Week full of anticipation about the little plant named High-Di / Heidi growing and also building of the growth environment ~
Grow box got mostly finished, as did grow lights, power supply and few other aspects. Lot of refining such as air filtering, temperature and humidity measurement and computer control appear in coming week. In the beginning there was some trouble keeping temperature good, few times things exceeded +30, luckily the plant didn't seem to mind.
Soil is a mix of perlite and compost soil from a gardening shop, with plenty of nutrients etc. in it according to the label on the bag. So far so good ~
Second week got additional improvements to the lighting setup which got prepared for dedicated exhaust (yet to be built) and also hegiht can now be regulated without effort. Plant is starting to look like something we all know and love <3
First smell was also present on the end of this week, and it has been getting stronger, smell like inside of my grinder lol.
This week I had a problem with overwatering, I'm not yet sure about the ideal watering procedure but 2 drinking cups of water was too much after every 2...3ish days for now since the plant got a bit droopy shortly afterwards watering and sprung up mostly the next day.
Each photo is taken roughly a day apart, with small growth every day. This week I began with the low stress training, though perhaps prematurely. I don't think the plant will mind a whole lot in the end ~
Few more days of the week left, there's gonna be more height and perhaps another tie on the plant.
Older leaves have some subtle yellowing, suggesting magnesium deficiency. I will look into it on the next week since this week has concluded now ~
Beginning 4th week I noticed that old leaves were yellowing pretty hard between the veins and that suggested magnesium deficiency. I went to local gardening stuff shop and got blueberry orientated mix which had everything one can need from the listing of stuff. Plant started to grow much more quickly after the first watering.
On 3rd day I can clearly see that the plant is de-yellowing and it grows pretty well and also responds to the LST very nicely too ~
I have been upping the lights every day too, currently at 25cm or so though I will hit the ceiling soon (couple tens of cm left to go), there were some signs of light burn on topmost leaves. We'll see if light burn really becomes a problem, I can still smoothly dim the lights if I must, joys of DIY approach ~
5th day this week shows that the new fertiliser is working its magic and even the old crunchy leaves are starting to green up again :D Plant has grown fair bit and I have to probably make more ties for enchanced bondage for Heidi lolololol
6th day I added more binds to the plant, there's been significant growth too over the night. I discovered there's some mold on the bamboo sticks I attach the binds to. I'll have to kill that mold and but something around the sticks to prevent moisture from being able to build up there near the surface.
Last day of the week shows just some extra growth. I did get the pot topped out with soil since I bought some for other purposes and had an excess. I'm sure the plant will put it to good use ~
I found small amount of mold on the bamboo sticks I use for LST, I dropped some technical spirit on them and the mold got destroyed. I hope I won't need to do more of it. I have to adjust the training ties a lot, to keep leaves from covering each other. I'm getting good amount of new growths between branch points ~
I'm not sure when I should remove some leaves, it would certainly make my life easier...
Week 5 has begun and there really isn't much to say other than plant grows nicely and loves the blueberry mix and I removed a few leaves to let the nodes get more light that otherwise were getting obscured.
This week I also finished the door of the grow box, no more 4 screws in the corners but a latching mechanism and highes even hahaha. I still haven't lightproofed the air intake part but that pretty much will be last thing to do. Air filtering is working too and it seems I won't need to actually give the lights their own separate exhaust since temps stay normal after I moved the box into its final location. Roughly +26...27 during lights on and closer to 22 when they are off. Smell of the plant is getting significant despite no flowers yet, every time I open the door I am greeted with a fairly strong green smell. I do wonder what it will be like when flowering is happening...
I currently have 7 or 9 potential flower sites and more are coming, I'm not actually sure I'll switch to flowering by end of this week as I originally planned, we'll see how the plant has grown by the end of it. I still have plenty of horizontal space left.
On day 4 I removed a few leaves that were hiding some growths, I hope they'll start growing better now. I'm also thinking of manifolding the center growth, it sort of grows slowly though it is full of branching points...
Day 5, the plant didn't mind the removal of some of the leaves at all. I removed a few more soon since I've sculpted the plant into a low and sort of dense bush where there's a bit of a light issue on stuff that gets buried. Next time I'll begin supplements earlier and LST later, it should help with the denseness.
Day 6 is a quiet one, I only watered the plant and that's about it.
Day 7 I removed the bamboo stick based LST supports since there was some mold on them at the part where they went inside the soil. The few hours the plant was without supports it got several cm higher lol. I now have the LST wires tied to the pot itself and I should have done it that way from start. There's over 10 possible bud sites now and in a few days I'll remove some leaves to get more light for some of the hidden ones. I'm still unsure if I should switch to 12/12 this week or not...
Next week updates will come in some days so that there's more to see lol
Seems an update happened when week is over rather than middle of it lol. This is the last vegetative week, today (start of the new week) I switch to 12/12 cycle and begin flowering stage !
This week was very quiet, plant was growing slowly and I did more and more leaves removal while adjust the LST ties. I have been removing the leaves that obscure the middle of the plant and to make more room for light reaching new split points where new stems can grow out of.
Watering quantity has increased to some 0.75 liters, poured on over the span of the day. Blueberry mix is still doing wonders, the plant is very healty and removal of the leaves I'm doing has no sort of effect on its growth lol.
Every time I open the door of the grow chamber I am greeted with fairly strong smell, and I know it'll only get bigger lol. Air filtering setup I made seems to work pretty well, there's nothing to smell when the chamber is closed. Temperatures seem to stay pretty stable too, getting near +28 when lights are on, and dropping to +22 when off. Plant seems to grow better when the temp is on the higher side, at least compared to +26 that I had previously.
Part of me wants to continue the veg state but this time earlier harvest will win even though I can probably get more out this plant otherwise, there's still 3 more seeds left lol.
First week of flowering stage ! Plant seems to have started to grow even faster now and I have been adjusting LST ties every day and also removing leaves from obscuring the middle of the plant. I am seeing some 11 finger leaves now too, I didn't think there are that many of them hahahaha.
Overall this has been a very quiet week, nothing much happens other than me watering the plant every day, still using the same mixture as I have so far using the recommended 4ml/l as written on the package. I will have use for that bottle for a long while, it is a whole liter and I am only gonna use up few tens of ml of it in the end hahaha. It was pretty cheap too so that's even better lol.
Smell of the plant has got stronger, I might have to do better sealing on the door because I think I smell the plant a little when I get near the grow box. I say I think because I'm not actually sure I do as when I get closer I no longer smell it... I certainly cannot smell anything on the filter exhaust.
Onto the next week !
Week 8 has also been very quiet, I have done some leaf removal to make more light for stuff in the middle and also saw the first signs of flowers.
I managed to overwater the plant after a long while, leaves drooped very quickly after that watering but recovered in a few hours. I have lowered the watering amount a bit but I still water every day.
By end of the week most of the growth points have pistils visible :D
I hope to see something that is undeniably flowers looking in some weeks ~
Another week has reached its end and like previous one it has been quite quiet but with some nice sights to behold :D
Heidi has been growing quite a lot and the flowers are also getting bigger with each day ~
I hope to see some nice things by end of the month and maaaybe there's something to try on 420 next month hahahahahaha
We have a whole lot of photos this week, some nice closeups and also some general photos of the growing environment. I took a few high res photos also, with a magnifying glass I should be able to see trichomes pretty well, that's something I'll have to experiment with later.
Onto the next week ~
Week 10 has been also pretty quiet, plant has been slowly growing and wanting more water than before.
I did notice one day that one flower had couple brown spots on the pistils but it seems those are because of rough handling. No other flower has them and there are no male bits anywhere either. Other flowers are fine and all are getting bigger with each day ~
I have killed couple small black insects during this week. Chances are they are little mosqito things whole larva will eat roots... that would be sort of really shitty. I'm not sure what I can do against them, other than letting the soil dry out for a bit.
I'm pretty happy that it seems like there will be some buds to nip by 420 next month lol. I have been keeping some small flower sites in the middle of the plant just for testing purposes lol.
Anyway onto week 11 !
Another quiet week. Time has flown by really quickly. I have only nipped a few leaves this week and those will be last leaves I remove since all new ones have little crystals on them that I will not want to just toss away lol.
I am noticing nutrient burn, or what I think it is, there's yellowed or browned tips on many leaves so I am now doing plain water for a few days, which hopefully gets rid of that problem.
There's more and more trichomes, I cannot wait to set them to fire or put them into space cakes LOL.
I will nip a bud from the middle of the bush by end of next week for some sampling purposes :3c
This week was also quiet, the plant growth has slowed down a lot though and probably because of the nutrient burn that was happening.
I flushed the soil and have been giving the plant plain water right now, I'll add small amount of nutrients to the water in coming week probably.
I took a lot of closeup shots of the trichomes but it isn't easy to see what state they are in lol. Some look completely clear, some look milkyish and if I use a magnifying glass things look undeterminate lol. Anyway there's some good shots to look at if anything hahahaha
All flowers have pilstils that have browned in parts not just the few in beginning... I imagine it is also linked to the nutrient burn. Next time I know that I have to use less nutrients or perhaps proper ones.
I will nip a bud from the middle, dry it and try it, hopefully with good result ~
Week 13 has ended today and it was yet another quiet week.
"Try and dry" from last week was successful, the effects were pretty good from the tiny amount I had although what is written online is true. That schit must be dried and cured properly. It didn't taste or smell like normal greens at all, just 1 day of quick drying in a dehydrator lol. I got a bit over 2 hours of nice body effects and a bit of mind stuff from the little amount I had, normally I barely get 1 hour worth of effects from a larger amount lol.
Nutrient burn seems to be in check, the tips haven't been getting worse and all the leaves grow few mm each day. I now water with half the amount of nutrients too, which hopefully is good enough.
I will nip another tiny bud from the middle of the plant, and this time give it a longer drying. I expect stronger buzz this time since there's been one more week of growth and maturing. In some weeks we should be reaching the end ~
Week 14 is over, and it was also quiet. I have reduced nutrients during first half of the week and by the end I have started to use just water since harvest is not so far away, good time to do the flushing process.
I have tried the plant one more time and the effects weren't significantly different. Longer drying definitely helped but proper curing is gonna be essential to have proper greens smell and taste lol. I will nip another small bud from the middle in a few days and try it again.
I did tuck some leaves down to give the flowers more light and removed a few old leaves altogether. The leaves on flowers were growing few mm every day but by end of the week the growth seems to have stopped on the leaves, the flowers seem to be getting fatter though and the branches are sort of spreading out from the weight which is most welcome to see ~
I need some smaller and more round lens to get better closeups that aren't so milky looking. Flash going into edge of my big lens isn't helping either but overall I'm happy with the results I can get ~
Onto week 15 ~
Another week has passed and again nothing remarkable has happened.
I haven't used nutrients in any big capacity anymore, and I think it has shown in the last time I tried a bud which was smelling and mostly tasting like what greens are supposed to ! Effects were quite substantial too, much stronger that last 2 times.
Flowers are pretty smelly and quite sticky, every time I open the grow box I'm greeted with a pretty nice smell. My ghetto filter works pretty well at least, nothing is felt outside the box though it is fairly noisy. Making it less noisy results in overheating in the box since lamps are main source of heat in there. I'm not sure how things would work out during summer when it can get pretty warm during daytime...
Harvest definitely isn't gonna happen this week, maybe next instead lol. Flowers have been getting slightly bigger with every day and there's still clear pisils everywhere and not a sign of any browned ones.
Another quiet week passed, with not so quiet weeked when 420 got celebrated lol. Heidi delivers, she's really great :D
The smell from grinder was wonderful but it sort of clogged it up with the stickyness lol. A lot of resin, and a lot of fun ~
She has grown a little more, with flowers getting fatter. No sign of any brown trichomes yet but most/all have turned cloudy by now. I will be trying another bud this weekend and no doubt the results will be great like last times ~
I'm not sure when harvest will happen, perhaps next week ? Let's see what week 17 will bring !
Week 17 is now over. This is the very last week of Heidi's life, she is gonna go through severe surgery in coming days since there hasn't been any significant change in growth or strength of the effects. Heidi has delivered really well so far, I'm most happy with her and there's 3 more seeds, for 3 more sisters hahahahaha
Smoking tests have been most positive, even with few days of just drying the plant is wonderful. More than 2 hours of very nice buzz in mind and body and I always see some lovely dreams during the night.
Next plant will get bigger pot, more lights and maybe specific nutrients for the species rather than something made for blueberries of all things, though it did help massively. I also now know exactly what to expect and how to deal with variety of issues, experience has been great ~
Next update will show photos of harvest and some additional photos of drying process. Over time it gets updated to include some curing process photos and more info about smoke or space cake tests lol.
Maybe this place gets updated to show additional week types that I suggested one time, such as harvest, curing etc. which would be most awesome ~
Harvest was sort of a PITA, it took a while for me and my friend to get things done and it was just a small plant. I cannot imagine how much effort will commercial scale of things take, there's a bazillion buds to deal with...
Roughly 2/3 of the harvest went to my friend who bought the seeds and helped with various supplies to make the grow box etc.
I got 144 grams of wet buds off the plant and 40 grams of clippings. Drying has taken about a week and I got total of 28 grams of bud and 11 grams of leaves. Leaves will be turned into cannabutter and that gets used for making space cakes :D
There's about 3.5 grams of stems left over, it is amazing how much weight these twigs can hold...
In the coming month curing will be over and I hope to get some lovely taste and smell and even nicer body and mind effects ~
