Welcome to my new diary! Well this one was not planned, but after one of my Strawberry Banana seeds failed to sprout, I tossed this one in to germinate, as it's supposedly a little faster than the Strawnana, so the two should work out harvesting near enough one another, despite the lost week. I don't really mind that the other seed failed, as it lets me try a different strain.

Fastbuds Forbidden Runtz
Totally new strain for me, though I've smoked a regular Runtz once before and enjoyed it, so I'm intrigued by this one. Here's the official FastBuds blurb:
"An Indica-dominant hybrid that can reach up to 130cm, skillfully selected and bred to offer growers of any level the top-quality traits that made its parents so popular in California; This high yielder can produce up to 550gr/m2 in just under 65 days, making it ideal for those who are looking for high-quality buds in a relatively short amount of time. You can expect a delightful and flavorful blend of aromas that thanks to the impressive 26% THC results in a cerebral high that hits you between the eyes and slowly turns into a strong corporal relaxation."
>> EQUIPMENT <<
I keep things pretty Lo-Fi:
3 Gallon Felt pot
Vitalink Calmag
Bio-Bizz Light Mix
Bio-Bizz Grow
Bio-Bizz Bloom
Bio-Bizz Alg-A-Mic
Fecida CR600 110w LED
Rhino Fan and Carbon Filter
I grow in an insulated grow tent in my back garden. It's not ideal, but needs must and the environment is pretty comfortable for plants now that I've straightened it all out and got it nicely dialled in.
>> GERMINATION TIMELINE <<
01/06 - Seed put in between two cotton pads, soaked in water and kept in between two bowls on a seedling heat mat.
02/06 - Taproot cracked well this morning and I left it another 6 hours or so to get a bit of length before putting it into the mud. Planted into soil with a taproot of about 1cm.
04/06 - Sprout is all popped up and ready to hit the tent!
Alright, here's hoping that this one grows with a bit more vigour and tears it up in order to catch a little bit of lost time from the Strawnana fail!
The sleepy first week is over, nothing too special happening just yet but she's grown with real strength and speed so far at least!
Day 6 - Height 2"
No nutrients or supplements at all, just spraying with plain water a couple times a day for the first couple of days, but now she's a little taller already, I've moved to the watering can, but really only watering about 1-2" around the sprout so as not to overwater. She has grown crazy fast, shooting nodes on the 4th day that already are a decent size. Weirdly it hasn't grown vertically hardly at all and although it's shooting nodes that got bigger, it's still small overall, so it's growing in a very odd way. I'm quietly confident with this one though.
Hopefully she'll continue to establish next week. I usually tend to not feed until Day 14 and start training about Day 14-18 but this one is flying up, so maybe that could change, though I'll probably still leave anything like that to late next week at the least.
Week 2 progressing and we're almost getting interesting at last!
Day 13 - Height 3"
This seedling is still quite interesting, I guess she slowed down quite a bit and I would say her progress is now about normal for Day 13. Still very low and stocky, but that's better than all tall and stretchy so I'll take it! No special care at all right now, just a touch of water around the stem. I'll probably start nutrients on the next watering and training later next week!
Day 18 - Height: 4"
I started LST on this one a little later than usual but it was staying so low and stocky that I wanted it to pull up a little more before I started bending it about. I have enough space to let them go a little more with this grow anyway, so I'm not too fussed if I can't strap them down too much before they start hitting stretch and getting a bit too woody to bend. I also started low doses of nutrients this week, just 1ml/l of grow and she seems to have been fine with that so I'll start ramping it up over the next couple of weeks whilst she gets ready to stretch and flower.
Welcome back to my Forbidden Runtz grow!
Day 23 - Height: 5"
Somewhat of a slow grower this one, she's stayed stocky and low from the start and doesn't seem to be stretching much just yet. I'm hoping over this week she will start launching up and packing on some size. I've been feeding quite lightly and I wonder if it n=might not need a touch more grow nutrients as the two first leaves are yellowing already, so this plant might turn out to be a little more hungry than other auto strains I've been growing recently. I'll keep an eye on her this week and see how she goes, but if the yellow gets worse I'll bump up the grow nutes during midweek. Otherwise, I'm not too worried about the size, she should go up this week, if she's still this small at the end of the week, then I might start stressing about that!
Day 26 - Height 5"
I did a little more LST just to stretch out some of the shoots and give each one a little space to breathe. Pre-flowers are showing so I don't want to do too much more and I'll let her go from here, but I thought it might help to bush her out a little and give her a better shape when she starts stretching up, which should be any day now...
Welcome back to the Runtz grow! Looks like we're heading into flower finally!
Day 32
I levelled out the canopy just a tiny bit this week, but now she's heading into flower the stems are starting to get a little woodier so I didn't do much, just spread it a little. Hopefully, she'll bush out and shoot up a little more over the next week as she's still quite stocky. Looking healthy though and taken to all the nutrients really well. I've been feeding quite lightly since the start but I will ramp up Bloom food over the next week. Since she's quite sparse in the foliage I've had no need to defoliate at all, which is nice.
Welcome back to Runtz!
Day 41
Things going well, this plant has stayed a little bit too low for my liking but it is nice and wide so should be okay! The buds are also quite light and airy still, though it is only day 41, so plenty of time for them to fatten up yet. The important thing is that it is growing nice and healthy and isn't showing any signs of deficiencies at all yet. I've switched the balance of nutrients over to Bloom now, and will slowly phase out Grow as the weeks crack on, but otherwise, nothing doing really. I might do some light defoliation early on next week but we shall see! Happy days!
Grow well! x
Day 52
The Runtz is looking great, I have to keep a close eye on it as it was sitting right next to my strawberry banana that I just had to chop due to budrot, so I want to make sure it hasn't spread but we should be okay. Entering the homestretch now though, as long as we keep the rot at bay, this plant looks strong and healthy for a real good finish! I'll start cutting back nutrients from next week I think, though I'll judge it for sure then, it should be about right.
Welcome back to week 9 of Forbidden Runtz! We're into the home stretch now, baby!
Day 57
Nothing much doing right now, just winding down nutrients and getting ready for the chop. The buds are starting to fatten up nicely, but I think have at least another week to 14 days to go yet. FastBuds reckon this is a 9-week strain and I think probably that's going to be about right here. There is some discolouration in some of the leaf veins, but at this point, I'm not overly fussed as it's so close to chop day, the yellowing of the leaves is also no real problem as I think it's probably just the plants natural fade. We'll ride out this week and hopefully, the next update will be with a few shots of the trichomes looking nice and advanced!
Thanks for reading along, grow well! x
A good strain to grow, very easy and incredibly quick. I harvested on 9 weeks. The smell is very strong so maybe not the ideal plant for a stealth grow, but otherwise nothing bad about this at all. Plant gave me no issues throughout the grow and looked healthy all the way.
I took down the Forbidden Runtz on Day 62 which was RAPID. I think I usually harvest a little on the early side as that's just the way I like my smoke, but this actually wouldn't go much further for most people in my opinion, probably 10-11 weeks max if you want an amber heavy harvest.
The smell is unreal, absolutely stinks to high heaven. I harvested it and it was the type of plant that makes you worry about your neighbours. Definitely not one for a stealth grow, but wow, its a strong, fruity, ripe scent that actually reminds me o fa GSC a little bit, but thicker and somehow denser, more over-ripe fruits.
>> HARVEST AND TRIM <<
The bud for this plant was kind of okay, I found it to be a little bit airy, almost like a sativa dominant plant, but still stocky and densely packed in. The trim was a bit of a chore to be honest, with a lot of small sugar leaves and even mini fan leaves sprouting out of everywhere. It took a while to trim and wasn't my favourite part of the harvest, but I got it done and hung it to dry on the stems in temps of 23-25C and a Relative Humidity of about 50% though at times it did peak at 60% due to the recent rains we've been having.
>> DRY BUD REPORT <<
The dry took about 6 days which is about average for my area, so not bad at all. I still feel like the bud is a little airier than I'd have liked but it's okay! The final weight came in at 44g which is a little underwhelming, but the bud absolutely stinks and is sticky as all hell so I'm willing to let it go since it seems like good quality smoke!
>> EARLY SMOKE <<
Definitely an Indica feeling stone this one, a bit heavy in the head and probably something I'd save for night times or late evenings when settling in to watch a film or something. I vaped it and the taste is really nice, quite strong and those over-ripe fruits really come through. For such an early smoke it was actually pretty smooth so I'm excited for this one to cure.
>> FINAL THOUGHTS <<
Overall this was a god grow, very easy to take to harvest and it gave me very little trouble all the way. It trained well and yeah, really nothing to complain about. All these newer FastBud strains seem to be pretty good quality and I have yet to have a plant that I wouldn't grow again. Likewise, I'll grow out my other seeds of this sometime, but I want to try some other strains first. in future, I wouldn't hesitate to grow again, however.
Thanks for reading along, best of luck with all your grows, take it easy! x
Looking awesome mate! I’m sure this strain will be very good because her parents are stunning also. I will grow it for the first time soon. Happy growing! 🤗
