Started in rapid rooters and transferred into an 18oz solo cup filled with 40% coco coir (washed), 30% perlite/ vermiculite, and 30% compost. No nutrients will be supplied until they are transferred into 1-gallon containers. At that point, they will be put in roots organic with a slight buffer of the aforementioned mix to prevent nutrient burn.
I have been able to keep the temperature relatively stable between 65F - 83F with a relative humidity between 30% - 65%.
I am starting this grow in a closet because the windows in my house are supposed to be replaced in the next 1-2 months and my landlord probably doesn't want me growing cannabis in the property. Once the windows are replaced I will be switching into a 4x3x7 tent that has a main chamber of 3x3x7 and veg/clone side of 1x3x7.
I am using T5's currently but plan on switching to a mars hydro 600w LED (350 actual wattage).
Transplant plan: 18oz>1 gallon (roots orgnic)>2.5 or 3 gallon (half strength super soil) > 5 gallon smart pot (full strength super soil).
Week #2 / Day 8 of the Green Crack. I have been able to keep temperature and relative humidity fairly consistent between 65F (nighttime low) - 84F (daytime high) and a relative humidity between 30%-65%. I would say my average temp/rh is around 77F/45%. I plan on keeping this girl (wishful thinking) in an 18oz solo cup until the leaves start to overlap the diameter of the cup. I have been watering every few days with room temperature de-chlorinated and filtered water with a ph around 7.
I sprinkled a little mycorrhiza on the roots and gave her a drink of de-chlorinated and filtered water served at room temp. The brand of mycorrhiza I used is called Mykos.
Starting to cool down in Oklahoma so I am having to watch my temps and humidity as they tend to dip in the night. No signs of pests or deficiencies at the moment (keeping fingers crossed).
Seems like growth is going a bit slow but kind of expected considering there are practically no nutrients in my soil mix. I would like to get some more root development so I sprinkled in some mycorrhiza (brand: Mykos) on the roots. I plan on transplanting into a bigger container (1 gallon) sometime this week.
Day 25! I started noticing some yellowing of the cotyledons and on the first set of lower leaves which I attribute to a lack of nutrients in my soil mix (40% coco, 30% perlite-vermiculite, 30% compost). I am doing my final transplant into 5 gal. smart pots filled with subcool's super soil mix but adjusted slightly to make it less, "hot". But for NOW, I have transplanted from an 18oz solo cup into a 1-gallon container filled with roots organic soil and sprinkled mycorrhiza into the transplant hole and on the roots of the plant itself and watered until a slight runoff started.
Update: The plant was showing a bit of transplant shock with droopy leaves but the plant has rebounded in less than 8 hours or so. Looking very happy to spread out a little more and finally getting some, "food".
Day 30! - I put the plant under my 700w mars hydro LED and it really seems to be enjoying it so far. I have also added a cool humidifier into the grow space to try and keep my RH closer to optimal vapor pressure deficit. I did decide to go ahead and give her some 5-1-1 fish fertilizer at 1/8 strength during the last watering on 11/21/18.
Week 6 - Day 34! I decided to top the plant before she hit her 6th node. I can tell it has shocked the plant a little. Growth seems a bit slow so I added some nutrients. This green crack plant seems very short and bushy in comparison to my other green crack I have going. I am wondering if I might have both phenos or if one is a male? Anyone have any imput on the same strains being vastly differnt in size and structure?
Update on equipment: I managed to get an airstone with a pump to make compost tea. I used some worm castings in some pantyhose, un-sulphered molasses, and fish fertilizer (5-1-1) and watered with my tea. After a bit more research I found out the pump that was given to me may not be strong enough to really get the water churning the way it needs to. Hopefully, my plant/s will not suffer for it.
I have also been doing some research on VPD since the last update. I knew relative humidity were important but I guess I didn't realize how much. From what I understand it can make a huge difference in quality. That being said I went and purchased a cool humidifier for the room because the RH was just too low according to the VPD chart.
Funny side note: What got me onto VPD was actually an Instagram comment from the notable cannabis advocate Todd McCormick. I asked him what his advice was for a noob grower? He said watch your VPD!
Until next time! Happy growing!
Day 42! I over watered so I decided to go ahead and transplant to help dry her out. I think it helped as she seemed to bounce back within 24 hours. I think I am starting to notice a little bit of nute burn from transferring into a hotter soil mix.
