These two things are likely related but not guaranteed to be correlated. Pictures would be helpful because there are multiple distinct phenomenon that can lead to 'rust spots' on the leaves (ranging from mold infestations to nutrient issues to medium issues, arguably even pests). The location of the leaves, the spread, the coloration, the texture, and so forth would all be good qualitative information to include when digging into a leaf issue.
