Germination at the 11.05.2024 in Royal Queen Seeds Soil Plug.
After not showing any sign of Germination in the late evening today in the morning it was there. Finally, after 6 days.
The exact schedule was:
05.05., 18:15: Put seed to distilled water
07.05., 23:00: seed popped. Transfer to Soil Plug into Mini Greenhouse on top of fridge exhaust
07.-11.05. Kept Plug wet
11.05. Germination, yay
Day 1, 11.05.2024
Barbara germinated & is directly thrown into the fir- erm, into "the wild" (my roof terrace:D)
I decided to use my brand new 12.5L airpot for this low effort grow. The seed was a free seed from one of my purchases lately.
I filled the airpot with pre-moistured Light Mix plus 35g of Easy Boost Organic Nutrition (for Roots). It should help over the complete grow with fertilizer. On top of that I filled ~5cm of plain light mix. The idea: as the plant is in germinated/ very early grow its thirst for nutrients is little to none existent. So after it worked it's way through the soil plug it will reach unfertilized soil and only after that it gets access to very lightly fertilized soil. Let's see how this turns out :)
As this strain is an automatic and I think except for some exceed fertilizer from my indoor grow I will not give additional nutrients - I cannot legally harvest more than 50g anyway.
Day 2
Nothing to do but to give a sip of water in the morning.
Day 3
Watching my DIY PET humidity dome being blown away by a slight breeze I decided to fixate it on the airpot using my hole puncher and some wire. Works like a charm. I intend to leave the dome in place for the first week and until 6 leaves are visible.
Day 4
Nothing to do.
Day 5
- Gave ~50ml of water to Barbara & sprayed the PET dome for increased humidity anticipating another sunny day in western germany
Day 7
There were quite extensive rainfalls the last days. The soil is quite wet. Despite of this fact Barbara is growing further & is looking good.
So we are closing week 1. Finally, because I need to have everything in jars before my summer vacation. Barbara is clocking in at 3cm height in the end of week 1.
Day 8
- removed the PET Dome
- soil is still quite wet from all the rain
- will put her inside this night again until the temperature is above 15°C during the night
Day 10
- again nothing to do: the "low effort grow" grows up to its name
- did not water yet, because soil is still moist/wet & there might be rain in the next days
Day 13
- recognized a cut in one of her leaves. Maybe due to the heavy rain in the past days?
- also there are 4 new leaves instead of two - quite interesting
- despite the rather moist weather I guess Barbara is doing okay so far and I am happy to see her grow further up to her potential
Day 15
Finally a sunny day. Although one of her leaves looks a bit crippled the rest is doing fine I guess. Let's hope for another week of low effort!
Day 19
Approaching end of week 3 and what should I say? The weather is not ideal, humidity is not ideal and care is also not ideal. I guess these are the reasons why the height of Barbara is a little behind the expectation. I pray for better (dryer and sunnier) weather before she goes into flower...
Took her inside for the night with around only 11°C. Today there is not as much rain as expected, so I put her outside again.
Day 22
Starting the next week of vegetation with ~9.5cm in height. Quite small, but what can you do? Rainy weather, little sun and rather fresh nights in the past week took their toll on the plant. Let's see how we go forward in week 4.
Day 23-25
No action.
Day 26
Decided to top Barbara & hope she will cope with that well.
Day 27
No action.
Day 28
Last day of the week. She finally began to grow a bit. Also the weather is getting better & warmer. Let's see how this turns out!
Due to side projects Low effort grow is... Low effort. That obviously also reflects on keeping track of the grow an report on it here.
However, outside there is bad weather (cold, windy and very very very much rain).
Finishing this wet week with a lady that starts showing she is a lady (finally). I am very curious how the bad weather conditions take their toll on the harvest.
From now on she will get into flowering and we'll take it from there.
