This is a new diary! Amidst so many recent seedling failures (at my own doing) I am forging forward headstrong thanks in part to FastBuds and their fast flowering tester line. I am excited to be growing a strain with others in the GrowDiaries community and the unknown aspect is really fun. So, here we go....”FF 1 - 50 days Mostly Sativa”
Nothing to report other than this is day 4. I seeded in a peat pod in HP Pro Mix soil, Myke Herbs and Vegetables, and a small amount of worm castings. I’ll be specifying soil when I transplant to more amendment. I will say, the seed popped with vigor. I’m not sure how to describe it, but some seedlings just look strong. How could I possibly mess this up?? Challenge accepted. Stay tuned for coming failures.
The light is a cheap full spectrum LED, with 1/6th of that again in a smaller pod, for 350 actual wattage.
Day 11 for the Fastbuds FFT#1 tester. Nothing in the seedling stage other than growing. My environment is not ideal so a testament to all the surviving plants.
Speaking of.... I knocked this one onto the floor not once, but twice this week spilling its contents. Like just truly clumsy. It seems... fine? We will truly test out the health and vigor of this one! I did germinate a bunch of other testers so its like progeny and hopefully one makes it.
Day 18 for the FastBuds fast flower tester #1. Yes, I’m aware is sucks... its all on account of just cold temperatures. Not really a true warm core, routine dips, and cold concrete floors. I diverted my furnace output directly into my veg. tent and installed a secondary thermostat to my furnace. Now I can get consistency and actual warmth. I can see a difference in one day despite the pathetic pictures. I may be able to save this one yet! Just dialing the system in.
Day 25 from seed for the FFT1 tester. Still puttering along and quite pale. I overwatered as my furnace started to even out the cold, and I worried about humidity. Temperatures have helped all my plants, but the turn around has not been instant. Is it ruined? I’ll have to decide soon. I’m rooting for a come back, please! 🤞🏻
Day 32 from seed for the first of the FastBuds fast flowering testers. If you haven’t been following, go back and you’ll read about my winter cold problems. I did get everything cleared up but seedlings are vulnerable and take awhile. I’m not sure if this one will recover. It does appear to be getting more green, however patience and time is wearing thin. After fixing the heat I felt I overwatered and so I went without irrigating basically all week. The seedling was perky and feeling good. I did have to give more water and so its a bit drooped again.
Day 39 from seed for the first of the FastBuds fast flowering tester. I was ready to throw in the towel ... but FFT1 kept fight and was like nah not today. Its back, I am surprised. Overwatering or underwatering looks similar but regardless I was screwing around. Finally, I applied a very dilute 18-18-21 Miracle Grow Tomato food with blackstrap molasses, and got a pulse. Later, I tried a less dilute, but more than usual, 24-8-16 Miracle Grow All Purpose with blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). All of a sudden, we have a diary! New future ahead.
Day 46 from seed for the first of the FastBuds photo testers. The return continues, FFT1 is gaining size and colour, so much so its just amongst the general plants now. I wanted to assess the root zone and growth so I transplanted to a slightly larger container. My primary soil mix was: 10 parts HP Pro Mix: 5 parts worm castings: 1 part Fox Farms Happy Frog soil, and Myke Herbs and Vegetables mycorrhizae. So far so good, just water as it uses soil amendment. Things are looking up!
Day 53 from seed for the first of the FastBuds fast flowering testers. FFT1 was in a slightly larger container than the rest so it has just sat and vegged. It is at excess of nutrients as it is very bendy and thin leaves are being put out. No problem, water and time. After getting into the photoshoot I actually topped once (before and after represented).
Day 60 from seed for FFT1, the first of the FastBuds fast flowering tester line. The story has been topping and time has caused branching, so multiple shoots. I just have trimmed fan leaves and cleaned it up. Time and water? Not much else to say, its looking good. Mid range for size and length in terms of the testers, in my environment.
Day 67 for the first of the FastBuds fast flowering testers. Continual adversity, lately its been temperatures again. Though I have furnace input, its been very inconsistent outdoors which means my upstairs has been triggering the furnace less. Any plants close to the ground are slow going, and getting deficiency purple streaking from temps. I’ll try to rotate some around and maybe get some plants some temperature relief. I am also monitoring some pests I’ve noticed, not gnats or mites, something altogether? Small white specks. Water and time in terms of feeding.
Day 74 for the first of the Fast Buds fast flowering testers. I’m getting mixed up! I almost forgot to mention I transplanted to a larger container! I did this at the beginning of the week and so it was a silly mistake.
My primary bottom mix was 30 HP Pro Mix: 5 Fox Farms Happy Frog: 5 worm castings: 2 ASB Greenworld Sheep Manure Compost: 2 ASB Greenworld Black Earth: 2 ETI Greenhouse Gold Seafood Compost: 1 Blood and Bonemeal pellets: 1 Green Gaia mineralized phosphate (guano): 1 alfalfa meal compost: 1 pulverized egg shells. The mix has been a little hot to go with inconsistent temps last week, so I’m not going to put my finger on any one thing.
Most importantly, I did in fact find pests this week. I think they were aphids. I absolutely nuked the plant with pure moonshine spray (basically ethanol), so much so the leaves did incur damage. I haven’t see a return so it was probably worth it. I trimmed the really badly damaged leaves.
Day 81 from seed for the first of the FastBuds fast flowering testers, FFT1. The transplant has been a slow process as it takes some time for plants to absorb soil amendment. However, whereas some of my vegging plants are looking knarly and need some plant food, water, time and/or love, FFT1 just needs time. I’ll be trying to clone and when I feel confident then I just look for a flowering window. More size needs to be gained for now. First group shot is before this week’s pruning.
Day 88 from seed for FFT1, the first of the Fast Buds fast flowering testers. This thing is absorbing nutrients and is becoming nice and green. I think we may have seen the worst, but I am not foolish enough to say its over. Lets see where it goes. I want to ensure no nutrients make it into flower and so there is plenty of time vegging away. I will only give water and regularly defoliate. I am starting to mix up mid sized plants and sea of green style, this is slated as mid sized.
Day 95 from seed for FFT1, the first of the fast flower testers from Fast Buds. Just water as there is plenty of soil amendment. The green shows it at the brink of nitrogen excess. During photos I spotted some spots from pests. Aphids I think. I sprayed heavily with moonshine and should have taken care of it. Will be monitoring and defoliating over time. I’m trying to keep this paired with a Trainwreck of the same size.
Day 102 from seed for FFT1, the first of the fast flowering Fast Buds testers. Just trying to get some leaf fade going so just irrigating with water only. Lots of potential clones cut after photos. I have been trimming foliage to manage any pest problems. The plant is hard to reach and the perfect, leafy environment for insects. Perhaps flower next week if I can prove there is a decreasing amount of soil amendment.
Day 106 from seed for the first of the fast flowering testers from Fastbuds. Okay, time to flower. Still a bit dark green but with just water for several more weeks it should be fine. I have learned my lessons with nitrogen so plenty of irrigation upcoming. I’ve taken a good number of clones, nothing left to say but onward! Group shots are the new flower tent, not my veg. tent.
Day 113 from seed for FFT1. One week of flowering complete, about six weeks to go. Everything is looking good and I am still giving water, even with the prospect of faster flowering. I want to really use up the soil amendment. Comparatively, I would say its triggering faster to an almost identical plant in Trainwreck (I).
My flowering lighting is two 300 actual watt LEDs with 96 watts of yellow LEDs supplementing that.
Day 120 from seed for FFT1. Two weeks of flowering complete, about five weeks to go. Buds are coming on strong and fast. I’ve only given water and even though I see buds I am still being a bit conservative. I will start into flowering food this week. Looks healthy.
Day 127 from seed for FFT1. Three weeks of flowering complete, four weeks left. In general, many of the fast flowering testers seem to have to be pushed a bit further, so maybe closer to five weeks left. Lovely buds, a bit larger than another of comparable size, but with less time left. Interesting smell that I want to get a handle on before guessing. Healthy and green still. Most recent was 0-10-10 Alaska Morbloom with a popsicle stick dip of blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag).
Day 134 from seed for FFT1. Four weeks of flowering complete, three weeks to go. That said, I’ve been bringing the fast flowers an extra week longer in flower. This is one of my best plants. As a comparison, its almost identical to Trainwreck 2019 (I). I’ll end up harvesting at the same time, but you can see this one pushed forward a bit quicker and got big fast, but then tapered off down the stretch comparatively. Regardless, amazing! Really kicking into high gear. Last irrigation was water.
Day 141 for FFT1. Five weeks of flowering complete, two weeks projected, about three weeks to go. A fed a couple days ago, 0-10-10 Alaska Morbloom, a popsicle stick dip of blackstrap molasses, and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). Things are looking good as we approach the end. I’ll be seeking to get leaf fade too. So we shall see if I feed again.
Day 148 for FFT1. Six weeks of flowering complete, about one week to go. I was aiming for an extra week as stated many times. Ugh, but I want it now! Discipline! We shall see. I am just giving water until the end. How fast can I fade the leaves with flushing without overwatering. Smell is good, not sure exactly what, but its not bad.
Day 155 for FFT1. Seven weeks of flowering complete. No projected week left but for consistency I will hold it for one more week. Nice musky like smell. Sort of in the same vein as White Widow or Super Silver Haze. I think its likely done as it isn’t really swelling anymore, but harvest will be sometime this week. I will likely forgo last update, not sure. I will be flushing until the end.
This is FFT1, the first of the photoperiod fast flowering testers from FastBuds. This was the first I planted and thus the first to experience low temperature and other issues. It took awhile to transplant and rebound, so the timing is off from the rest of the FFTs I’ve done so far, this one was able to grow a bit bigger and get trained. I would say it taps out down the stretch in terms of swell and beast genetics, I had a very similar standard photoperiod that was able to put on much more and surpassed FFT1 in the end.
Smell during growing wasn’t bad, but I don’t think it was indicative of the finished taste/smell. Total swerve, upon drying, it started to give off a highly fruity, sweet taste. Very nice! This would make a shortlist of one if the fruitiest tasting strains. Flavour is really dynamite with this one.
The effects are sativa, not mind numbing, but certainly effective for chilling. Very good mixer weed both from effect and flavour perspective.
I have more seeds so I still have it on my backburner. I was too excited and decided to give my only clone away, I want others to experience this one. This may he my favourite FFT so far! (Stay tuned ...)
Typical ending. I flushed, and then gave some extra time in dark. I wet trimmed and then bud washed before hanging to dry. The wash is one container baking soda/lemon juice/water, one container water.
This strain’s taste reminds me alot of Gorilla Bomb by Bomb Seeds.
@The_Bearded_Grower, fair enough. I don’t compete with anybody. I think you’d get a similar size in less time, if there weren’t any issues early on. 🤙🏻
Good to see other testers on the site ... I just began germination on my set of testers I decided to go with FBT 05,06,08,10,11, and 12, basically all the indica or mostly indica strains for my first run, I actually had to restart 10,11, and 12 today, 10 and 12 just weren't growing and I thought 11 was doing the same but was actually growing just taking awhile. I'll be following your grow to see how FBT 01 grows before growing my own, GOOD LUCK!
@Mr_Weeds_Autos, no issue with FF1 so far, very strong. Outperforming other seedlings that are struggling. I have FF2, 3, 4, 5 germinating at the moment.
