Early start seed on April 28 was dwarfed by five cold nights in mid-May.
Trying again now that it’s warmer out.
Update: Fast Buds has the best seeds. I’ve had various problems germinating seeds due to excess sodium in the water and other things, but the Six Shooter seeds germinated quickly and are very robust.
Fast Buds says that Six Shooter likes it hot which is good because we’re getting a week long heat wave here. Forecast is six days above 30 C with one day at 36 C and “feels like” 40 C. I’ll be misting them and try to provide some shade.
Have been topping back to 3rd or 4th node or fimming as plants get big enough (4 or 5 nodes).
June 29: Middle of heat wave...it’s 32C at 10 am and forecast to reach 36 C today. These are all time highs for this area. Misting plants and morning foliar spray (kelp, fish, WSC, Epsom salts, soap) to help deal with the stress of the high temperature.
Aug 1: this has been a good week for all the plants but a bit too hot last few days. Around 28 C which is hot but not as bad as a month ago (37 C for 3 days).
Aug 20: One smallish un-topped plant is mature and starting to pop some male flowers. Will harvest tomorrow morning.
Aug 22: harvested some tops as there is cold and rainy weather starting now. If weather was better they’d stay on the plant for at least another week.
Sep 6: continuing to harvest these for hash. These buds kind of foxtailed or puffed out during one of the heat waves but the Glue or Devil weren’t affected that way.
The timing of it makes me think it was the 30 C temperature but I guess it also could have been something in the nutrient mix at the wrong time.
Sep 11: some quite big buds but still not very firm. I don’t know if these will get harder but they are close to done.
These plants grew well enough but they seemed a bit vulnerable to temperature extremes. I love the piney smell and taste but I don’t think these are the best choice for my climate which is too cool at night for these plants.
