I am starting my 2nd grow! I am part way through my 1st grow of White Widow, and I am starting to veg 5 Chromatose plants from Exotic Genetix. I had a huge amount of trouble germinating these seeds, I think they must have been old or stored incorrectly, because out of 11 in the pack, I was only able to get 5 sprouts. The larger plant was germinated earlier, but all the others failed so I had to re-germinate, so thats why one of them is larger.
The best method I found for sprouting these older seeds was to soak in very diluted hydrogen peroxide for a couple of minutes, then place in plastic bag with a moist paper towel with RO water. I kept them in a warm place, with a little bit of light and all 4 germinated within 48 hours.
Anyways, I will be vegging these under some fluorescent shop lights, 45W each. They are currently under a cloning dome because I have not gotten a tent for them yet, but soon I will have them in a tent. I have them in solo cups, with my mix of soil including: Fox Farms Ocean Forrest, Purple Cow compost, worm castings, perlite, organic seedling fertilizer, azomite, mycorrhizae. I will be watering with only RO water, and occasionally compost tea. I look forward to this grow!
This week has been uneventful for these plants. They are quite stunted, but are starting to pick up some speed in growth. I have ordered more lights for them so I hope that will help. #5 nearly died, but I think it is slowly recovering. I moved these plants to a new tent and added fans to strengthen the stems a bit. I am watering with RO water when dry, which seems to be more often recently. I am hoping all of them pull through!
This week I topped the largest plant. I have been hoping that the other plants will catch up, and I am going to keep them all in solo cups until they do so. I will top them all at around 5 nodes. I will also start LST soon.
The other seedlings are growing, but not as quickly as expected. I am hoping for them to catch up with #1, who now seems to be very droopy. I would guess she is rootbound, but I am not sure how to keep her happy until transplant. I will increase the light intensity, and hopefully soon I will be able to transplant these into 3 gal pots for!
They are coming along, still waiting for them to catch up to the largest one. They will be transplanted into 3 gal pots at that time and finish veg with some training.
I'm just going to pretend like the past couple weeks didn't happen since I had these plants in solo cups stagnant and not very happy. I have changed my setup a bit, and transplanted these into 3gal pots. I used my soil mix with roots organic and a bunch of organic amendments, including 2-2-2 down to earth fertilizer. I may have over done it with the bat guano, looks like they have some nitrogen toxicity but other than that they are looking great! I topped them all at different times, so some are slightly taller than others. I was able to get two of them to start 3 leading branches. One of them is quite stunted, but I hope it catches up while they wait to go to the other tent. Once I am done drying my other plants these will move into that tent and spread their legs. I removed all leaves below the top, I am going to try my hardest to train these to grow in an even canopy. I also just planted clover on the soil to keep it moist and it looks like they are starting to sprout as well!
This week I tied them down in anticipation of moving them to the flower tent. I plant on cloning them once I move them over, letting them recover for a couple of days and then switching to flower! I accidentally broke one of the branches during my LST, so i guess it was unintentional HST so well see how that goes. They all look relatively healthy and happy in the new pots. I think theyll do great in the flower tent once I move them.
I moved them to the flower tent to adjust to the bigger lights before flower. Im gonna hang up a trellis and start these plants in flower within the next week or two, once all have bounced back from topping. I am thinking 2 are males and 3 are females, but it may be too early to tell.
Decided to skip a couple weeks since I was away and didn't take many pictures. This week I switched to flower! For the past couple weeks I have been training them, topping a couple times and defoliating lower branches. Plants started showing sex and I discovered I was right with 3 female, 2 male and I eliminated the male plants. I am pretty happy with the structure of the plants and the canopy. I prepared a flower compost tea for the day I switched to 12/12. I included organic fertilizer, compost, worm castings, azomite, liquid seaweed, molasses, and URB. I top dress the soil with the remaining compost and fertilizer, and water the plants with the compost tea directly. This mix has worked pretty well for me in the past and seems to be relatively strong, they seemed to love it!
In the days since the switch to 12/12 they have stretched a lot. Especially the plant on the right, which also seems to be the least healthy plant. This plant is easily 10in taller than the other two and it is becoming sort of an issue. I had to raise the light quite a bit and it is about as high as it can go so I hope it doesn't stretch much more.
Other than that they seem very happy, and things are going smoothly. They already smell amazing, so I am looking forward to seeing the buds on these!
These are coming along well! They are very happy and are growing vigorously. They started developing lots of pistils over the past couple days and they look super healthy. I have been watering heavily and they are soaking it up. The far right plant is still much taller than the others but not much I can do about it at this point. Thankfully it seems like they have stopped stretching for the most part. Hopefully all their energy will go to making big buds in the coming weeks!
These plants are doing well for the most part! The middle plant did not like being left for a couple days without water. I think the tent must have gotten hot, or something else happened because the center plant immediately showed yellow leaves, and a dark almost black pattern on some of the leaves. Doesnt look similar to any deficiencies, not 100% sure why only that plant displayed this either. I watered very heavily when I returned to try to bounce her back. Other two plants seem happy. Starting to see swelling of the buds and some trichome production on the fan leaves. They are starting to smell better every day. Super earthy, hashy smelling plant. They seem to have stopped stretching so I hope all their energy will go towards buds now!
Unfortunately the middle plant continues to give me trouble. I have tried multiple things to help it out. I tried not watering for 2 days, then feeding with compost tea. The other two plants enjoyed this but the middle plant showed now difference. It barley even drank the compost tea I fed it, took very long time to absorb. It continues to get yellower every day. I think at this point even if I got it to bounce back, the bud wouldn't be quality at all. I am going to kill the plant and spread out the other two to give them more light coverage so I hopefully get a larger yield from the two remaining.
So I killed the middle plant since it was past the point of saving. I am guessing that it either had some bad nutrient lockout, or somehow that plant was hungry for a certain nutrient? Calcium, magnesium, phosphorus are my guesses, but I dont understand why only the middle plant started showing sings so quickly. Either way it happened very suddenly and I was not able to help it in time with any amendments.
Now what I was worried about is happening. The other plants are showing the same signs. Not as drastically but I dont want to lose all 3 plants! I am going to buy some epsom salts and phosphorus amendments and see what I can do.
I am very worried about these plants, but I think that the amendments have slowed down the issues. Their leaves have yellowed and purpled significantly. Mostly the right plant but the left one. Thankfully I was able to slow it down and they are still growing. I see new white pistils and they are starting to swell and smell a bit more. I fed them epsom salts twice this week, about 1tbsp in a gallon of water each time. I also top dressed with rock phosphate and have been trying to water that in. I am aware this is not the most mobile nutrient, but its all I could get at the store so it will have to do for now. Let me know if there are any suggestions you have for what I have been dealing with! Any advice is appreciated!!
Have been watering with plain RO water. The yellowing seems to have stopped but it also seems like its too late to reverse all the damage/for the plant to make new leaves. I think I will just keep watering them and let them finish up. This is not my ideal outcome but I think the buds still seem to be swelling so I believe the buds will be quality.
Still just watering with plain RO water. They seem to be finishing up, trichomes are slowly turning cloudy. They smell amazing. I am worried all the leaves will die prior to harvest though. I think its too late for another compost tea, but we will see. The plant on the left smells like straight mango, and the one on the right has a musky cheesy smell. Super excited to try both out.
Still on autopilot, feeding with RO water regularly. They are coming very close, most of the trichomes on the right plant are cloudy, while some on the left are still clear. I will wait a week or two longer but I am becoming impatient! This strain is also supposed to be a very heavy indica, so I will err on the side of harvesting earlier rather than later. The leaves also seem to be dying, and I want to avoid what happened with my last harvest. I had many dead leaves and it was very hard to trim off.
Leaves are really starting to die, I want to harvest next week whenever I am available. I probably should have given these plants more nutrients prior to havest, but I would rather not overload at the end. I have learned what to pay attention to in my next grow! I plan on plunging them into dark for 24-48hrs prior to harvest.
Finally harvested these plants, let them dry for 3-4 days, and trimmed them. I let them dry a little less than normal to ensure I didn't over dry like last time. The higher humidity also allows for better flower rosin, and it seems to have worked very well. So far I have just been burping the jars, and pressing as much rosin as I can. I plan to press 50-60% of my final yield into rosin, so I will end up with 125g of flower, and 35g of rosin.
I haven't smoked any of the flower, but I have tried the rosin and the effects are amazing. Extremely heavy body effects, but the mental effects of a sativa. Although this is indica leaning, it is also good for the daytime when you're listening to music or watching a movie. Both phenos have similar effects, but the flavors are very distinct.
I have learned a lot during this grow, and will hopefully have a more successful next grow. I am very proud that I was able to exceed my last yield, even with losing 1 of my plants half way through flower. I believe that my next yield will be even greater and hopefully I will have a more smooth grow.
