Hey folks and welcome to my 2021 outdoor grow diary! I hope you guys enjoy my upcoming posts and see how these ladies will end up by october!
Just to break down this years grow, I will be trying new grow techniques, as last year my plants turned out like bonsais, as always, organic grow using Promix HP and Gaia Green Organic Amendments, and watering with a mixture of molasses to feed the soil microbes.
So my pops got his hands on some "local growers" clones of Kings Kush cash crop, apparently it is an 80/20 Indica hybrid with a THC average of 14-23%, the smell is suppose to be like musky, peppery Kush and taste the same according to the guy that sold him the clones. Tho, I wouldn't rely on the sellers credibility, all I know is that the strain is mold resistant which is a must in the GTA and is a strong plant and has been doing well for my pops indoor grow so far. I will keep you guys updated on how his batch turns out.
So I got 4 of these clones ready by May 16th and transplanted them from a 1 gal to its final 15 gal fabric pots.
With that, I used Promix HP and amended the 15 gal with 2 cups of Gaia green all purpose 4-4-4 with approximately 1 cup of Gaia green power bloom and mixed well into each 15 gal pot. (About 70/30 ratio @4tbs/gal of the mixture)
After the transplant was completed, I started to water the plants with dechlorinated tap water pHed to 6.5 and gave each pot about 0.5gal each of water.
My plans for the next watering is to introduce blackstrap molasses at 1tbs/gal of water to start supercharging the dormant microbes in the soil!
I also have to add yellow sticky strips to keep an eye on pests such as fungus gnats and spray neem oil as a PM in the soil and plant.
Hey folks, as you can see, the ladies did not do well after the transplant. I have have burned the plants a bit by spraying them down with neem oil as a preventive maint. The next few days after spraying, it got really hot and I belive the spray left too much oil residue for the plants to transpire. Also to note that I did not take time to harden the plants.
As usal watered the plants every 2-3 days with pH and mixed with 1tsb per gal of molas. New growth is looking good. I also topped them also.
Hey folks,
Late update this week due to a big rain store we had last Friday. It called for 5mm of rain which equated to about 3.6L of water for each plant! A bit much for young plants with a small root system, but the good news is that the smart fabric pots did thier job to help dry out the soil.
Since our last update, I have topped and defoilaited the damaged leafs from my f$%# up last week. Girls are healthy and show no signs of slowing down. I also started some basic LST with 3D printed plastic clips! They work great and I will be modifying them a bit to provide me more angle selection. If you guys wanna know more about these clips please let me know.
Other than rotating the pots and doing some regular maintenance, everything looks good, gnat traps are up and so far there are no signs of them which I credit keeping the topsoil dry.
I have not water the plants and it is calling for rain tonight into Thursday, so it seems like mother nature is doing God's works of water my plants for me :).
I hope you guys enjoy the update, see you on the next one!
Hey folks, sorry for the late week update. Life happens haha. I finaly water the plants today with the usual 50mL of molassas to 5 gal of dechlorinated water. I topped the leading colas and defoliated the plant a little. Next update I will be top dressing with 2-3tbs of 70/30 4-4-4/2-8-4 gaia green mix. I will also be topping off of the soil levels. Plants are very bushy!
Hey guys, late into week 5 finally have some time to tend to the gals.
It's been almost a week since I last watered them. We had 2 thunderstorms roll in so that kept the ladies quenched but when i went to check them out today most of them were pretty dry.
Before I watered them, I topped off the soil level with some more promix hp and started our first topdressing. As usual 2tbs per gal @ 70/30 ratio of 444 to 284. I'm my case 21tbs to 9tbs.
After that I water them with 50mL of molassas in 5gal of dechlorinated water with each plant raking about 3L of water.
I also defoliated some under growth and to clean up the canopy to allow more light to penatrate prime grow sites.
Last week I noticed some fungus gnats flying around, so I put up yellow fly traps with bamboo skewers (best way imo). I also did a preventive maintenance and watered the girls last week with neem oil soil drench to kill off any larvae or eggs that may have been laid. So good so far, as the traps did not have many gnats on them.
Other than the usual pm items done, the ladies are taking off quite fast, so I need to stay ontop of things when I can!
Hope to see you on the next update!
Hey guys, late into week 6. We had a wind storm roll through and thrashed the crap out of the ladies, luckily nothing broken or bent thankfully. I was quite worried because they where droopy gor a few days after but I notice they started to recover on thier own. They are still not 100% yet.
Other than that last time I watered was Sunday. It's has been 5 days and the pots dried out nicely. Watered them with 50mL of molassas in 5gal of water pH to 6.1.
Topped the tallest branches to help the lower canopy to catch up. It's been 2 weeks and each branch I topped already have 4-5 nodes. Perfect timing.
Thanks for reading.
Hello again!
Into week 7+ ladies were very bushy so I decided to dive in and clear out the lower canopy and removed old leaves. As usual watering every 4-5 days and I have increased the amount of water to about 8L to each pot. They are drying out faster day by day. Still using 50mL of molassas to 5gal of water pH to 5.9 this time.
No issues to report.
See you on the next update!
Hey guys, Into week 8 and the ladies have bushed out considerably even after last week's defoliation! I will have to plan to defoiliate again this upcoming week!
The plants are doing well, I have not watered these plants since Monday of this week and we had 2 large t-storms roll through the past 2 days. I will be holding off watering since they got allot of rain water.
This comming week I will be planning to possibly top but mainly to start our 2nd round of amendments. Sticking to same formula of 2tsb per gal of 70/30 ratio 444 to 284.
I also found the holy grail of prevent maint for fungus gnats. This stuff I found at my ls call aquabac mosquito larvacide. Works great on gnat larvae. All you need is to use 1-2 tbs in a tea bag and let it soak in water for 24-48hr before watering. Hopfully it will prevent any fg infestation.
Have a good one guys and see you on the next update.
Hey guys, allot happened this week. Mid week on Wednesday I did a major heavy defoliation, she was very bush and allot of internode growth. I clean up everything and allowed more light pen. Also nipped any undesired off growths. Shaping how I want the plant to grow. Basically lollipoping.
As you can see I also started to install 4x 1/2 bamboo sticks to help support the plant once she gets bigger. I had problems last year late into flower and don't want to repeat same mistake.
I also amended the pots with 70/30 ratio of 444 to 284 @ 2tbs/gal.
Iv only water once in the past 7 days with the Aquabak. Not enough data to review the product. We will see.
Other than that we have had plentiful thunderstorms and have not required to water. Thanks to the felt pots, they did not get flooded with the amount of rain we got. Prolly 50-100mm worth of rain.
Thanks for updates. Enjoy the photos and vids
Hey guys, Into week 10. I have only water the ladies once since last update of the usual 50mL of molassas to 5gal of water pH to 6.2. Water each plant about 6-7L each. They are getting thirsty fast.
We had a few thunderstorms roll through the area and watered the shit out of the plants. So couldn't stick to a normal watering schedual.
Plants are very bushy! Flowering will start mid/late August so I have possibly 1-2 more times I can top the plant. There is a plan for next watering for another round of defoiliation and topping. We will see...
Hope you guys are enjoying the updates. Plant is comming along nicely!
Hey folks,
Into week 11 and mid week I decide to defoiliate, top, lst and hst the plants. They are very bushy. 2 weeks of veg and I stripped more than I did the first time! It's hard to keep her under control if I don't get to work on them everyday.
Again, mother nature has been watering our plants. Only had 1 chance to water the usual 50mL of moalass to 5 gal of water to support the microbes.
Plants bounced back pretty quick.
Hope you enjoy and we will see you on the next update.
Hey folks,
Into week 12, same as usual, plants have been going through another heatwave. They are doing alright. Performed another round of topdressing. Same as last time, 1.4tbs per gal of 444 to 0.6 tbs per gal of 284. Watered with molassas water pH between 6-6.8.
Hey folks, Into week 13, plants starting to see, I see single pistils on some of the plants. Looks like she will be going into flowering in the next few weeks.
Again, this plant is one of the most bushy plant I have ever worked on! The internodal spacing and grow is simply explosive; and to note, it's been hotter than hell the past 2 weeks. Seeing avg temps in the mid 30s. Plants took it well. Just had to stay ontop of watering.
So because of the bush factor I decided to defoiliate again this week. It's been almost averaging 2-3weeks for every defoiliation.
As usual, watering with molasses water pH between 6.0-6.9.
See you on the next update!
Hey guys into week 14. First week of flowering, plants are now showing signs of flowering!
Haven't done much to the plant other than some light lst and watering with 80mL/5gal of molassas to water now.
Nothing else much to report! See ya on the next update.
Hey guys,
Into week 15, plants have been hit with a brutal heat wave! Solid 35+ with Humidex hitting 40. Plants are showing signs of heat stress. There's nothing much I can do. I don't have the time or money to put up a shade.
Just been watering. Plants are uptaking 3-5L a day! It's been hot!
Need to defoilitate soon but waiting for Plants to bounce back from heat stress.
Thanks for reading see you on the next update.
Hey folks,
Late week 16 update.
Plants are flowering along nicely, bud structure looks interesting. No real smells yet from the ladies. This week I have made my last top dressing with 70/30 mix of power bloom to all purpose @ 2tsb/gal.
Other than that, some light defoiliation to keep the canopy in check.
Thanks for checking in!
Hey folks,
Into week 17, or 4th week of flower.
I can happily say that the ladies had a full recovery from the heat wave we had 2 weeks ago. Other than keeping on maintenance with selective defoliation and lst, watering when the ladies need watering but also slow upping the dosage of molassas which is full phosphorus!
This strain/pheno of kings kush is ridiculous.... it just bushy af. It's almost near impossible to keep up with the plants when thier @100%.
The smells of this plant are starting to show through, a brush of your hands through the plant leave a lemon, piney kush/herb scent. Absolutely fantastic so far.
Thanks for read. See you on the next update.
Hey folks, Into week 18, ladies are producing a wonderful dieselly, herb with a hint of fruit? Love it.
Ladies are just simply being watered with molasas mixed and going around doing selective defoiliation for time to time. Ladies are packing on size now, I belive the heat wave we had stunted the initial stretch. But they are packing on weight!
We also moved them to the part of the deck with more light. Hopfully they respond well to it.
See you on the next update! We are getting close to the finish line!
Hey folks, Into week 19, I had my umbrella failed during a storm and it took out one of my plants. Bent the main stem over and now I have it being supported by wires for the time being. Hope she recovers.
Other than that been fighting a good battle on the amount of rain we have been getting.
I say the plants will be chopped around mid Oct. Hopfully a bit earlier.
See you on the next update
Into week 20, ladies are putting on some weight and the smells comming off the plants are hard to pinpoint, the best I can come up with right now is a skunkey spearmint herb vibes!
As you can see in the photos I setup a temp shelter for the plants, it's calling for rain for the next 2-3 days and I want to avoid bud rot at all costs.
As of today the plants will only be watered with pure water. I am stopping the molasses supplements.
Plants are starting to change colour, I hope they have a nice fade soon.
2 more weeks maybe?lol
See you on the next update
Hey folks, Into week 21, ladies are putting on some weight, some of the branches are getting weighed down. As usual, watering and selective defoil. Getting close to 80% cloudy heads. We almost there. Maybe 1-2 more weeks until they come down!
This strain of Kings kush is a smelly one, I still can put my finger on the terp profile yet. Almost a kushy herby dank is all I can describe atm.
Growing these plants, I would suggest pruning every second node once you get her into flower since the bugs tend to push up against each other and may cause bud rot. Say ontop of defoliation and try to qork on them on a daily basis rather than lolipoping.
Another key thing is to keep rH in range during flower, I will recomend to set it to 40-50rh in flower. Also if you are growing outdoors, Be sure to cover them up during rain when in flowering, I uses a transparent tarp for the last 5 weeks of flower. Save my plants from 9 huge rain events during the last 5 weeks, my plants would of died from br.
This strain had some decent cold resistance also! She stay alive with with few events of temps getting down to 4 deg c.
