This was a gift from Max Pointy to fill in my throwback outdoor grow spot. It has been 36 days since being taken as a clone. I used a combination of tilled outdoor soil, outdoor garden compost, and leftover amendments from my indoor grows. It gets partial sunlight, about 5-6 hours of direct sunlight a day. I am in the Canadian Maritimes in terms of climate. The daytime high is projected at 24 degrees celsius. Total daylight is currently 15hours44minutes.
It has been 42 days since being taken as a clone. Not much growth as it adjusts to the new environment. Still a lighter shade of green so i will be watching that, if plant food is needed. It rained all night. The projected daytime high is 24 degrees celsius. The current daytime hours is 15hours49minutes.
It has been 49 days since being cloned. I feel this plant is resisting nighttime temperatures more than other seedlings in the same conditions, on account of its size. It looks to be sprouting new growth, albeit slowly. No concerns.
Day 56 since being taken as a clone. This plant has had no issues with the less than ideal summer. Seems to be chugging along and is growing bit by bit. The fan leaves are massive with many fingers. It is nearing hip height from the ground. I saw a little streaking on the stem so I top dressed with a bit of VPW20 soil, sheep manure compost, and blood and bone meal.
The daylight hours is 15hours48minutes. The expected daytime high is 18 degrees celsius.
Day 63 since being taken as a clone. Because its not in a pot, this plant is deceivingly my biggest outdoors. The stem is becoming so strong and thick. Its becoming a hefty tree trunk. Loving it. Not much going on other than a little streaking near the base of the stem, I did top dress the soil. I am trying to go without liquid plant food as long as I can. A couple more weeks of veg.at least in any case.
The predicted daytime high today is 25 degrees celsius, the daytime length is 15hours41minutes.
Day 70 since being cloned. Poor picture quality this week on account of weather and the LST I did. I live next to a lumber mill which has an intense security floodlamp which shines at night. I was aware of its presence and was just waiting for the stock of wood to dwindle next to my yard. Now, everything above my fence line is somewhat lighted at night. I have up until the garage window to work with. I was forced to tie CBD over, too bad because it was approaching chest height. I tied it, and then trimmed off the unviable branches and leaves. It has been only a day so it is still adjusting to the tie and direction of the sun. The stem is massively thick.
The projected high today is 25 degrees celsius, and daytime length is 15hours31minutes. I anticipate at least 2-3 weeks of veg. left before stretch.
Day 77 since being taken as a clone. Everything looks good. It as fully adjusted to the extreme LST, and bent back towards the sun. I recently gave a little boost with 24-8-16 Miracle Grow All Purpose plant food and a dip of blackstrap molasses, but the rain generally negates this.
Rain today. Projected high of 24 degrees, daytime length is 15hours19minutes.
Day 83 since being cloned. I am surprised at this one, it seems to already have buds. If you touch then, the resin already smells (like peaches, or cream). I find this interesting as the rest of my outdoor plants have yet to bud. Even at the start of stretch it has pronounced pistils. Just water lately, I will soon transition food to flowering.
The daytime high was 31 degrees celsius. The daytime length is 15hours9minutes.
Day 93 since being cloned. I am counting flower now, based on the rest of my plants, even though CBDutch Treat has had buds for awhile. In fact, at this point it already has massive clumps!
So I really don’t get it - is CBDutch Treat much more photosensitive than other strains, and an earlier flowerer? My follow-up question would be would it then go the projected 9 weeks, or longer than 9 weeks if it is actually further progressed through flowering?
Or, does CBDutch Treat have some auto-flower genetics down the line that is emerging? I expect the potency to be low, but the growth makes it ideal for a mild Canadian Maritime summer.
I fed it 18-18-21 Miracle Grow Tomato plant food last week as a boost. I may have to start transitioning the plant food to pure bloom earlier than the rest.
The projected high is 28degrees Celsius, the daytime length is 14hours41minutes.
Day 98 since being cloned. Not much more vertical growth it seems. The bud clumps just seem to be growing, and making even more massive buds. Beautiful density with the peachy/creamy CBDutch Treat smell. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.
The projected daytime high is 19 degrees Celsius, the daytime length is 14hours17minutes.
Day 106 since being cloned. CBDutch Treat is such a photosensitive plant, this is well into flower. The buds are huge and are just steadily getting more dense. Stretch disappeared awhile ago. This is an ideal plant for short summers. Starts to flower at the very beginning of August, barely less than 15hours of sunlight. I recently fed 18-18-21 Tomato Miracle Grow plant food with a dip of Earth Alive Big Blue Alga and blackstrap molasses.
Daytime high is 23 degrees celsius, the daytime length is 14hours7minutes.
Day 83 since being taken as a clone. This is the fourth week that I have recorded flowering, but it has had buds longer than four weeks.
Surprise! Mold! Bud rot. I’m surprised because it hasn’t been intensely raining uncharacteristically or anything. Obviously the massive buds are vulnerable... but still. I am seeing indications on many parts, some explicit brown, spore patched areas. I have many indoor grows, and nice outdoor grows at risk, so I will full-on chop. Disappointing to say the least.
I have not been able to find any detailed outdoor flowering times online, but I did see one that said 7-9 weeks - so if you consider the couple weeks before I indicated flowering, maybe I’m not that far off. Oh well.
I wasn’t anticipating this so I did recently feed 2-7-7 Shultz Cactus plant food, with a dip of Earth Alive Big Blue Alga and blackstrap molasses. Fortunately it rained heavily at least once so thats sort of a flush.
The projected high today was 20 degrees celsius. The daytime length is 13hours48minutes. Again, CBDutch Treat seems to trigger early in summer.
This is my second experience growing Crop King’s CBDutch Treat, and has a story to it so please consider the description when seeing the rating (5stars).
Started off as a clone, and transplanted outdoors. One of the first things noticed about CBDutch Treat is that it is a super grower. It stretches, and gains size very quickly. The main stem was larger than a coin very quickly. This plant did great in a cooler, Canadian Maritime climate.
I have far less experience growing outdoors and did not realize that plants can be so photosensitive! It was producing buds by July, immediately after the longest day of summer. I have been told that Afghan varieties can be sensitive to flower at anything less than 20/4 hours of light/dark. So CBDutch Treat triggers immediately in Canada, this plant will be huge quickly, and have buds by July/August. I think that harvest may be in September. I was really thrown off by this timeline. Online I can only find the indoor timeline, and no outdoor prediction.
A quick finisher is ideal for short summers, however, the tradeoff is that you have massive buds very early. When we experienced heavy rains, the temperatures were still warm, which enables more mold and microbes. Partway through flower, at the end of August, I noticed the plant had mold. The massive, huge buds had brown splotches of spores, and the sugar leaves were dying outwards. Considering I had other plants, I made the decision to harvest early (ultimately it may not have been as early as thought, to the points above). Gigantic buds were cut open to reveal bad chemistry that you don’t want to vape - lots of rotted bud was trashed. My final yield is comparable to most of my other grows, so this plant would have broken personal records.
The buds, though white still, turned to orange over the course of the dry and cure. The smell is sweet, of peaches, or cream. This taste persists when vaping, and has been the same through multiple CBDutch Treat Plants. This strain tastes reaaaally good.
Because it is a CBD strain it has 4%THC and 8%CBD. Its light, and perfect for before work, tasks, serious things, or edibles. The effects are slightly energizing. Because I harvested early, it seems a bit different then my first plant. So I expect the effects/potency could vary.
Overall, with a lack of information on outdoor flowering, the total surprise of full buds before September, and then mold so easily ... I can’t really give it a good rating. However, I would still approve growing it - it is a unique, effective strain with a great taste.
The details are generally above. If you consider there were buds before I started choosing the flower option each week, i was nearing 7 weeks of flower anyway. Online, the projected time is 7-9 weeks. Did it almost make it anyway? Indoors, the hairs turn orange, so maybe not quite.
This plant had a massive stem at the end. Much larger than a Canadian toonie (coin), perhaps a 1.5inch diameter. And yet, I was easily able to rip the harvested stalk out by hand. Cannabis plants like to stretch their roots, but are content near the surface of the soil. Roots surprisingly do not penetrate that deep outdoors.
I will say this plant resisted insects and pests quite well.
I did not go through the typical huge photo shoot as I was forced to cut all the flower up, to inspect for mold and ensure a thorough drying.
Hey, Sorry to hear about your mold problem. Idk why this diary wasn’t recommended to me, I’m growing it indoors right now.
I found that it transitioned to flower very quickly, and is larger then the 3 other strains I have it with. Yours could have transitioned early from the CBD if it came from ruderalis genes. Also possibly lower light levels from being between the shed and fence. Bud rot from lack of air circulation from that location as well. I’m fighting some low light transitioning in my veg tent at 24/0. I’m in the prairies and may try this strain outdoors next year and see if my pheno would be done by September.
Anyway, great final review and good luck indoors.
Happy Growing 🌱
@SAC87, thanks for the articulate and detailed response. I appreciate the feedback and comparing experiences, very valuable. You’ve given me some food for thought for next summer.
