This is my second outdoor run of these seeds that I scored in several eighths from a rec store.
Last year, I found it to be a hardy, beautiful plant and a pleasure to grow. It was very bountiful. I added a couple pictures of one of my plants from the last night before harvest last year.
My research shows that the strain Lifted uses was sourced from J-Beezy of Seed Junky Genetics.
And she’s off! Lifted’s wedding cake from Seed Junky. Pretty sure these seeds are feminized. I planted 4 last year and all 4 were females. I did notice 2 distinct phenols in the seeds I grew last year. Interested to see what this one does. Weird how the seed shell ripped off part of the dummy leaf when it came off. Not too worried. I’m sure it will be fine.
Best stroke of fortune I ever had was finding fifteen of these seeds in a couple rec store purchases. I grew four plants from seed last year. All four were female and I ended up with two very distinct phenotypes. Two grew into large bushy trees with an abundance of foliage, and two stayed pretty squat with uniform growth. One of the smaller ones was decimated by bud worms, the other one produced a decent amount of beautiful compact buds. But the two large ones produced over a pound each of huge DENSE, frost covered colas.
I’m excited to see how this one goes, especially growing alongside the WC variety from another grower. Already, this strain is twice as tall as all my other seedlings, which makes me feel like there’s a pretty good shot it could be the larger pheno. Because I went 4/4 with females last year, I think it’s feminized. But, I’m half hoping it’s a male. If it is, I’ll crack another one ASAP and hope it’s a female to make some seed stock of this badass strain.
Well... I had been growing these in a local biosolids medium. Should of researched that earlier 😭 While there are folks who grow in it, it’s not my jam. To many questions unanswered. So...
I did an emergency, bare root transplant to an organic soil! I definitely ripped some of the more fragile lateral roots in the process, so I decided to go ahead and top and do a major pruning to cut down the amount of foliage they have to feed. I figure they’ll either make it or they will not.
Time will tell...
Day 21
After an emergency bare root transplant from a biosolids medium to organic soil, there’s a glimmer of hope for my photoperoiod plants🙏
They got topped and pruned yesterday. a little earlier than I would have liked, but it made sense.
Day 23
Transplanted again down to 2 gallon pots to make room for another round I started. I decided to cut the fan leaves, too. These have been pruned and topped down to nothing but the emerging foilage from the 3rd and 4th nodes. My thinking is that the root system is so compromised that the less foliage they have to feed, the better. Fed some General Organics Bio Root 0-1-1 to promote root growth. Light mnist of pH’d water for foilar feeding.
Day 25
I think the Bio Root and the shade is doing them good 🤞Time will tell. If these come back strong, I’ll move them into 15 gallon living soil bags.
Really taking off! I’m excited to see how these do after the hellacious transplant. They’re just getting regular water with no pH adjustment. Bubbling tap water for 24 hours. Going with the living soil thing. We will see. Looks good so far. Will probably transplant to my 15 gallon bags and my super soil mix this week as roots are starting to show on the bottom holes.
I Transplanted to 15 gallon bags in the middle of the week last week. They’re in the super soil mix I made and have been fermenting for a month now! Added some great white to the soil where transplanted. Been a few days and they love it.
Still feeding regular tap water bubbled overnight.
Prime time growing right now. I think the combo of the weather and the roots reaching the super soil has inspired some vigorous growth.
Definitely noticed some thrip an/or leaf hopper damage to a leaf or two on 4 plants. I’ve spotted 4 thrips and 2 leaf hoppers across all of the plants this week, although the overall damage throughout the greenhouse would suggest that there are more (even still, the damage is not that bad. The Wedding Cake all show the least amount of damage none to next to nothing.
Fed them a bunch of beneficial nematodes and did 2 nights of spinosad followed by three nights of neem, and then one more night of spinosad. Hopefully that gets things back in check.
I’ll be feeding a compost tea tomorrow morning.
Removed some of the straw top covering since the weather has cooled back down.
Daylight hours are disappearing quick! Not sure of the sex, but last year this seed stock produced 4 females from 4 seeds, so i feel pretty good that it’s feminized. Unknown though since the seeds came from a rec store purchase.
Had some severe drooping on one side of the plant. It was kind of weird, but most likely nothing.
I was under watering quite a bit in an attempt to make sure I didn’t flush out the benes and nutrients of the super soil. Ironically, I might have killed all the benes. Lol.
Either way, they’re getting about 2.5 gal every other day now. Growing strong.
Untied the LST ties to move them and rearrange the greenhouse. Going to leave them untied. I hate having to water around the ties 😭
Just did another spinosad treatment. Haven’t seen any more thrips since the first treatment 10 or so days ago. Saw a leaf hopper in there though 😡
All plants are responding well to the increase in water. I’m up to 2 gallons with this one every 2-3 days, depending on weather. It’s definitely starting to cool off and the days are getting shorter... About half an hour less light each week. Probably about 3 weeks before solid 12/12 This strain is slow to start flower, needs solid 12/12, but once it does, it goes quick. It’s starting to form bud sites, but still hasn’t shown any pistils yet, at all.
Early in the week I did an AACT tea. I didn’t know what I was doing (still don’t, but I’m learning). I most likely made it too complex and put every amendment I had on hand in the bag. Not sure of whether it had any microbial benefits or effect.
I followed that up with another nematode watering and I can definitely say it has had a major effect. Between the nematodes and the yellow sticky traps, there’s hardly a fungus gnat to be seen.
I topdressed yesterday with a mix of super soil, powdered oats, high P seabird guano, EWC, azomite, humic acid, alfalfa meal, and kelp meal.
This is the best looking of the topped 4-ways. But that’s no surprise, this string of Wedding Cake is hardy and resilient.
It will need a feed soon as shown by the autos in 1 gallon pots. The AACT is really just a bacterial and microbial introduction. I won’t make it so complex next time. Just EWC and molasses from here on out. The topdress will probably take a little bit to break down, so I‘ll do a simple nutrient tea with alfalfa or fish hydrolysate in the next couple days. Hopefully that helps out. Other than that, it looks pretty good. I’m interested to see how this one fills out.
This strain of wedding cake is a little slow to start flower, but it finishes strong and quick. Last year, it did something similar: stretch was in late August, but pistils did not show until the first week of September. I did tarp it starting the first week of September, but I harvested on October 17, so about 7 weeks to finish. Not going to tarp this year because I want the autos in here to get as much light as possible. So we will see what it does without the tarp!
Did a wee bit of defoliation and additional LST to spread it out some.
Did a feed with Neptune’s Harvest Fish and Kelp Hydrolysate 2-3-1 at beginning of the week, straight water mid week and ended with a Neptune’s Harvest Fish Hydrolysate 2-4-1. This is on top of the P heavy phosphorus top dressing I added a couple weeks ago that is definitely starting to break down.
Alternating fresh water and 1 Tbs of King Neptune’s Fish Hydrolysate per gallon. Did some molasses last watering. Pushing along. Buds are starting to form nicely.
Posting these a bit late. I developed a bit of a fungus gnat issue that I think got a bit out of control and the larva were definitely stunting all the plants, some more than others. I did a nematode release and OG Biowar Foliar Pack the next week. I’ll post results in the next week.
Had one branch hermie. Hope I got it in time 🙏
Moving along. Battling a couple teeny tiny PM outbreaks. Changed the set up to put the dehumidifier and heater closer to the intakes. Defoliate quite a bit, added an oscillating fan and spread things out. Seems to be all clear.
Found spider mites on one leaf of this one. Haven’t seen anything since removing the leaf and treating with OG Biowar foliar spray at full strength. Also two soil drenches at full strength.
