As 2 of the cannabis plants are nearing harvest I have starded to gather material for preparing the soil after harvest. O'l dish towels made of cotton/cellulose makes perfect moisture-spreaders and are perfect for distributing moisture from the bottom of the pot up through the layers of dirt! I always have a little hole at the bottom with this peeking through, to draw up and absorb the water from the bottom of the pot, and if that water is a bit high TDS I dilute it with water and KOH or an acid, depending on the pH. Zero drain to waste is a challenge, but over time makes you observant to signs telling what the plant needs and you can adjust accordingly one little incremental change at the time, then wait, document and learn.
The used soil is removed from the pot and broken apart, mixed with compost, chicken bones, blood-meal and the twigs/leaves from the old grow and re-introduced to the pot for a new round! Zero waste; no traces in the garbage bin.
