Im running almost all landrace this year, so I figure I will share my journey

"Manipuri plants range in colour from green to purple. Purple variants are especially prized by cultivators as the ‘chahao’ type (chahao is the Meitei name for black rice)."
I will be hunting for the Chahao phenotype expressions, but going to run with eyes open.
The Manipuri should have been germinated like the Nanda Devi, I fear. But I did get two before the paper towel method failed me. Too wet or too dry and hard to control when the bottom heat needs to ready 76-80F to germinate. Better to use sandy soil that insulates better, with better drainage.
Of all the landraces so far, the Manipuri is showing promise of being the 'monsters in hiding'. They are 1/3 bigger than anything else and remind me of Ace Double-Thai in this early phase.
With that landrace-hybrid, I thought I had boys until I didnt. They were huge and lanky until sexing late. Perhaps this will be similar. No added nutes yet, this week they got new soil from transplanting which is plenty. 1/3 cup of warm fish tank water every other day unless outdoor temps are above 80F. Getting 1-3hrs of real sunshine each day now.
7Apr: (day 31) Two Manipuri growing out nicely. I would say these are the largest of all of my plants the same age by maybe 10-15%. Both moved up to 5qt pots today.
14Apr: Given that only two Manipuri seeds made it, I am happy with where they are headed. #1 is measuring about 2" taller than everything else in the garden, and neither Manipuri has shown any signs of sexing yet. Fingers crossed that these keep up their growth rates.
21Apr: Both Manipuri are doing fine this week, settled into 5gal pots until maybe June-July when they go into 20gal. One is definitely female, the other hasnt expressed itself yet. I trimmed up the bottom-most 'false' branches and leaf clusters, and took out a couple of sun leaves to open them up. Pics are before any pruning. I can see a little color, more pink than purple on the step joints of the Manipuri, which I take as a good sign of general PH health. Sunday was 1tsp/gal grow, Wed was 1tsp/gal CalMag. When the 5gal are thirsty, I give them about 1/3 to 1/2 gallon each.
