiana. ------ Sprinkled 1/16tsp of Beauveria Bassiana Plus Powder into the center of the indentation. - [18:11]: Okay! Time to check on the seed! --- It's been over a day since the seed was placed on the cotton pad. --- Carefully removed the cotton pad stack from the bag. --- Then flipped over the top pad. --- Nice! She popped! --- As far as these genetics, not the longest tap roots, but wow! --- She looks beautiful to me! - [18:11]: Time to plant the sprouted seed! --- Using a clean dab tool, I scooped the seed off of the pad and placed her on top of the inoculated area with the tap root sideways. --- Sprinkled and covered the seed with a pinch of fresh BuildASoil 3.0 Potting soil (later stored the remaining soil in a used soil bag). --- Misted the top with 15 sprays of the wetting solution. - [18:24]: Then covered the exposed soil with BuildASoil Organic Barley Straw. --- Misted the top of the solo cup with more of the solution (~10 sprays). --- Placed the solo cup onto the tent’s floor (on top of a plastic container and drip tray). - [18:27]: Covered #4 with a humidity dome. --- Misted #4’s humidity dome with a bit of distilled water (3 sprays). --- Vents are fully closed. --- #4 has been planted! - [18:30]: As for the remaining 1.5 cups of wetting solution, ------ Added 1/2 cup of distilled water. --- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a pump sprayer (2 cups). --- Prior to watering, covered all the growbags with humidity domes. --- Misted the solution onto the straw mulch of both EarthBoxes (~2/3 cup each). --- Sprayed around each grow bag. --- Also misted the straw mulch for the Grassroots fabric pot. --- Then removed the humidity domes for #1 and #3. - [18:40]: Using a spray bottle, --- Slightly misted the top growth for #1 and #3 (~3 sprays). - [18:46]: Going to use a dry cup of soil to help determine when to water the solo cup. --- Placed the solo cup of soil onto the floor of the tent in the opposite corner from #4 (near the heater). - [19:07]: Checked the humidifier. --- Tank was still pretty full. --- Going to wait until tomorrow. Day 03 - Wednesday - 04/24/24 - Total Days: 058 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages [~23:00] - Temps: 79.3°F [26.3°C] - Humidity: 75.5% - VPD: 0.83 kPa - Soil %: [34, 28, 33, 32] ----------------------------------- - [21:45]: Evening check. --- Garden is looking green again! --- Both #1 and #3 have greened up and new growth is starting to ramp up! --- Still haven’t really watered anything. Just been misting the top growth and straw mulch. --- Don’t frack this up Ensign! - [21:48]: Using a spray bottle, --- Misted the top growth and straw mulch of all seedlings with distilled water (~3 sprays each). - [21:53]: Checked on #4. --- Nice! Can see start of a sprout! Stoked! --- By tomorrow, she’ll be fully sprouted! --- Misted the top straw mulch (1 spray). --- Also misted the humidity dome (~3 sprays). --- Slightly cracked the vent open. --- Pretty nervous growing in a solo cup. --- I know it’s possible and have seem plenty of great looking plants in a solo cup. --- Unfortunately in the past, never had success, but going to give it another go! - [21:57]: Checked the humidifier. --- Woah! Tank was pretty empty! --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~3.5gal). --- Although the tank was not completely empty, probably will go back to daily refills. Day 04 - Thursday - 04/25/24 - Total Days: 059 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages [~23:00] - Temps: 79.4°F [26.3°C] - Humidity: 76.0% - VPD: 0.81 kPa - Soil %: [34, 27, 32, 32] ----------------------------------- - [16:22]: Evening check. --- Both #1 and #3 are growing along nicely! --- Not too sure about #2. Her first set of leaves haven’t really started growing yet. --- #4 is looking nice and healthy! --- Removed #4’s humidity dome and raised her up a bit closer to the light. - [16:52]: Took general PPFD readings. --- #1 and #2 around 291 μmol/m²/s which gives a DLI of 18.86 mol/m²/d --- #3 was around 295 μmol/m²/s which gives a DLI of 19.12 mol/m²/d --- #4 was around 246 μmol/m²/s which gives a DLI of 15.94 mol/m²/d - [17:02]: Took the weekly height and light distance measurements. --- #1 was about 2" tall. --- #2 was about 1.25" tall. --- #3 was about 2.5" tall. --- #4 was about 1.25" tall. --- #1 was about 28.25" away from the grow light. --- #2 was about 29" away from the grow light. --- #3 was about 27.75" away from the grow light. --- #4 was about 27.5" away from the grow light. --- Okay, going to give a tiny foliar spray of coconut and aloe water. --- This should help to promote more root growth. I hope. --- Please don’t frack this up Ensign! - [17:16]: Filled a measuring cup with 1/2 cup of distilled water. ------ Added a pinch of Quillaja Saponaria Extract [60] ------ Added 1/64tsp of Horticultural Coconut ------ Added 1/64tsp of Horticultural Aloe --- Mixed and poured the solution straight into a spray bottle. --- Gently misted the top growth of all seedlings (~2-5 sprays each). --- Misted the rest of the solution onto the surrounding straw mulch. - [17:27]: Checked the humidifier. --- Tank was over half full. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~2gal). --- After the first round, pretty paranoid about over-and-under-watering. --- Please don’t die on me ladies! Day 05 - Friday - 04/26/24 - Total Days: 060 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages [~23:00] - Temps: 79.6°F [26.4°C] - Humidity: 76.2% - VPD: 0.81 kPa - Soil %: [34, 27, 32, 32] ----------------------------------- - [11:07]: Evening check. --- Growth is looking good! --- #1 is looking happy and green! --- #3 is a bit droopy, but looking green. --- #2 is showing signs of growth, but not sure yet if she’s going to make it. - [23:11]: Using a spray bottle, --- Misted the top growth and straw mulch of all seedlings with distilled water (~2-5 sprays each). - [23:15]: Checked the humidifier. --- Tank was about half full. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~2gal). Day 06 - Saturday - 04/27/24 - Total Days: 061 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages [~23:00] - Temps: 79.7°F [26.5°C] - Humidity: 76.4% - VPD: 0.81 kPa - Soil %: [34, 27, 31, 32] ----------------------------------- - [20:17]: Evening check. --- Both #1 and #3 are looking healthy although #3 still seems a bit droopy. --- #2 is still growing but has some weird looking growth. --- #4 is looking sort of lime, but still growing along. - [20:23]: Using a spray bottle, --- Misted the top growth and straw mulch of all seedlings with distilled water (~2-5 sprays each). - [20:27]: Checked the humidifier. --- Tank was still pretty full. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~1gal). - [22:03]: Another grow-board wipe! --- Still completely paranoid about watering anything. --- Looking back over the past week or so (since the reset), --- The aloe and coconut foliar seemed to help. --- As the soil continues to dry out, will continue with the mini coco aloe foliar feedings. --- #2 is looking gnarly, but hoping that she’ll grow out it. If she doesn’t make it, can always swap her out with #4 which is looking great in the solo cup (so far). Day 07 - Sunday - 04/28/24 - Total Days: 062 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages [~23:00] - Temps: 79.8°F [26.6°C] - Humidity: 76.5% - VPD: 0.80 kPa - Soil %: [34, 27, 31, 31] ----------------------------------- - [20:59]: Evening check. --- Nice! Both #1 and #3 seem to be doing quite well! --- Although #1 seems to have some sort of gnarly growth. Some of her leaves look almost eaten by bugs. Pretty sure it’s not, but looks unusual. --- #2 is starting to surprise me with more growth! Her next set of leaves are starting to grow in and they’re looking healthier. I think she’s going to make it! --- #4 is looking pretty good! - [21:02]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data: --- 33% - [CH01 EB1 - Garlic Budder #1] --- 27% - [CH02 EB1 - Secondary] --- 31% - [CH03 EB2 - Garlic Budder #2] --- 31% - [CH04 GFP - Garlic Budder #3] --- Soil moisture levels still seem okay, - [21:05]: Filled measuring cup with 1/2 cup of distilled water. - [21:13]: Checked the humidifier. --- Tank was just above half full. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~2gal). --- Well a surprisingly easy grow week. For the most part, haven’t watered any of these girls yet. --- Never successfully vegged in a solo cup so starting to get a bit concerned about #4. The soil was pre-wet 4 days ago and still not entirely sure when and how much to water. [END OF WEEK 08|01]

@gottagrowsometime, Thanks growmie! Yea, sometimes I can get a bit too detailed, but this is all just for fun! Been using Ac Infinity's Thermoforge T3 heater for just over 2 weeks and have to say that it's the best! Highly recommend! The unit easily heats a 4x4ft grow tent along with my 10x10ft lung room. Keep in mind that it never snows where I live, but it can get pretty cold in the winter (Southern California - US). What's most impressive is that in combination with the Cloudforge T7, my overall weekly VPD averages have been a lot more stable! Also the day to night temp swings have been greatly reduced (less than 10 degrees/percent difference on the weekly temps/RH averages).
