Two Green Crack Autoflowering seeds were put between wet paper towels, enclosed by two plates and put in a dark and warm environment.
Spring started yesterday and temperature is around 9°C outdoors. I have the heating running in the house but I'm not sure what's the current temperature indoors.
I placed the seeds in the TV cabinet on which is probably the warmest room of the house right now. Next week's temperatures will reach more spring-like values.
I overfed one of my previous plants and it resulted in a sub-par harvest in comparisson with the rest of them. This time around I'm going to be more careful with nutrients and I will pick them more consciously.
I'm open to suggestions on soil, feeding, watering. I went for coco and regular compost in the past but I'm willing to try other substracts this time around.
Day 3: I was putting the seedlings in their pots when the CFL bulb I bought the day before went bust. Major setback since I had to order a new bulb that won't arrive until next week. I'm very pissed and I'll try to get my money back today.
After a consultation with an illumination specialist I decided to go with a LED replacement bulb. It produces 6000 lumen (more than my first setup) and it draws much less energy than my CFL. This is also a warmer a light at 4000K and I'm glad because I didn't fancy much the 6400k (bear in mind I won't be changing lights between phases).
For the time being I'm putting the pots next to a window that gets sunlight during the morning. I hope the spring time sunshine helps during these next few days.
Day 7: Four days since transferring the seedlings to their pots, one of them rised from the soil whilst the other pot still resembles The Burren. I went for light watering and I'm not adding nutrients since the All-Mix is already heavily pre fertilized according to BioBizz.
03/04:
- One of the seedlings died a little after its cotyledons opened. The other one is growing rather quickly: week and half after germination I can already count 4 leaves, at 5 centimers of height.
- As for lighting I've seen people going for a 20-4 schedule and I've decided to settle for a 18-6 one,
- Since one of the plants died, I'm germinating another seed but it's taking longer than expected. The paper towel method failed and I'm trying with the glass of water now.
- Nutrients wise, I'm going to wait until the plant reaches 10 centimeters high to start with BioBizz's nutrition schedule.
- I've been watering the soil liberally every 2 days. I also try to keep the environment humid using a sprinkler.
08/04:
- The plant has 6 leaves now. I'll start with the nutrients when the following week starts.
- I germinated an extra seed in the other pot.
11/04:
- Started with nutrients today. 1ml of BioGrow on one liter of water.
- The plant's growth is surprisingly fast.
12/04:
- No watering today but sprayed a bit of water to keep the surface moist.
13/04:
- The smell is already noticeable.
16/04:
- The soil was too dry so I gave it a liter of water with 1ml of Grow and 1ml of Bloom.
I start LST from the start. I put a fan blowing on them soon as my seed pops. That is the first step of my LST. Then as they grow i will massage the stem between my fingers with a slight twisting motion. Looking at you photos that's where you are at. In the next week the bottom growth should take off and you can bend and tie down at that stage. This is all matter of opinion. Gl with your grow.
17/04:
- Started LST.
- My plan is to wait until the plant outgrows the top tie and start tying the main cola around the pot, counter clockwise.
19/04:
- Adjusted LST and tucked some leaves. I'm trying to give the new growth as much exposure to light as possible.
20/04:
- 420 is here and the plant is looking fantastic. I'm leaving the LST ties as they are for now.
21/04:
- Tensed the main tie a bit more and I might settle for this instead of going with the round shape I had in mind.
- I'm tying some leaves so they won't block the new growth. Learned this reading other people's Q&As
- Keeping leaves to a safe distance from the soil so they are not damaged by fertilizers.
I'm tying the top of the plant to one of the corners of the pot. I'm thinking of waiting until it outgrows the tie and becomes vertical again. Then I'd like to use that point as foothold and start tying the plant to the next corner (counter clock wise).
Does it make sense?
26/04:
- Tucking leaves I broke a fan leaf two days ago.
- I see 4 potential flowering spots and bracts are starting to show
- Watered today with nutes
- Trying not to overwater since I found gnats on other plants at home
- Just as prevention I put yellow sticky traps to keep gnats at bay
02/05:
- White pistils tell this one has entered flowering.
- I'm still keeping it tied, now with three more ties so I can spread branches more evenly and allow light into inner growth spots.
- No changes in the nute schedule.
- Still watering once a week.
Note on LST: I'm keeping a second plant, on which I will not perform any training to compare at the end which gave the biggest yield.
[Posting old photos since I took a break from the diary. The situation has evolved considerably in the greenhouse but I was too busy looking for a job.]
I took the ties off and finished the LST on this week.
20/05:
- Entering into day 59 the plant is into full blossom now.
- As for the nutes, I haven't increased the dosage of BioBloom out of fear of overfeeding.
- I'm watering with half a liter of water a week and I don't water until the soil is dry to avoid gnats.
- Next week I'll increase the dosage of Bloom to 3ml/l
