Brown spots and holes

Amandus
Amandusstarted grow question 2 years ago
Had snails and aphids earlier, but knocked them out. I'm these brown spots / holes in my girl. Don't think they're the snails and don't see any bugs.... been rainy and fairly cool, 60-70F. PH is currently high at 6.9. Any thoughts or recommendations for a mostly clueless newbie?

The holes are definitely some bug having lunch at your expense... probably a catepillar of some kind. I use BT spray which is pretty effective at keeping them (and other chewing pests) away.. it's organic so it can be used up until harvest ... but it would have to be reapplied after a rain. The catepillars take one bite and they hate it so they go somewhere else for their dinner. You could also try Dr. Zymes Eliminator which will take care of a whole host of pests. It, too, is organic and can be used up to harvest with no problems. The yellow spots are probably from your use of vinegar earlier... if they continue and you notice more of them, then you're probably dealing with a calcium deficiency. I'm unfamiliar with your nutes but a dose of calmag would not go amiss... Good luck!

Thanks, as always @GrowingGrannie. I am, I suppose, happy to hear it is a bug rather than nute burn, as that limits my concerns. Appreciate the spray suggestions -- neither one available locally, but I'll check the ingredients and grab something similar.

Lens effect is more for indoor grows where you have a high ppfd. As for the brown spots my guess is either a fungus ( get damp paper towel and see if it wipes onto it ) if it does then it's most likely spores that wiped off. If not it could be the starting of a calcium deficiency.

@GrowCN -- this is where I was leaning towards. I'm in northern Europe and while the sun is up quite a bit, it's been cloudy and rainy and I did start a new regimen of fertilizer. The ph is also up, which made me think this could be the culprit. Just not sure if these are symptoms matching a fertilizer 'burn.' No pesticides used, learned my lesson when I tried to kill aphids with a mild vinegar solution only to destroy several fan leaves (a mistake she recovered from!).

Lens effect, umm, don't outdoor grows have defence from that developed from growing with UV?

I have been growing both indoors and outside for decades. All types of plants, trees, flowers, herbs, fruits and vegetables and I have never had plants damaged by the lens affect. I water outside in the hottest summer sun with no ill affect. Theoretically I understand how it could happen but when you consider that plants all over the planet exist with full sun and water on their leaves and receive no damage it's pretty clear that it's not really an issue. I think spot burning is more possible when applying treatments whether it be fertilizer, herbicides or pesticides where there are chemicals that can burn the plant.

The brown spot(previous message). Anyway the holes are made by grasshopper, it's green and 1.5cm, it's impossible to see due his camouflage ahahaha

I'm 99% sure that is a "lens effect" due the rain, the concentrated sunlight burned the leaves

Looks like mites in leaves, use an appropriate spray, all the way through, they are microscopic and hitch a lift on visitors to your plants. Part of the joy of outdoor growing. May be wrong, but I'm not an " expert "
