This week was awesome! It was my first time ever growing and I am using a Stealth Box.
I was anxious all week checking on my plants every few hours to make sure things were moist and humid. Seeing this growth for the first time ever was really cool.
I used a cup of Evian Spring Water at room temperature for 14 hours or until I could poke the seeds and they would sink, putting the cup into the dark Stealth Box.
Then moved them to wet paper towel and inside of the seedling dome with dome on, I kept them in the dark Stealth Box for 2 days until taproots were 1cm.
After the taproots were ready I moved them into small planters inside of the seedling dome and kept the soil quite moist, continuing to use the seedling dome cover.
The plants look healthy to me, but I'm new to this, any comments welcome!
I tried to germinate 5 seeds but only 4 of them successfully germinated and sprouted.
Overall, I'm really happy with the results of this week and excited to watch my 4 plants grow. Next time I germinate it will be a lot less stressful now that I have the feel for it. 😀
I've been reading up on the coming weeks and I'm feeling a bit of information overload, there is too many options and recommendations out there. I think for this first grow I will try to keep things quite simple.
Fun week! Satisfied with results so far.
Now on 18-6 lighting.
On Day 10 I ran into a bit of leaf burn on one of the seedlings, not sure what caused it.
On Day 12 I had to leave for 2 days, so I put them in bigger pots on Day 11 and gave them a good water on the morning of Day 12.
I returned home on Day 14 to see lots of new growth and was very happy the plants were not dead!
One of the plants is oddly deformed compared to the rest, it's been growing that way the entire time, not sure if something is wrong with it.
Smooth week and the plants are looking great I think!
The deformed plant is getting a lot of new healthy growth.
On another plant, I ripped one leaf by accident when watering, it seems alright though.
This week I did find some green algae like growth on the dirt, I broke it up and let it dry out, seems to be fine now.
Really interesting to see how fast things are moving now and to see some of the undergrowth!
Next week I'm looking to swap the plants into their final cloth pots.
Smooth week! Moved the plants into their forever home (cloth pots).
Next time I will go straight from seedling tray to these pots.
I used some Gaia Green All Purpose 4-4-4 (2 tbsp per pot) when transplanting.
Next step is to top the plant, haven't decided if I'm going to top it once or twice yet.
Also need to start thinking about LST but I'm not sure how to approach this quite yet, it might become more clear after topping.
Any tips or advice please let me know!
Smooth week! My first time topping, I was told I maybe took a bit too much off, but the plants recovered quite well.
Next time around I would top earlier, I planned to top twice but I do not think I have enough room in my grow box left to risk it.
After topping I did a lot of leaf tucking to expose the new growth tips, but didn't require any garden wire or tying things down.
I ended up flipping to flower (12-12) on day 33 (from seed), looking back I would have waited a few more days for a tiny bit more growth, but again I was worried I might run out of room as I'm not sure how much they will stretch in flower.
It's been a few days since flipping to flower and things seem to be going fine.
My growth is up to the SCROG net now and I can start to begin tucking / weaving growth.
Thinking I need to defoliate soon but I will wait until a bit more into flower and slowly pick away at leaves lower than 50% of the canopy.
I'm seeing a tiny bit of yellowing on some leaves which could be magnesium deficiency, going to try a bit of epsom salt in water (teaspoon per litre) and use some as a foliar spray as well.
I'm also going to top dress with some Power Bloom (2-8-4) next week, however I need to get my hands on some more soil (lockdown issues) or work with what is already in there, although it's already lower than it should be.
Any tips or advice please let me know! 😁
Smooth week! Expected to see more "flowering" but hoping I notice signs next week.
On day 36 I top dressed with Gaia Green Power Bloom 2-8-4 @ 1.5tsp per gallon, I also defoliated and changed location of each plant.
I've been defoliating but it's not doing much, it still looks like a jungle, I'm not sure if I need to go more aggressive on it or if things look ok.
One day I decided to do a foliar spray of epsom salt with water and it left a residue on my leaves, I washed off the next day with a foliar spray of water only.
Switched from watering can to a Chapin sprayer, it's much, much easier to get to the back plants! Highly recommend.
Getting a little worried about the growth height now, after 10 days of flowering it's really stretching a lot.
The plants blasted through the ScrOG net and I didn't get much time to utilize it, I mostly used it to position the tops of the colas, but next time I think I would be more aggressive with the ScrOG.
Any tips or advice please let me know in the comments!
Pretty regular week!
On day 45 I had enough of the leaves and did a big defoliation, next time I would do it in more chunks but it was long overdue.
Some white hairs showing by end of week.
Getting dangerously close to light, I flipped to flower far too late for this box and strain.
I also am feeling the effects of not using the scrog correctly, next time I'm going to use more of a net, my growth blew by it.
Learn from my mistakes!
This was the sketchiest week so far.
As mentioned I flipped to flower way too late and my stretch was more than I expected.
I wasn't sure how much I would bend and tuck without breaking and let things go too far.
Some of my main colas were eventually touching the light and got burned very bad.
I had to cut off some of the best bud sites which is going to hurt the yield a lot.
Next time I will be training, topping and scroging much more aggressively also flipping to flower much earlier.
I spent some time with garden wire and tried to pull the plants down as much as I could.
I've also now been weaving and tucking things underneath one another, etc.
I feel I'm still a bit too close to the light but there is not much I can do now.
The plants are drinking a ton of water and I wish I had a bit more dirt to add as it's not full enough, however my garden store is closed in lockdown.
Next time I will buy 2 bags to be on the safe side.
I've learned a ton so far this grow and now I'm so excited for my next!
The plants are not dead yet and seem to be flowering so I can't complain for my first grow!
Hope my diary helps someone else who is using a smaller stealth box for their first grow.
Any tips or advice please let me know!
Somewhat normal week!
A lot of LST to make sure the top of the plants is not touching the lights.
Found out one of my plants was male, don't know how it took me so long to notice, it was clear as day.
Now I know what signs to look out for next time.
The male was very close to releasing pollen, so I'm lucky I caught it even if it was a close call.
Plants are starting to flower nicely.
I've hurt my yield with a lot of my mistakes but the plants are not dead yet!
So excited to see how the next few weeks go and really looking forward to my next grow!
