This bagseed project is quite hard work. I have moved all plants from my 'nursary' to my main grow area. I selected all the plants that have shown best growth and health (till #20) and destoyed the rest - sob! Transplanted them all from 1 to 2g pots to 15 litre grow bags filled with home made/mix supersoil (except for BS#19 & 20). I must still add some compost with worms to plants > BS#10... waiting for the next batch to get ready.

It was rather hot last couple of days and some of the larger plants where droopy - I suppose they ran out of water - more so than the smaller plants ... so am upping the water frequency for the larger plants.

Last week I spotted female preflowers on BS#6 and have for this week taken close-ups of all the plants nodes for preflower spotting and have noticed some more females .. but also some males. Hence BS#19 and 20 have not been transplanted yet as some males will depart to the compost pile and re-use their homes to accomodate #19 &20.

Below a list of all my bagseed plants with my current observation as to their sexual inclination. Please feel free to correct me and leave a comment if I'm wrong:
BS#1 - male
BS#2 - male
BS#3 - male
BS#4 - ?
BS#5 - male
BS#6 - female
BS#7 - ?
BS#8 - ?
BS#9 - female
BS#10 - female
BS#11 - male
BS#12 - female
BS#13 - ?
BS#14 - female
BS#15 - ?
BS#16 - ?
BS#17 - ?
BS#18 - ?
BS#19 - to small - nothing showing
BS#20 - to small - nothing showing

It's difficult to distinguish the males. Females show quite obvious their pistils. The close-ups I took are perhaps too close-up as one can't see the little nuggets of the males distinctly. Plants #1, 2 & 3 with the naked eye show little nuggets - however kind-off dissapear in the zoomed-in pixalation. Anyway male pollen flowers won't happen for some months and the females will show themselves over time.

Anyway .. have a good laught at my LST techniques on plants #4, 10 & 18.
Till next week

Grow Questions

Hi. Please help me make up my mind re the sex of plants BS#3, 4, 11 & 17. I've included close-ups of the nodes. I've identified all the others as female - just like #15. I'm almost sure they're male - as their preflowers show, I just need the confirmation to pull them.

i I see Balls on 3a and 3b, and maybe 4b................................................And i think 4b, 11 a, b, c, are female ... it is getting clearer if they are bigger. Males are like onions and very round, females are more oval. If you are unsure, add more pics in the next days to look

Ooo new question. Have a look what's causing the discolouration and blothing on my leaves. Read my weekly writeup to grasp what was happeing the week. I googled nute deficiencies/toxicity but it's all confusing me now. Thanks a mil
Leaves Leaf Edges Appear Burnt
Stick answered grow question 6 days ago
Hi @Simsalabim! Sunlight activates photosynthesis and the more sun the plant gets the more nutients it will require. Basically, your plant is consuming loads of nutrients due to sunlight and pre-flowering stretch. She needs more Nitrogen and probably some other elements such as Magnesium, Zinc, Copper... You can increase BioGrow up to 2.5ml/L and add a teaspoon of epsom salts in your solution, this should help her for the next week, but be warned she will soon ask for P and K while entering the flowering stage. Nutrient uptake is probably slow because of the lack of container so you can also consider foliar feeding, this should prevent the deficiencies to spread, but avoid spraying anything once the preflowers are out. Hope this will help, keep us up-to-date and happy growing :facepunch:

When I Google deficiencies / toxicity I can compare some phosphorous deficiencies to your leaves and find out that the symptoms are the same so I would say phosphorus (P) deficiency with the rust part on your leaves , what you called brown blotches. The 2nd deficiency you have is a potassium one (k) as you can see some of your leaves have the edges that are starting to turn brown which is the 1st step then rust spot appears and a discoloration happens. 3rd observation : if the soil is still moist but the leaves are really droopy then it is an over watering issue , the symptoms of an under watering are the same but with a dry soil. 4th on the Bs#18 I can see the lower leaves yellowing which mean you have a nitrogen deficiency. To finish my answer I give you a link to a deficiency / excess chart ( in the comment section) that will allow you to find your issue or at least compare the external diagnosis you get from the Community :v::skin-tone-3:

Hey dude! Quick question about flowering photoperiod plants in South Africa if you don't mind?

So photoperiods only flower when hours of daylight is less than 12 a day right? I've checked online and the daylight hours in Pretoria only goes under 12 hours a day on 27 March. Does that mean my photoperiods will only start flowering then? Or will they start sooner than that? I thought they'd be about ready to harvest by then..

Any help would be amazing man and I'm asking because I know you know your stuff super well! Thanks so much in advance dude!

That is correct. They will start to flower from mid March. Perhaps earlier for some strains .. some later also depending when you have planted the seed. Say you plant in spring and the plants veg for several months. Their clock will keep track of daylight hours and will sense when daylight time is diminishing and nearing 12 hours .. they will switch. Say you plant a seed in Feb .. the plant will veg for a couple of months, then flip .. probably starting to flower later .. say end March or into April. I have planted seeds in April or later and some plants do a half hearted attempt into flowering before the winter cold stuns growth all together.

@Simsalabim, Thank you so much! This is all super valuable information. You're a pro, man!

Check out my diary, too. Going pretty well for my first time.

Lastly, please don't stop posting! This diary is like serious research for all south african growers. Can't wait to see what happens in flower. Epic!

Thank you so much again for all the advice!

@biird, Cool. Thanks for the compliment.
I am following you - so everytime there's an update, I'm checking it out - leaving a like if I have read it. in fact I try to follow all safricans (and others) with outdoor grows that I stumble uppon. I'm not really interested in indoor growing as that is another story.
Cool we here to help each other.
