January 3, 2024 Day 120 Strawberry Gorilla: Day 10 Curing Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 3 Drying Number 2 is all alone in the tent now. The supplemental lighting is going full force now. It's showing great improvement from what it was like before. She'll be needing a top watering later on today. Now that all the other plants are all out of the tent, I can see a few colas leaning completely horizontally. Luckily, I have the SCroG net in place, so the colas won't completely fall over. Colas are getting bigger and heavier everyday. I can't wait for her to finish up. Another 3 weeks maybe. I'm not sure if I mentioned 8t before, but I'm seeing a small amount of orange pistils. Perfect timing I think. Week 9 of flower and she is a week from flushing. Well, maybe a week. Maybe a little more. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.6Β° RH: 46.1% VPD: 1.43 kPa January 4, 2024 Strawberry Gorilla: Day 11 Curing Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 4 Drying Now that the Gorilla Cookies from the Overflow Tent has joined her, I'm trying to keep the RH down to around 50% and the temp is already around 63Β°. However, it has been a little wonky since the other plants came in yesterday. Nothing I couldn't fix though. Number 2 is super beastly! Just a beautiful plant so far. I can't wait to see what her fade looks like. No watering today. But she will definitely need it tomorrow morning. I feel like she is drinking even more now. What a great sign! I removed a few dead leaves that were buried super deep in the canopy. Probably from the last week and I just didn't see them. Buds are looking great! Lower buds are fattening up as well. Tops are leaning more. Even one that is in the center of the canopy and is tipping over as well. So pretty. There's also a few more orange pistils as well as signs that she is getting ready to finish up and start her maturing stage. I feel like another week of nutrients should do it. Then flawless finish until I see fading. It should take about 2 weeks to clear all the nutrients out. Maybe less. That's all for today. There won't be much left to do for the rest of this grow, except for removing leaves and watering. I also moved her closer to the center of the tent. What really ended up happening is the front and right side colas were pushed back up and the ones in the back and left side and corner were left to drop back a bit. It kind of opened the canopy in some spots, but covered more in other spots. Kind of a trade off. But the whole plant is nearly centered and those inner walls have opened up a bit. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.0Β° RH: 45.4% VPD: 1.52 kPa January 5, 2024 Strawberry Gorilla: Day 12 Curing Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 5 Drying I flipped around the drying rack today. I'll do it again in two days. Number 2 looks great as always. I found three dead leaves and two (that I could reach) blocking vital buds. I will say that it's really hard to see anything from the top of the plant. It's too tall for me and the tent is too short to lean over it with a stool. It's a little better than the top, because I can get completely under the plant. But the issue from below is the layers and I mean layers of fan leaves. I really should have figured out a way to get rid of a lot of these leaves. But then again, Iay not have gotten such huge colas. Buds are getting really big now. Super dense and heavy. I don't see any new pistils, but I wasn't really expecting them for another week or so. The faster this lady finishes up the better everything will be. Then I can start a new run of 2 strains. I'll most likely make a diary for each strain. She got a full top feed today. One gallon. The reservoir is about 3/4 full, so it's working, but not well. I think it may be time to swap reservoirs and wicks. I've also learned that the plant is now too heavy to really gauge the soil moisture by lifting it. I could feel it was light, but the top of the plant is so heavy, it felt like a weight being pressed down onto the pot. Definitely a good thing, and I'm super happy I have a soil moisture monitor. Otherwise I'd be guessing the whole time. So far so good. I've also noticed that once the moisture level gets down to 16% it takes several hours to drop to 15% verses the few hours it takes from 48% down to 26%. It's interesting. I'm guessing this is where the wick system gets used the most. It's the only source of water at the time. I could probably have done a gallon and a half, but unnecessary. Other than that, the humidity has slammed down now that it's freezing outside. I may turn my humidifier on low. Not that I mind the low humidity, but I don't think it needs to be that low until the last week or so. I'd like to see around 43% now. And then drop it in a week down to 40% and then 35% the week after and until harvest. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.3Β° RH: 39.3% VPD: 1.71 kPa I feel like the VPD is too high. The RH needs to go up a bit as I said, while the temp is perfectly in range. January 6, 2024 Strawberry Gorilla: Day 13 Curing Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 6 Drying Number 2 is really putting on weight now. More and more colas are starting to lean over. I've had to brace a few already. I wish I could find my other trellis net. She got a full gallon top feed today. Surprisingly I got a bit of a drip for runoff. I normally don't get runoff. Maybe I was a bit early. Oh well, the wick system is still active. It will suck up all that runoff. Speaking of, the reservoir will need to be refilled tomorrow or later this afternoon. So the lower part of the plant still has dying leaves. But they aren't falling off anymore. It's strange. Maybe the light slowed down the inevitable. On a second note. I have an issue with the current trellis. It's buried in buds top to bottom. So when it comes time to harvest, I have no idea how I'm going to get it out of there. Lol. Not a bad problem, but still will lose an issue during harvest. If you're reading this, leave a comment with a suggestion or advice, if you could. I'd love to see what other people have done to solve this problem. (I've never scrogged before. lol) Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.2Β° RH: 40.8% VPD: 1.60 kPa January 7, 2024 Strawberry Gorilla: Day 14 Curing. It's been 2 weeks of curing and the grove bag has been opened. At first, it smells like a light hint of sweet berries and a bit of pungent undertone. Then it ramps up to berries and pungent sweetness. I can't really put my thumb on it. Anyway, the taste is smooth and earthy. The berry and sweetness is still there, but becomes more of an undertone to a more pungent flavor. The exhale really gives off that earthy sweetness. I don't really know how to describe it. Frankly I need to quit smoking cigarettes. Then it'll be a hell of a lot easier to taste and smell the nuances of cannabis. These buds glisten in the light with frosty goodness. The ash is pure white meaning it's full of resin. The buds are also pretty dense, but not rock hard like some strains I've run into, but that is most likely the strain and bud structure itself. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 7 Drying A couple more days. I rotated the rack today and did a snap test. I'd say a good 2 to 3 more days. The smell in the dry tent is super strong. Sharp because of drying, but once it finishes up, I'm expecting some fire! Number 2: Not much going on today. The reservoir got a refill and that's about it. I will note that the top has completely transformed itself. Because the colas are getting so heavy, they are leaning over throughout the whole canopy. In turn the leaning colas cause other colas to lean as well. The front of the tent has nearly all of them sitting at a 45Β° angle. A few are completely horizontal and some are still standing strong. Mostly due to the other colas supporting them. She went through a gallon of water yesterday but she pulled a lot from the reservoir. So she's sitting at 20% moisture content. I won't water her today. Instead I'll let her drink some of the reservoir and water her tomorrow. As for the colas, they are nearly all the same size and shape. They are all nearly the same in density. And they all have orange pistils starting. Everything seems to be perfect with this plant. Best I've ever grown. I'd also like to make a note on the roots. They grew right into the new wicks from when I changed the reservoir out a few weeks ago. This time, I definitely can't pull the wicks out. They are completely locked in by the roots. Luckily, I won't be watering with nutrients for much longer. Maybe a week, and I've been top feeding for most of the time in flower. But at least I know the reservoir is being drained. I'm wondering if I let it go for a few days will the water content drop below 15%. I'm definitely not going to find out. Not with this plant. Anyway, its a good and bad problem to have. The wicks are completely saturated in nutrients and I believe it is making it harder for the roots to drink as much as they want. However, the wicks are soaked on the outside from what I could tell. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.1Β° RH: 43.2% VPD: 1.54 kPa January 8, 2024 Strawberry Gorilla: Complete Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 8 Drying. I pulled a couple test buds and trimmed them up. Came out to 1 gram. Anyway, the bud is not dry yet. Still has that sharp drying smell. I'm going to let these buds dry out some more and smoke them. We shall see how it is anyway. Number 2: She got a full top water today. As I suspected, she didn't drop below 15% all night. Although, I'd assume it was the dark period that helped keep the water in. She didn't seem to touch the reservoir at all. A bit of a concern, but I can't do anything about it now. I didn't see a single dead leaf today. So that's a great sign! Also, I'm not sure if I mentioned it yesterday, but I raised the front supplemental lighting to the side of the canopy verses below it. I can't reach the back of the tent to properly set it up, but the lights are fine where they are anyway. The main buds are getting harder and denser than ever. I'm seeing more orange pistils. A great sign! I'd say by the looks of her, another 2 to 3 weeks. Around 18 days? A note about the colas. They are leaning over a bit more now, but it looks like the SCroG net is doing the job and holding them up a bit better. Wish I had another SCroG I could drape over the canopy. Oh well. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.6Β° RH: 38.9% VPD: 1.73 kPa No clue what happened with the tent last night, but it was up to 78Β° and down to 33% weird. VPD was over 2.00 kPa January 9, 2024 Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Dried, trimmed and Grove Bagged. She yielded a total of 71 grams or 2.53 oz. I didn't weigh the larf and there was a whole lot of it. So it all went into the trim bin for kief collection. That might have been close to an ounce, but I only weigh smokable buds. Honestly, it's a bit too dry and it was only 8 days. My RH must be too low. However, I did the snap test and only a couple smaller branches broke... I think. The larger branches were still bending, but when I trimmed her up, the branches started to snap a bit. It's winter here and super dry. So I'm guessing the extra time in the dry environment while being trimmed dried it out too much? I don't know. I'll adjust for The Beast to 55% and as close to 60Β° as I can get. Number 2: Not much for today. I'll be watering her this afternoon as she is down to 16%. No leaves to pull off today either. She's just drinking and fattening up. I think I'll be dropping the Nutrients down by half starting tomorrow. I'm also ending the wicking system. When it dries out that's it. Then I pull the wicks and the reservoir acts as a drip tray for runoff. She will be in the flushing stage in a week or so and I'd rather not shock her into forcing her to have no nutrients at all. I think a good 2 weeks of flushing should do it. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.2Β° RH: 42.4% VPD: 1.62 kPa

lokos to be a fiar amount of perlite in your soil. overwatering is easy to avoid with simple good habits when watering. water until entire pot is wet. a little runoff ensures this, but not always necessary. wait for top 1" to dry and repeat. how often you fertilize depends on several factors and preferences. the more often you fertilize the less concentrated it sould be, and vice versa for longer periods of time between fertilization. so, if it is ever droopy after these types of irrigation habits, it's the drainagae quality of your substrate that is the cause of any droopiness or water-related issues. 50/50 is a good mix of perlite to soil. stick in that range and you should never see 'overwatering' while stickign to the above standard operating procedure. if you swithc to coco, only need 30% perlite (or similar drainage amendment) if you stick to those ratios fo substrate:drainage amendment, it is impossible to overwater. you might over or under fertilize, but it won't be from too much or too little watering. don't ever tell your self "it's all the same" because it isnt each plant is different gentics and potential different reaction to whatever is in the soil... that soil is not 100% homogenous either. always observe and react... cause and effect... feeling it's all the same is irrelevant and tends to interject personal biases into diagnosing problems. regardless, something specific is happening to the plant you observed looking odd. that's all that matters.. identifying and reacting properly. allow a bit more development before transplant for a rootball that is more robust. when you distrub the rootball that is usually the cause of any transplant shock.. not watering it.. you should always water after a transplant to help settle the substrate around it.. make sure you don't have to fill in any chasms if the form. time your transplants as best you can so it isn't 2 irrigations with very little time between. you don't want it to be as dry as a typical wet-dry cycle, so that the substrate will hold together better with enough moisture in it. deviating 1 time from that normal wet-dry cycle (waiting for top 1" to dry before next), is not the end of the world. but don't make a habit of it. also, in a small seedling tray or starter cup etc, you want to irrigate a bit sooner than 1" deep. in general it's anon issue, because by teh time you have to irrigate a recently planted seed, it's got a tap root all the way to bottom of small starter pots. allowing top to dry reduces risks of pathogens and pests. it keeps a good o2 ratio in soil for roots. it promotes deper roots vs superficial roots that are less effective. this simple method of irrigating provides numerous benefits. remember, you don't pick the volume of water needed... that is a recipe for fucking up substrate equilibrium. feel weight of pot when it is time to irrigate. this can be used as a trigger too. If you water at same weight loss, it requires the same volume of water as before. so, you can dial it in and reduce wasted water.

Autos do have a short life span and I noticed my plants lower leaves did this when I saw nothing else wrong with them. I plucked the leaves and continued watching and checking runoff ppms and ph. I grew in coco so ph wasn't my issue I was worried about ppms. Always follow the 10-20% water runoff rule. And make sure they are not 300ppm or more above your input ppms or your over feeding. Or 200ppms or more "less" then your input ppms. Or your under feeding. Environment plays a role so Google a good vpd chart, I use pulse vpd chart. Make sire your in the correct zone for your current stage of growth! I see nothing wrong but lower leaves dying off due to short life span, although a runoff check will tell you if you're deficient or toxic and then we can go from there! Please consider me as the answer to the question so I have a chance to win grower of the month contest πŸ™ please and thank you 😊

My 2x2 is starting to crowd. This is driving the RH to over 70%. Should I defoliate to help with crowding and RH? Or should I just leave it alone? RH in lung room is 48% Exhaust fan, high or low with a dehumidifier, doesn't work. What should I do? Defoliate? Thanks! Check diary.

Defoliation can certainly help. Less leaves = less transpiration. Are you keeping your soil really wet? If so water less. Lowering the space temperature will slow down the transpiration rate and will decrease humidity. Not sure what you are using for extraction fan, but it might be wise to just run it constantly, or get a bigger fan that can move that humidity out quickly and keep it in check. Keeping the tent open will certainly lower the humidity, but you'll waste light and release all of the environment. So to recap, Defoliate 50% of your leaves, yes Lower environment temperature (decreases transpiration rate) Don't saturate your soil or leave any water laying around (a big full root zone needs saturation, but if your plants go 4 or more days without watering then reduce your water volume) Invest in a bigger extraction fan

I'm using the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE. I don't top feed, so does anyone know if I should let the reservoir dry out? Or, because it's a form of hydroponics, do I make sure to keep water in there all the times? Also, should I keep the nutrients constant? Thanks!

In a bottom-feed watering system like the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE, it's generally beneficial to maintain a consistent moisture level rather than letting the reservoir completely dry out. Here's why: Continuous Moisture: Plants often prefer consistent moisture, and allowing the reservoir to dry out completely may stress the plants. Consistent moisture ensures that plants have access to water and nutrients when needed. Hydroponic-Like System: While it's not a traditional hydroponic system, bottom-feed systems share some characteristics. Maintaining a consistent water level helps provide stability in nutrient availability to the plants. Preventing Stress: Allowing the reservoir to dry out completely can lead to stress for the plants. Inconsistent watering can result in fluctuations in nutrient availability, potentially impacting plant health and growth. Nutrient Consistency: Keeping nutrient levels relatively consistent is advisable. Fluctuations in nutrient concentration can lead to nutrient imbalances, affecting plant development. Regularly monitoring and adjusting nutrient levels based on plant growth stages is a good practice. While maintaining a consistent moisture level is generally beneficial, it's crucial not to overwater. Overwatering can lead to oxygen deprivation in the root zone, potentially causing root issues. Finding the right balance and adjusting based on the specific needs of your plants is key to a successful bottom-feed watering system. Regularly monitoring plant health, nutrient levels, and moisture content will guide your watering practices.

The feeding system your running is probably more efficient on the smaller containers. Add to it the roots have to push to find water then it would be easier in the smaller container. Thus meaning the smaller ones found water first and had a easier time. If I had to guess the bigger ones will catch up, and surpass the smaller ones. Although this is my assumption, I'm not accounting for the phenos. Every strain has multiple phenos. You may plant 10 seeds and have 10 different looking plants. Better breeders get this dialed in, and the phenos are less sporadic. 10 seeds might give you 2 or 3 phenos instead of 10.. Now. With this said I would guess it's the smaller containers allowed the plants to have a steady supply of nutes quicker, if it's not a odd pehno... if so the bigger potted ones should catch up and surpass the little ones. Goodluck. Please consider selecting me as the answer so I can be entered for a chance to win grower of the month contest I would really appreciate your support growmie πŸ˜ƒ πŸ™

Lower 3rd is a general rule of thumb. I find the best practise is to keep your plant profile low through trellis nets and scrogging them (Screen of Green). I don't understand why people waste time and energy growing a plant 4 feet tall just to have to butcher the lower 3rd to half of the plant. Why did you waste the time and nutrients is what i ask myself? Why not trellis your plant and fill the net 3/4 with tops, then flip to 12/12, and tuck the first week, then allow everything to stretch up, then defoliate and watch your yield be epic, with little plant wasted.

In regards to a grow question about bottom feeding, I wanted to explain what I know and what I don't know about the bottom feed wicking system I have specifically with autoflowers. For starters the system works best when the 1 gallon reservoir needs to be refilled every couple of days or less. This is usually at the start of flowering when the roots have reached the bottom of the fabric container. No need to worry about the standing water. It'll be gone before anything has a chance to populate it. As for an autoflowers early life, I believe there is a difference here with photos and autos. Photos are generally in veg longer than autos, which means top feeding is a very short venture with autos. I have found that 14 to 20 days of top watering is sufficient. But not a full watering. Just enough to make sure the young plant gets what it needs. The final top watering before the bottom feed is about 1 gallon to 1.5 gallons. This is in both 3 and 5 gallon fabric containers with living soil and not coco. That could be different. It could also be a bit later or earlier based on what the plant wants. As for the bottom watering system, I prime the containers around week 3 by filling the reservoir with a half gallon of water and letting it soak into the soil. It takes about 20 minutes, but works well in the end. By doing this, the water from the bottom will meet up with the watering from the early top feed and by the time they connect the plant is ready for the wicking system. It's like prep work. As for what to expect during the grow, your roots will grow into the wicks. When this happens, I don't recommend lifting the plant from its base. This is where the fill up comes into play. I like to use a one gallon water jug to fill the reservoir. If I had a spout, I think it would be easier. Nothing pressured. Pour the water slowly to help with spillage. I also mix the nutrients right in the water jug. Makes it easier to fill up with an exact gallon. I haven't had much of an issue with salt build up, but I only use a 1/4 to a half dose. I wondered if I should let it dry out, but no. Instead, I use a lower dose of constant nutrients and keep the reservoir from drying out. Clean it every couple weeks and it should be good. A little trick I thought of in hindsight. Cut your wicks a little bit longer so you can make a loose knot to hold them in place. Make sure they are long enough to touch bottom. If I think of anything else I'll add it too. Any questions, please ask.

So this is what AC Infinity says about their Bottom Feed Wicking System. Please refill the basin whenever the water meter reads empty. It is recommended to clean and refill the basin every two weeks to prevent unwanted buildup and further protect against interlocking roots and wick lines. It's best to keep an eye on the meter for the low water reads.

Como se han estirado en una semana! 😍 Ese entrenamiento tiene buena pinta, yo creo que no va a ser necesario el SCROG

Prilyfe13
@nonick123, I agree totally. The SCROG is just a backup. Training definitely helps with branch strength. But too heavy buds would be good too.
