D-4: I started 3 seeds in a glass of water.
D-3: After 24 hours the seeds hadn't cracked yet. I filled 3 1 liter pots with moist coco coir and planted the seeds anyway and covered them with plastic wrap.
D0-1: The first plant sprouted 3 days after planting and second the following day. The lights are on 100 % power and about 60 cm from the pots.
D2: I removed the third pot. The seed had only just cracked and the root just poked out of the shell. Maybe with time it would also have sprouted, but I only have room for one plant anyway. I'll keep the other two around for now and discard the weaker one when the time comes. The plants are about 2 cm tall now.
Heat was a problem this week. I have a tiny 60x60 cm tent and my lamp heats it up really quickly. I think the black pots and tray also heat up fast in the strong light. At around day 4 I started to notice discoloration in the leaves, I'm guessing because of the heat. I sorted out the fan placement and turned on air conditioning and hopefully fixed the high temp problems. At least the plants are visibly growing now, the progress in the last 24 h is quite good.
This week I watered the plants every other day and added nutrients every other watering. Each time I gave both plants about 250 ml, of which about 20 % drained off.
Plants are looking good. The problems from last week were probably caused by either heat stress or light stress. Moving the lamp higher seems to have fixed everything.
I transplanted the stronger plant in a larger pot in the middle of the week and tossed the weaker one. The roots had already grown around the small pots, seems good I didn't wait any longer to transplant.
Next week I will start mainlining!
I topped the plant down to 3 nodes in the beginning of the week. By about midweek the new main stems had grown enough so I could start bending them down. By the end of the week the new stems have already grown 3 nodes.
I topped the plant for the second time around mid week this week. The new main branches had grown to 4 nodes and I cut them down to 3. I also removed all growth from the second nodes, leaving growth tips and leaves only on nodes 1 & 3. I tied down all 8 future colas, away from the center of the plant.
This week was pretty boring, all interesting training has already been done. For now I'm just letting the plant grow taller and trying to maintain a flat canopy. I did remove a handful of the lower leaves to improve airflow and to make watering easier.
The plant seems to be getting thirstier and thirstier. I keep feeding it every other day in increasing amounts.
Seems I haven't been watering the plant enough for a while. The pot gets really light less than 24 hours after each watering. Previously I watered it every other day, now I'm giving it 2.5 liters daily.
The initial plan was to do a 6 week veg, but the plant is still a bit short, even for my tent. I'm hoping next week will be the last before flipping to 12/12.
Last week of 18/6!
The plant is drinking more and more. I wasn't home one evening and missed a feeding. The plant was completely wilted already 14 hours after the usual feeding time. I gave it some water and it was thankfully back to normal when the lights came back on 6 hours later! There are some signs of deficiencies on the leaves now, though.
The plant is about 30 cm tall now. Just tall enough for me, assuming it doubles in height during flowering. 12/12 starts tomorrow!
The plant is growing well, it gained about 5 cm this week. Pre-flowers have started appearing where the buds will later grow.
It does not look that big inside the tent, but outside it looks really big and bushy. I'm really happy with how wide it is, it fills the tent from wall to wall.
Finally some stretching! Future bud sites are appearing and the first small sugar leaf trichomes are coming in, along with a faint sweet smell. Damn it smells good!
I defoliated the plant heavily in the beginning of the week. I removed several of the lowest side branches and almost all of the sun leaves. I only left the topmost two pairs on each cola. I was a bit afraid I removed too much (again), but now it looks pretty good! The light can reach lots more buds now. The leaves have also grown back pretty well already.
Flowering has definitely started by now! Buds are starting to form and leaves are slowly getting covered in trichomes. The smell is still pretty weak, but really sweet.
In the beginning of the week I once again heavily defoliated the plant. I removed lots of leaves from all around the plant, but mostly the middle.
The tallest branch went crazy and grew up to touch the lamp and got burnt slightly. I probably should have super cropped it a while ago, but didn't feel like doing it. Oh well, at least it doesn't seem to be growing any taller anymore.
Buds are slowly fattening up and things are starting to look sugary. Vertical growth has definitely stopped now.
I cut off the burnt tip from last week and vaped it. I noticed a really weak (as expected) relaxing effect.
Halfway done with flowering! The plant has completely filled the tent and is a pain to move in and out of it. I have to be careful if/when removing any leaves now, new leaves won't appear anymore.
The flowers seem to have grown longer this week and colas are slowly filling up. Everything is covered in trichomes and the first few pistils have already turned orange.
The buds are slowly growing. I think they have about reached their final lengths. They just need to fatten up more.
More and more pistils on the top buds are turning brown. It should still be a month longer before harvest.
The end is nigh! It looks like all pistils have already turned brown on the top part of the plant. The trichomes are still mostly clear though, I found only a few opaque trichomes on the flower I cut from a lower part of the plant.
One more week to go!
Ended up harvesting it this week. I had put off checking the trichomes for a couple of weeks, because the batteries in my microscope had run dry and they don't have that kind in the store. Now I realized I can also use my phone to zoom in and saw the top buds are already done! Buds lower down were also looking pretty good. I gave the plant a quick 3 day flush and harvested it.
