This plant was a surprise success. I had taken a number of clones off Monster Strawberry Cough Clone (2019), and have many clones in various stages. I generally suck at cloning so sometimes they veg. for a few months before they sprout. I just happened to look at the bottom of this plant and roots were poking out. I’m not sure when exactly I clones this one, ... I will go with just a start from transplant: today is day 1. I didn’t have my usual amendments on hand so I just used sunshine soil #4 and myka microculture. I have a full rotation so I have a ton of time to veg. this one.

Day 8 since I started counting the lifespan of this clone. It has chosen to repair its leaves rather than generally sprout new ones. The waxy green has progressed. It has gained some height but most of the energies has been in repair.

Day 15 since 8 started counting for this clone. It has exploded, huge growth gains lately. I transplanted to a larger container using VPW20 soil, blood and bone meal, sheep manure compost, and worm castings. I will be tying the main stem down sometime soon.

Day 22 since I started counting for this clone of unknown date. This Strawberry Cough exploded and caused me to tie it over. Very intense growth. I have since splayed it and trimmed off leaves and smaller branches. Getting a very nice starfish look. I am pleasantly surprised by this clone, particularly growth of the main stem. I have also topped some of the new growth.

Day 36 since I started counting for this clone. Lots of strong, vigorous growth. I anticipate space problems so I am liberally topping branches. I also defoliate at will. This plant will have four more weeks of veg. growth to fill in. This plant has a really spread canopy which is wonderful, but difficult to manage. Earlier in the week I fed 24-8-16 Miracle Grow All Purpose plant food with a dip of blackstrap molasses.

Day 59 since being cloned. This plant be a tad over watered and over nuted. Unreported in my other diaries, I went away for a couple of days and had to be a bit heavy with liquid before leaving. I don’t think its a big deal. I did recently feed 18-18-21 Tomato Miracle Grow plant food with a dip of Earth Alive Big Blue Alga and blackstrap molasses. I believe the overall thinness of the leaf fingers is partially because of excess P and K. But nothing major or concerning, onward! Strawberry Cough is primo bud and will still be great. I just moved it to the flowering tent, so this is really the end of veg. check-in, even though the picture is of my flowering tent.

Day 63 since being cloned. One week of flowering complete, eight weeks to go. Some stretch, no doubt, but I can’t help but see the likely potassium excess. Then super thin leaf fingers are not normal for Strawberry Cough in my experience. I have given water, i may rotate another water-only into the cycle for now. Nothing to majorly worry about.

Day 70 since being cloned. Two weeks of flowering complete, seven weeks to go. Potential overnuting and excessive flowering stretch aside, everything else looks fine with this plant. I see the buds are forming and so I will just stick with the (feeding) plan and observe the results. It has gotten the last of the 18-18-21 Miracle Grow Tomato food with Earth Alive Big Blue Alga and blackstrap molasses dip, I will be reducing the amount of nitrogen over time.

Day 77 since being cloned. Three weeks of flowering complete, six weeks to go. This plant has stretched far too much post-topping so we shall see if the branches can support the buds, as well as if the nodes close with bud. I have fed 2-7-7 Shultz Cactus food with a dip of Earth Alive Big Blue Alga and blackstrap molasses. Everything is fine otherwise, minus maybe my overgrown tent!

Day 85 since being cloned. Four weeks of flowering complete, five weeks to go. This plant is really starting to smell, its the one I notice when I’m moving around the tent and disturbing things. Wonderfully sweet, like candy. The branches are so stretched and the plant so large it was slumped and sagging. I took nylon string and tied all the branches into a bouquet. This is really the only way to keep it upright. The node spacing on this plant is not ideal, far too spaced and stretched. We shall see what type of harvest/trim I end up with... All my plants are too large and this is making photography difficult. I can barely move around let alone snap pics. I attempted to show my tent with the last two pictures but its blocked by this Cough, and another plant. Sorry for the poor visuals. I assure you the smell is nice!

Day 91 since being cloned. Five weeks of flowering complete, four weeks to go. I recently fed 0-10-10 Alaskan Morbloom with a popsicle stick dip of Earth Alive Big Blue Alga and blackstrap molasses. This plant is sort of stringy and doesn’t have the most massive buds, but they smell strongly! The strawberry is penetrating and dominates the senses. It may not yield as much but these buds will probably be more prized.

Day 97 since being cloned. Six weeks of flowering complete, three weeks to go. When I built my current setup I built two tents, one that is 6’x4’ and one that is 4’x4’. The available electrical hardware, and timer situation, and my thought process on working with clones made me choose the larger tent for veg. Since then, I realize clones need much less light, the rest of the tent has sat empty, and I’ve been heating my larger tent with two sets of CFLs. But now I’ve upgraded my timer and power bar, and have flexibility, ... I’ve switched my two tents. The 6’X4’ tent is now my flowering tent, and my 4’x4’ is now my veg. tent. I have moved Widow over to the new home. There is the main LED standard to both tents, four tube CFLs (2 warm, 2 cool spectrum), and the six yellow spectrum LED lightbulbs. The last two pictures attempt to show the main four from the previous flowering tent. Another note to make is my oscillating fan broke so at the moment there is no circulation other than the outtake fan. The thermometer is currently under the canopy so the reading is a bit off. This plant gets the last of alaskan morbloom, and all food, tomorrow. The buds are not huge on this plant, and yet the branches are still so swollen they are laying over, laying horizontal, slumped, etc. Clearly a tall indoor plant is not convenient. Even though the yield looks small, these buds shouldn’t be discounted. They emit a very strong sweet, strawberry smell. They don’t even look that frosty and yet when I touched them and snapped some pictures, a glob of resin/oil was left on my phone. I kid you not, a literal drop of wonderful liquid visibly on my screen. Yummy!

Day 104 since being cloned. Seven weeks of flowering complete, two to go. Really poor photos because the buds are laying horizontal. Most of my plants are too large/lanky to support their own weight but the Cough is the worst, and yet the buds aren’t that big. The frost isn’t obvious, but its there. The buds are actually quite dense so I expect a nice modest yield of super smelly flowers. The fragrance is sweet/strawberry, very strong. Just water for the rest. For those keeping track my fan had broke but I didn’t wait long to replace it. I had a spare Costco fan that I have laid on its side, and have on the highest setting. This is really circulating the air nicely while leaving the main canopy generally undisturbed. I think i’m getting more accurate temperature/humidity readings too.

Day 110 since being cloned. Eight weeks of flowering complete, one week projected left. I’ve decided to pull the plug on Strawberry Cough. I’ve been monitoring the buds closely, they did swell this past week, but they are not really gaining quality at this point. For the amount of yield I am losing out on I’d be better served rotating another plant into my flowering tent. You can see I was beyond a good size, the branches stretched too much, and were scrawny and too heavy to support. To be honest, this plant in general is a bit disappointing looking at the size of the buds. Believe me, they are dense, frosty, and veeeeery smell (just amazing smelling, actually) but there is not much flower. Ahh well. I respect Dutch Passion’s Strawberry Cough too much not to do one last photo preview before chop, I just took it outside my basement, outdoors in natural light. I am also noticing red stems, deficiency etc. Obviously the plant uses up nutrients as it gets close to harvest so I’m not concerned about the yellowing and such, but I’m still tweaking the feedings for Cough, as I suspect maybe a better nutrient regime would have boosted yield. I have been giving the same schedule to three other beauty plants, so I’m not way off in left field depriving the plants. I will get many ounces off of CBDutch Treat, Laughing Buddha, White Widow, etc. Strawberry Cough is still a favorite strain - but it is a low yielder. I gave it a good flush and put it into darkness...

Week 18. Harvest

Happy Harvest Day!

7/10

I am happy to have grown Dutch Passion’s Strawberry Cough again, this time as a clone. The strain comes as advertised - smells and tastes like strawberries. Nothing has knocked this off my list as one of the more fragrant and best tasting varieties. The individual grow was a tad disappointing in the end. One major detractor of the Strawberry Cough strain is that it produces a light yield, it has consistently given little product. Historically, I have settled with a smaller gram total, but this time it is a huge negative. My 7/10 rating is almost entirely yield. Heading into this experience I was thinking it may improve on its previous ratings.... wrong. Generally, it appeared to have went well during the grow. Overall, this generation stretched too much and got too tall and lanky. I see the benefits of a more squat plant. Cough did poorly in this state, I’m not sure if it was just the plant, the leaf distribution, or what, but the other plants/strains that stretched too much still produced massive crowns. I could criticize myself and say perhaps the food went away too quickly, but again I have other plants performing well with my feedings, as well as past Strawberry Plants. It was a bit veggie, stringy, not fun to harvest. I have high standards and any bleached, immature, or just puny flower was pitched. Either way, just not enough bud! Its a tease. The cannabis I did dry and cure is wonderful - sweet and berry like. Even without curing as long as last time it is still strong and enjoyable. One of the best tasting strains around. Effects are light to moderate sativa. Relaxing but not overly potent or trippy. I may take a break and explore some other fruity or fragrant types, but believe me I will be circling back. I may also keep Cough in the rotation. It is sooo good!

Nothing to add but what I mention above. I maintain that though this plant could have used more food, cannabis plants should be using their own nutrients and be getting just water for a couple weeks at the end. I’m not convinced overloading on nutrients would have changed this diary. But I will give props to other users like GeorgeSmiley who have been growing some kicka** Strawberry Coughs indoors and outdoors, and I’m trying to give advice on their diaries like I know something! I will bow out with this one... great job! I am learning from you. I have to improve growing Cough myself! Irealize certain strains have certain nutrient demands and are all different, but my other diaries validate that I’m not completely off base. But I’m still scratching my head with this one. I’d also reiterate that I do chuck alot of product during harvest. I grow many plants in rotation, and quite frankly have kids and not the time. I don’t recoup every last trichome. If its not a sizable nug and near the top of the branch I chuck into my outdoor compost. Strawberry Cough was stringy and didn’t swell much, so it was almost exclusively tops harvested.

I think you would get alot more weight if you treated this strain like a sativa dominant strain and flowered for an extra two or three weeks. I've had the same thing with my sativa base strains they need alot longer to pack out and chunk up but i have never grown strawberry cough so It could just be that the strain is a really light yeild.

@JUNGLE_B4RNS, yes. Very fruity. It smells really good while growing, and the final product is very fragrant. It has a very distinct taste on the first two hits through the vape. I haven’t grown a huge variety of strains, but I’ve purchased and vaped a huge variety in my time and if you are into flavour - believe me, buy some seeds from Dutch Passion.
