January 10, 2024 Day 127 This week will focus completely on maintenance... If there is any. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 1 Curing Number 2: None of the leaves are falling off anymore. But I do see some white leaves in the lower part of the plant. But they aren't popping off. I will be snipping them off at some point today. I'm not 100% sure why they are white. I assume it's the location and lack of light for so long. However, I have a feeling it may have been the stress from the sudden addition of the Supplemental lighting. As I said last week, I'll be cutting the nutrients in half. However, she still has about 26% moisture content left, so I won't be watering until tomorrow. That being said, she definitely started drinking from the wick system again. We shall see for how long, but I do wonder why she suddenly didn't drink a gallon last night. I'll just continue to water her at 15% moisture content. As for colas today, the outer ones are getting as dense as the more central ones. There's a few more orange pistils. One thing I will note is the aroma. I may be nose blind, but I'm not getting much in smell. The only time it's strong is when the tent is opened. But definitely not strong afterward. Maybe the trichomes are going to pop toward the end of the grow? We shall see. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.9Β° RH: 44.7% VPD: 1.54 kPa January 11, 2024 Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 2 Curing Number 2: Today was watering day. She got a full gallon top feed as well as a full gallon reservoir refill. I noticed a couple of the lower branches are starting to fall over. It's really not a big deal, it's all larf down there anyway. I'm hoping for all the larf to harden up and swell to make some popcorn buds. Or at least something I may be able to salvage. I lost a lot of weight to larf with Number 1. The colas are definitely putting on more weight. Some are so solid, they don't sway when the fan hits them. No noticably new orange pistils today. I do see a bit of foxtailing here and there, but the buds are still super solid. I also discovered a thing today. So I'm 69" tall. Originally I measured the plant at 50", but today I was getting a really good look at the height and it seemed taller than originally measured. So I had to remeasure. The tent is 70" tall. The container and reservoir are 12.5" tall. And there is 5" from the canopy to the top of the tent. This makes The Beast 52.5" tall. With the pot and reservoir, it's nearly my height. I've also found a spot so filled with buds, it's completely blacked out. I'm worried there will be something growing there that shouldn't be. I moved them around a bit to get in there and I see no issues. I'll keep an eye on it though. Maybe open it up a bit more if I can. At least check it every couple of days. However, I don't think I'll have any issues. I've been able to keep the RH around 43% and temps around 74Β°. That being said, there shouldn't be any issues at all. There's also plenty of airflow from above and below. I'll still keep and eye though. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.8Β° RH: 40.2% VPD: 1.71 kPa (a bit high but it's well within range) January 12, 2024 Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 3 Curing Number 2: Not much going on today. I'll have to water her this afternoon. She's down to 18% moisture content and will arrive at 15% in a few hours. If it's not ready by 5 pm, I'll water tomorrow. The reservoir is being used, so the wick system is working. We shall see if it's the case for the rest of the day. In theory, the wick system will slow down the moisture consumption and should hold at 18% for the rest of the day. If that's the case, then I don't have to water until tomorrow. We'll have to see. More orange pistils today. Heavier and denser buds throughout the whole plant. Even the lowers are starting to weigh their tiny branches down too. No leaves falling off today, but I did snip a few that were nearly dead. I don't think they would have fallen off though. Something about the supplemental lighting has added quite the strength to the lower part of the plant. I still have a couple of super dense areas on the plant. I can't move the colas around either. They just flop back into place. I don't have a second SCroG net, so I'm kinda screwed in that sense, but I did pop 2 leaves off from the top that were covering some nice lower tops. I'm also noticing some more foxtails, but nothing major. I believe they won't be a problem if they even continue to grow. It looks like there are 2 colas that are doing it, and the one massive cola seems to have stopped since it came out from directly under the light. So I can only assume there won't be any problems. Plus as I've said before, the colas are already super dense all around, so foxtails are just extra trim for some kief or concentrate if I can get the equipment. I also checked out the trichomes today. I just wanted to see how far along they are. And honestly, I'm pretty sure they are spot on for where I want her to be. This last week of half nutrients while more of the trichomes turn cloudy. Currently there around 33% cloudy and the rest clear. I'm looking for 50% cloudy before I start to flush. That should give me a nice 2 week window of flushing and technically should start to fade around the beginning of the second week. I'm really hoping for a nice fade, and I'll wait for it for as long as I can. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.4Β° RH: 43.6% VPD: 1.59 kPa Pretty sure this is near perfect for this particular week in the grow. Next week I'll drop the RH down to around 40% and the final week, I'll try to hold it at 35%. I believe that is the recommended setup for the maturing stage. January 13, 2024 Gorilla Cookies: Day 4 Curing Number 2: She got a top feeding today. The wick system is working, but not at full capacity. Or at least not fast enough to keep up. I'm also trying to bring the RH up a tiny bit. It kept dropping below 40% last night, so I turned off the dehumidifier and turned the humidifier on. Hopefully that brings up the RH to between 45% and 50%. At least for the rest of this week. Then I'll focus more in between 40% and 45% for the next week and finally 35% to 40% for the last week. The colas are looking really nice. However, I'm seeing more foxtails on them. Not too bad and still dense. There is one I found today that was all foxtail and is not as dense, but it's also a smaller cola and doesn't look quite as developed as the others. Also, more and more lower branches are bending over now. Lol. The larf is too heavy for the tiny branches. Smh. I should have gotten rid of these 2 months ago. Oh well. There isn't too much taking energy, but still. Anyway, no more dying leaves. I may pull the damaged ones off as I go for the rest of this week. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.0Β° RH: 39.4% VPD: 1.74 kPa Still too high. I'm adjusting the RH up to between 45% and 50% that's should drop the VPD. January 14, 2024 Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 5 Curing Number 2: She'll be needing a top water and a new reservoir later today. Definitely drank more than a gallon last night. I noticed that there is more foxtailing and now I'm a bit concerned. Some of the colas are getting fluffy from it. The rest that have foxtails are still super dense and just have extra protruding from them. I wonder if I should turn the light down even more. Like 20%. However, the PPFD is around 800. So it shouldn't cause any stress like that. Maybe it's just the fact that the light is that close regardless of the intensity. Other than that, a couple more orange pistils. The lower section of the plant has super leaning branches now. So at least the budlets are going to swell up. Not much, but salvageable larf and popcorn. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.2Β° RH: 46.1% VPD: 1.52 kPa Perfectly on point today. Let's keep it that way. We have a blizzard here and the temps are below 20Β°. Surprisingly, I managed to get the RH up a bit and kept the temp around 75Β° January 15, 2024 Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 6 Curing Number 2: An interesting twist to today's water content. She seems to have slowed down her intake a bit. This morning she was at 26% moisture content. Normally she would be at 18% or less. This is a huge difference. If I remember correctly, this is the time to start flushing? I'll have to look it up again, but if I remember correctly, slowing down of water intake is a sign of lockout or coming to the end of her flowering stage. I don't think it's lockout. I already cut the Nutrients in half, so there definitely isn't too much. This is also the end of her lifespan and has about 2 weeks left. So is this a sign that flushing can start? The colas are still super dense, but the foxtails are getting longer on some of them. I've been told that the light needs to be below 1000 PPFD and it is, but I was also told the light height plays a factor as well. And the light height has been a major problem. So I expect I have to live with the foxtails. Other than that, I popped some of the dying leaves off the lower part of the plant. Nothing major, just a few here and there. Maybe 10 total, but given her size, it won't hurt anything. I'm going to let her dry out the reservoir tomorrow so I can start flushing. I should be able to start at the beginning of next week. Or I'll have to add a half gallon of plain water tomorrow, then start the flush. I'll report on what I do. Update: So I was trying to figure out a way to get more space between the light and canopy. I dropped the SCroG net down a bit to allow the outer colas to lean outward. Not only did it increase the light distance by like an inch, but it also opened the canopy up pretty well. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.7Β° RH: 42.7% VPD: 1.53 kPa January 16, 2024 Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 7 Curing Number 2: Today is the start of flush. I was going to wait for tomorrow, but the moisture level was at 14% and was just too low to wait. Also, the reservoir is still nearly full. I'm going to stick with plain water top feed while the reservoir dries out. Then I'll start Flawless Finish. So now that the SCroG net is a little lower, she settled down with quite the lean of a few colas. Some moved around other colas and the canopy opened right up. However, the front colas are all leaning at a 45Β° angle. Some are laying flat across. It's a good sight to see, but I have my concerns about the light exposure to those leaning colas. Hopefully it doesn't screw anything up. But as I had hoped, the canopy is a bit lower than it was before. I may also drop the light intensity down from 30% to 20%. I don't really see why I should, but I can't think of anything else that will stop or slow down the foxtailing. It's not like the PPFD is too high anymore. So why am I still getting foxtails? It has to be the light. But I still don't understand how. PPFD is around 800. Even more orange pistils today. And you can certainly tell she is in the maturing stage. The Pistils are orange at the tips and changing pretty quickly now. It's the perfect time to start flushing. I've been paying attention to the lower canopy and am finding some leaves to be fading down there. I expect that to increase in the next day or two while flushing begins. However, this is living soil with added nutrients. I'm pretty sure it will take a bit for the soil to deplete. Finally, the leaves. The upper leaves are all beautiful and green. Some are yellowed from the previous light burn, but the majority are great! I did find a couple that had died out today, but not as bad as they once were. I still believe the supplemental lighting is what strengthened the stems of the leaves and stopped them from dying. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.5Β° RH: 41.8% VPD: 1.55 kPa

lokos to be a fiar amount of perlite in your soil. overwatering is easy to avoid with simple good habits when watering. water until entire pot is wet. a little runoff ensures this, but not always necessary. wait for top 1" to dry and repeat. how often you fertilize depends on several factors and preferences. the more often you fertilize the less concentrated it sould be, and vice versa for longer periods of time between fertilization. so, if it is ever droopy after these types of irrigation habits, it's the drainagae quality of your substrate that is the cause of any droopiness or water-related issues. 50/50 is a good mix of perlite to soil. stick in that range and you should never see 'overwatering' while stickign to the above standard operating procedure. if you swithc to coco, only need 30% perlite (or similar drainage amendment) if you stick to those ratios fo substrate:drainage amendment, it is impossible to overwater. you might over or under fertilize, but it won't be from too much or too little watering. don't ever tell your self "it's all the same" because it isnt each plant is different gentics and potential different reaction to whatever is in the soil... that soil is not 100% homogenous either. always observe and react... cause and effect... feeling it's all the same is irrelevant and tends to interject personal biases into diagnosing problems. regardless, something specific is happening to the plant you observed looking odd. that's all that matters.. identifying and reacting properly. allow a bit more development before transplant for a rootball that is more robust. when you distrub the rootball that is usually the cause of any transplant shock.. not watering it.. you should always water after a transplant to help settle the substrate around it.. make sure you don't have to fill in any chasms if the form. time your transplants as best you can so it isn't 2 irrigations with very little time between. you don't want it to be as dry as a typical wet-dry cycle, so that the substrate will hold together better with enough moisture in it. deviating 1 time from that normal wet-dry cycle (waiting for top 1" to dry before next), is not the end of the world. but don't make a habit of it. also, in a small seedling tray or starter cup etc, you want to irrigate a bit sooner than 1" deep. in general it's anon issue, because by teh time you have to irrigate a recently planted seed, it's got a tap root all the way to bottom of small starter pots. allowing top to dry reduces risks of pathogens and pests. it keeps a good o2 ratio in soil for roots. it promotes deper roots vs superficial roots that are less effective. this simple method of irrigating provides numerous benefits. remember, you don't pick the volume of water needed... that is a recipe for fucking up substrate equilibrium. feel weight of pot when it is time to irrigate. this can be used as a trigger too. If you water at same weight loss, it requires the same volume of water as before. so, you can dial it in and reduce wasted water.

Autos do have a short life span and I noticed my plants lower leaves did this when I saw nothing else wrong with them. I plucked the leaves and continued watching and checking runoff ppms and ph. I grew in coco so ph wasn't my issue I was worried about ppms. Always follow the 10-20% water runoff rule. And make sure they are not 300ppm or more above your input ppms or your over feeding. Or 200ppms or more "less" then your input ppms. Or your under feeding. Environment plays a role so Google a good vpd chart, I use pulse vpd chart. Make sire your in the correct zone for your current stage of growth! I see nothing wrong but lower leaves dying off due to short life span, although a runoff check will tell you if you're deficient or toxic and then we can go from there! Please consider me as the answer to the question so I have a chance to win grower of the month contest πŸ™ please and thank you 😊

My 2x2 is starting to crowd. This is driving the RH to over 70%. Should I defoliate to help with crowding and RH? Or should I just leave it alone? RH in lung room is 48% Exhaust fan, high or low with a dehumidifier, doesn't work. What should I do? Defoliate? Thanks! Check diary.

Defoliation can certainly help. Less leaves = less transpiration. Are you keeping your soil really wet? If so water less. Lowering the space temperature will slow down the transpiration rate and will decrease humidity. Not sure what you are using for extraction fan, but it might be wise to just run it constantly, or get a bigger fan that can move that humidity out quickly and keep it in check. Keeping the tent open will certainly lower the humidity, but you'll waste light and release all of the environment. So to recap, Defoliate 50% of your leaves, yes Lower environment temperature (decreases transpiration rate) Don't saturate your soil or leave any water laying around (a big full root zone needs saturation, but if your plants go 4 or more days without watering then reduce your water volume) Invest in a bigger extraction fan

I'm using the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE. I don't top feed, so does anyone know if I should let the reservoir dry out? Or, because it's a form of hydroponics, do I make sure to keep water in there all the times? Also, should I keep the nutrients constant? Thanks!

In a bottom-feed watering system like the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE, it's generally beneficial to maintain a consistent moisture level rather than letting the reservoir completely dry out. Here's why: Continuous Moisture: Plants often prefer consistent moisture, and allowing the reservoir to dry out completely may stress the plants. Consistent moisture ensures that plants have access to water and nutrients when needed. Hydroponic-Like System: While it's not a traditional hydroponic system, bottom-feed systems share some characteristics. Maintaining a consistent water level helps provide stability in nutrient availability to the plants. Preventing Stress: Allowing the reservoir to dry out completely can lead to stress for the plants. Inconsistent watering can result in fluctuations in nutrient availability, potentially impacting plant health and growth. Nutrient Consistency: Keeping nutrient levels relatively consistent is advisable. Fluctuations in nutrient concentration can lead to nutrient imbalances, affecting plant development. Regularly monitoring and adjusting nutrient levels based on plant growth stages is a good practice. While maintaining a consistent moisture level is generally beneficial, it's crucial not to overwater. Overwatering can lead to oxygen deprivation in the root zone, potentially causing root issues. Finding the right balance and adjusting based on the specific needs of your plants is key to a successful bottom-feed watering system. Regularly monitoring plant health, nutrient levels, and moisture content will guide your watering practices.

The feeding system your running is probably more efficient on the smaller containers. Add to it the roots have to push to find water then it would be easier in the smaller container. Thus meaning the smaller ones found water first and had a easier time. If I had to guess the bigger ones will catch up, and surpass the smaller ones. Although this is my assumption, I'm not accounting for the phenos. Every strain has multiple phenos. You may plant 10 seeds and have 10 different looking plants. Better breeders get this dialed in, and the phenos are less sporadic. 10 seeds might give you 2 or 3 phenos instead of 10.. Now. With this said I would guess it's the smaller containers allowed the plants to have a steady supply of nutes quicker, if it's not a odd pehno... if so the bigger potted ones should catch up and surpass the little ones. Goodluck. Please consider selecting me as the answer so I can be entered for a chance to win grower of the month contest I would really appreciate your support growmie πŸ˜ƒ πŸ™

Lower 3rd is a general rule of thumb. I find the best practise is to keep your plant profile low through trellis nets and scrogging them (Screen of Green). I don't understand why people waste time and energy growing a plant 4 feet tall just to have to butcher the lower 3rd to half of the plant. Why did you waste the time and nutrients is what i ask myself? Why not trellis your plant and fill the net 3/4 with tops, then flip to 12/12, and tuck the first week, then allow everything to stretch up, then defoliate and watch your yield be epic, with little plant wasted.

In regards to a grow question about bottom feeding, I wanted to explain what I know and what I don't know about the bottom feed wicking system I have specifically with autoflowers. For starters the system works best when the 1 gallon reservoir needs to be refilled every couple of days or less. This is usually at the start of flowering when the roots have reached the bottom of the fabric container. No need to worry about the standing water. It'll be gone before anything has a chance to populate it. As for an autoflowers early life, I believe there is a difference here with photos and autos. Photos are generally in veg longer than autos, which means top feeding is a very short venture with autos. I have found that 14 to 20 days of top watering is sufficient. But not a full watering. Just enough to make sure the young plant gets what it needs. The final top watering before the bottom feed is about 1 gallon to 1.5 gallons. This is in both 3 and 5 gallon fabric containers with living soil and not coco. That could be different. It could also be a bit later or earlier based on what the plant wants. As for the bottom watering system, I prime the containers around week 3 by filling the reservoir with a half gallon of water and letting it soak into the soil. It takes about 20 minutes, but works well in the end. By doing this, the water from the bottom will meet up with the watering from the early top feed and by the time they connect the plant is ready for the wicking system. It's like prep work. As for what to expect during the grow, your roots will grow into the wicks. When this happens, I don't recommend lifting the plant from its base. This is where the fill up comes into play. I like to use a one gallon water jug to fill the reservoir. If I had a spout, I think it would be easier. Nothing pressured. Pour the water slowly to help with spillage. I also mix the nutrients right in the water jug. Makes it easier to fill up with an exact gallon. I haven't had much of an issue with salt build up, but I only use a 1/4 to a half dose. I wondered if I should let it dry out, but no. Instead, I use a lower dose of constant nutrients and keep the reservoir from drying out. Clean it every couple weeks and it should be good. A little trick I thought of in hindsight. Cut your wicks a little bit longer so you can make a loose knot to hold them in place. Make sure they are long enough to touch bottom. If I think of anything else I'll add it too. Any questions, please ask.

So this is what AC Infinity says about their Bottom Feed Wicking System. Please refill the basin whenever the water meter reads empty. It is recommended to clean and refill the basin every two weeks to prevent unwanted buildup and further protect against interlocking roots and wick lines. It's best to keep an eye on the meter for the low water reads.
