On New year's eve I put the root riot cubes in a small tray with lid on in the veg cab to warm them up. The cubes were already wet from the bag and I added 2ml of water with root stim added at 2ml/L. My heated prop base was set at 26C, lamp at 24" above tray lid, dimmed to 60w. The rad in the rad box was at just over half on the dial with the switch set on 2 out of 3. This was keeping the temp in the germination tray at 27C. Vents on the tray lid were taped over to keep the humidity up. After 2 hours the temp had risen to 28 so I turned the prop base down to 25. The seeds were then placed straight from the freezer into the cubes in my usual manner, 10mm deep, point down and a corner of each cube stuffed into each hole, then pushed down to come in contact with the seeds and keep them wet all around.
1st Jan.
The Gorilla Girl cube top had dried a little so was topped up with 2ml plain water but I could see she'd already germinated within 24 hrs and her swan neck was showing in the hole. While I was waiting on them germinating I gave my tent a good clean with a mild bleach solution, ready for when the girls go in there.
2nd Jan.
I cleaned their 1L starter pots with mild bleach solution and rinsed, then mixed some coco with 20% perlite and filled the pots. Gave them a good soaking of feed before putting in the tent to warm up.
First feed.
Magnifical to 0.6
2ml/L Root stim 0.6
Equal parts of Micro and Grow to 0.7
EC 0.7 PH'd to 6.4
3rd Jan.
All had broken the surface within 72hrs so they were potted up to the pre warmed 1L pots with a sprinkle of MycorrMax added to the holes.
The girls were a little bit slow to get going, as I stressed them by letting them get too dry and then overwatering. The lamp had been lowered to 22" so I raised it back up a couple of inch to de stress them.
They were still off to a healthy start though.
Day 7.
I ran 400ml through each of them at EC 0.7 PH 6.3
Day 8.
200ml each at EC 0.7 PH 6 to see how they'd do kept wet from the day before. No signs of over watering.
Temps at pot level 26C, roots 25C, RH 38%.
Day 9.
I turned the lamp up to 70w and reset it at 24" from the plant tops.
Temps 26, roots 25 and RH 36%.
Day 10.
My extraction fan in the main tent that also draws through the veg cab is wired to slow speed but I plugged it into my variac controller to slow it right down. Temps in my cab went right up to 30C so this allowed me to turn my rad down in the rad box and also turn my cab extraction up slightly to get more air exchange. Temps at pot level in the cab settled at 26C.
Day 11.
Not much sign of roots at the drainage holes so I'd left them 3 days to dry out a bit.
Gave them another good run through with 500ml at EC 0.72 PH 6.1. Run off was EC 0.88.
I checked my bucket of nutes half hour after feeding the plants and the PH had risen to 6.4 Maybe I'm not leaving it long enough to settle when I first set it before feeding my plants. That seemed to be a big rise over such a short time.
Day 12.
Temps were nice at 27C, roots 26C and RH 34%.
The girls had started looking more on point for this age, main stems starting to thicken up and shed some skin. This normally happens with my seedlings between day 10 and 14. A couple of roots were starting to show at the drainage holes. I wish I could have kept these going in coco but for the reasons mentioned earlier about PH rising I didn't want to risk it and decided to pot up into compost when the time came.
Day 13.
There was yellowing and brown spots on the Amnesia's first leaves and the next leaves up were starting to be affected so i raised the lamp an inch to 25". I think this may have been caused by leaving them 3 days between feeds as the plants got bigger, or maybe the sudden rise in temps when I turned my extraction down. I also thought about the two feeds I'd given them at PH 6 and 6.1 on days 8 and 11 so I raised the PH back to 6.3 and also upped the feed a bit the next time I fed them. Temps were sitting at 28C at the pots, roots 27 and RH 33%.
Day 14.
I mixed 5L of feed in the bucket.
Background EC 0.45
6ml Magnifical to 0.6
10ml root stim 0.6
2ml of micro + 2ml grow to 0.84
1ml down and dirty to PH 6.3
I left it for half hour and had to re adjust the PH with another 0.8ml D and D
Final EC 0.84 PH 6.3
I ran 500ml through each and run off was around 0.9 for them all, 0.91 collectively.
Day 15.
Temps 28C
Roots 27C
RH 32%
Day 17.
All I did was check the nutes in my bucket. EC had risen to 0.89 and PH to 7.1 so In binned the mix.
Tent temps had been 21-27C for the 24hr cycle, roots 21-26 and RH 42-56%.
Day 18.
Temps 19-27C, roots 21-26, RH 39-49%.
I mixed a fresh 5L batch of nutes but this time replaced the IN root stim with VeloKelp. I had a bit left in a bottle so thought I'd try that and see if the PH holds more stable.
Background EC 0.5
Magnifical to 0.6
1.5ml of Mic, Gr and VK to 0.8
PH was 6.7 I added 0.75ml down and dirty to PH 6.3 and left this for half hour. PH was 6.9 so added a further 1ml D and D to PH 6.3
Gave them 300ml each with a run off about 100ml and that came out at EC 0.93
The nodes were stretching so I lowered the lamp from 45" to 40" above the tallest plant, the TP.
I then topped them at the 4th node. The TP was just starting it's 6th node so was easy, but the 5th nodes on the GG and SAH were only just giving me enough main stem above the 4th to top, so it was tight. What I do in this situation is slide a plastic plant marker carefully down one side between the fresh shoot and main stem. Then being more careful I place a clean sharp stanley blade down the other side and press the stem against the plant marker to get a nice clean cut without damaging the fresh new shoots.
Day 19.
The girls were fine and showing no signs of shock.
Day 20.
Temps 19-25C, roots 21-24, RH 39-49%
The last mix wasn't very PH stable and carried on rising after the 2nd adjustment so I mixed another 5L batch.
Background EC 0.5
3.5ml MC to 0.6
1.5ml VK,Mic,Gr to 0.8
5 drops of PH down to PH 5.9
So I tried phosphoric acid this time, left it 50 mins and it still rose to 6.3 so fed the plants 300ml each and the run off was 0.95 EC.
Day 21.
Temps 19-24C, roots 21-23, RH 40-52%.
Day 22.
Adjusted the previous mix back down to PH 6.3. EC was 0.81 and I gave them 400ml each. Run off came out at EC 0.95
Temps 19-24C, roots 21-23, RH 40-59%
The girls were stretching since going under the CMH so I lowered the lamp to 36" then turned up the inlet and extraction fans to give them more fresh air.
Prepped the 7.6L final pots with H&G Bat Special soaked with root stim solution at 2ml/L and put Blumat drippers in a bucket of water to soak.
Day 23.
Temps 19-25C, roots 19-24, RH 39-57%
Checked the finals and the compost was evenly wet so I got on with potting up.
Day 24.
Root temps were measuring a bit lower since pot up so I pushed the probe down further into the pot being used for measuring, about half way down. I lowered the lamp another inch, from 34" above the TP to 33". The girls were praying nicely but still stretching. They had also darkened up considerably overnight since the repot.
Temps 20-25C, roots 19-21 and RH 46-64%.
Day 25.
Still stretching/growing an inch a day so lowered the lamp again, now at 31". The leaf colour was getting too dark. I knew the compost would be stronger than the low EC I'd left off at in coco but thought the roots wouldn't be far enough into it to cause this. So I gave the original root balls 300ml each of plain water to prevent any salt build up as they dry.
Temps 20-26C, roots 19-22, RH 44-64%.
Day 26.
Lowered lamp another inch, now at 29".
Changed the 942 bulb to the newish 930, much brighter.
Temps 21-26C, roots 20-22, RH 45-71%.
The 71 being a spike after the 300ml watering.
Day 27.
The plants had now grown to within 28.5" of the lamp (measured from the TP). Growth/stretch had reduced so I left the lamp where it was.
Topped all 3, top 2 branches only to hopefully see the lower ones grow upwards and level out.
Day 28.
The lamp was adjusted to maintain 28" above the TP's highest top.
Day 29.
Same again with the lamp, it was adjusted to maintain 28" above the nearest top on the TPFV.
Temps 20-26C, roots 19-22, RH 39-53%.
Day 30.
They'd only grown half inch in height so it looked like stretch was under control.
I find if a plant is left to dry out a bit much and then watered with a full drench, it shocks them into looking over watered so I gave them a feed in 2 parts. 1st was 500ml of 2ml/L Foundation root stim a couple of hours after lights on and then a further feed, 600ml of the same about 4 hours later. The girls didn't really look shocked, just sagging slightly.
I put some plant bendz on their top 2 branches to lower them a bit and allow the lower limbs to catch up faster, and then adjusted the lamp height to 26" to see how they'd respond. It was 27.5" before the bending.
Day 31.
As you'll see in the pics, the girls weren't quite as perky as usual (barring the slightly shorter GG) so I raised the lamp back to the sweet spot of 28".
I also didn't think the previous night's watering of 1.1L total was enough to fully drench the pots so I gave them another litre each, plain water this time.
Temps 20-25C, roots 20-23, RH 41-66%, the 66% being a spike after watering the previous night I think. Just to clarify, I check my stats for the 24 hours as soon as I open the tent, mostly a couple of hours after lights on and before I do any maintenance.
Day 32.
I moved my CMH to the back of the tent over my other plants and hung my LED up at the front, set at 28" above the highest top (TP) and at a wattage of 124w on the blue. The far red turned fully down.
Did a spot of leaf tucking on the girls to allow the lower branch tops to receive more light and also sorted my tent drip tray to tighten up the sides in preparation for installing the Blumat drippers, as it's rubber lined fabric and not rigid.
Pot level temps 20-25C, roots 20-22, RH 46-81, the 81 spike being after a watering.
Day 33.
I turned the blue dimmer up on the LED to 135w and raised both lamps to maintain 28" above the plants.
The branches from the 3rd nodes on all 3 plants had overtaken the tops so I decided to remove the plant bends to allow the tops to grow back up level. All went well with the TP and SAH but I had a mishap with the GG. When taking the first one off, the stem was quite thick and awkward to get out and I managed to snap it. It was only hanging on by a thread but I thought I'd try and save it with some micropore tape. Then proceeded to free the other one with a lot more care. Anyway the other top bounced back up into the middle of the plant overnight and filled the space so I decided to cut the damaged top a bit lower down and settle for 6 main tops overall. It would have been a lot thinner than it's opposite anyway by the time it healed, if it did at all.
With the plants getting taller and the lamps being raised I turned my Inkbird thermo for the leccy blanket up from 21C to 24C to compensate and keep the roots warm.
Did a bit more leaf tucking and fed them 1L each of plain water.
Pot level temps 21-27C, roots 20-22, RH 48-64%.
Day 34.
Both the CMH and the LED were raised to maintain 28" above the back and front plants respectively, and I turned the LED up to 145w on the blue.
The TP's 3rd node branches were still racing away from the tops so I topped them as well to slow them down. So there were 10 main tops altogether.
Raised the LED again later on to 30" as the girls didn't look too happy with the raise in wattage. I could have just turned it back down but I wanted it up high and on higher power ready for switching to 12/12 anyway.
Fed them 700ml each of plain water.
Temps 21-27C, roots 21-24, RH 44-78%.
Day 35.
Raised the LED another 2" to maintain 30" above the nearest TPFV top.
The 3rd node branches of the TP were still going for it so I topped them yet again, but at the next node down to maintain 10 tops overall.
Temps 21-26C, roots 21=23, RH 44-76%.
Day 36.
I'd let them get a bit dry again so gave them a feed in 2 sessions. One of 500ml and another a few hours later of 700mm, both plain water.
Lighting was a bit intense with adding the LED to the CMH while still in veg so I raised both lamps to 33" above the TP. I know they need less umols in veg but I want them to get used to it before switching 12/12, and not stress them out at that point.
I cleaned up the lowers and removed the main fan leaves from the main stems.
Pot level temps 19-26C, roots 21-23, RH 44-69%.
Day 37.
Temps 18-26C, roots 20-23, RH 49-99%.
I think the lights off humidity of 99% must have been a malfunction of the hygrometer. I can't understand how it could possibly get that high when the extraction is running. Maybe I spilled some water on it or something.
I set up the Blumat drippers since the final pots should have been well rooted by this point. Then filled my res with 20L of plain water.
Day 38.
I dimmed the LED wattage to 105w on the blue and raised both lamps as high as they'd go. Ratchets removed and attached straight to the roof bar. This was in preparation for flowering, as I like to keep the lights off/on temps as close as possible to minimise stretch. 420w combined wattage with the LED 36" above the TPFV and the CMH 34" above the tallest plant at the back.
I checked the res, EC had risen to 0.4 and PH was 7.3 Temp was 15C so I switched the heater on set to lowest setting at 20C.
Pot level temps 19-26C, roots 18-22, RH 40-62%.
The root temps had dropped since sitting the pots up on drainage racks for collecting run off easily.
Day 39.
Temps 19-26C, roots 18-20, RH 43-60%.
The lights on root temps had also dropped quite dramatically so I added insulation to the tent, to try and combat raising the lamps and losing heat. I also gave the ducting joints to fans a good checking over to make sure no cold air was being drawn in before entering the tent. All was good there, no air was leaking but I added a bit of tape to one of the 4" fans as it was coming away slightly.
Day 40.
I gave them another prune of the lowers, taking the side shoots from the next node up from last time on all the main branches apart from the 2 top leaders. I also removed more shading fan leaves from the middles.
Turned the dripper adjusters down by half a notch on the SAH and TP as they were still a bit droopy on the lower leaves.
There was still 10L plain water left in the res at EC 0.46
I added 0.2ml/L each of Magnifical (Mc), Velo Kelp (VK), Micro (Mi) and Grow (Gr).
EC 0.55
PH 7
Temp 21C
Pot level temps 19-27C, roots 17-20, RH 41-74%.
Day 41.
Temps 17-24, roots 17-21, RH 43-75%.
Lights off temps and root temps were getting lower so I turned up the dial on my boxed oil rad from 2/3 to 3/4 and the tent extraction back down from 60% to 50% on the variac. I also pushed the rad right to the back of the box in front of the outlets to make sure most of the incoming air was passing over it.
I checked the res and temps were 20C, EC 0.55, the PH had risen to 7.5
I've not added any PH down as there's no need here, but I now know the PH still rises with these nutes after sitting the water for a few days before adding to the res. That's whether I PH down or not. So when I have another go at coco I'll try some different nutes, possibly Maxigrow and bloom as I've read they keep stable after the first adjustment. That was the reason why I potted up from coco to Bat Special, because the PH kept rising with these Remo nutes.
Day 42.
The res was getting low and I noticed an Mg defficiency setting in so mixed a fresh batch of 20L.
Background EC straight from the tap 0.37 PH 7.4
0.5ml/L Mc to 0.43
O.5ml/L VK to 0.45
0.5ml/L Mi to 0.51
0.5ml/L Gr to 0.6
When mixed into the tank final EC was 0.59
The above was a mistake. I meant to up the Mc and Vk to combat the Mg def but upped the Mi and Gr on auto pilot and paid for it. The tips were burnt on the SAH and TP after a few hours so I added 10L of plain water. This took the EC back down a bit to 0.57
Temps 16-25C, roots 17-20, RH 40-76%.
I was scratching my head at the low temps since insulating the tent and checking ducting so I checked the ducting over again. Low and behold, a tear in one of the ducts coming from the rad box in a hard to spot position. Can't believe I missed it, maybe I pulled the ducting when I had previously added extra tape at the other end to the fan. The tear must have already started though because the sudden drop in temps was the reason I added the tent insulation! 2 fuck ups in one day but I sorted it lol.
Day 43.
I was a bit worried about the mix still being too strong after the previous day's calamaties so I emptied the res and filled with 20L.
0.5ml/L Mc to EC 0.42
0.5ml/L VK to EC 0.45
Day 44, last day of veg.
I was still a bit concerned about Mg def on the Tropicanna Poison and the EC had already risen in the res to 0.56 so I added just an 1/8 ml/L Mc which took the EC to 0.58 0.02 doesn't sound much but I already burnt my girls so didn't wanna overdo it, with the compost still being fertile and the Mc having 3% N. The Mg problem had been halted for now so all was good.
Pot level temps 21-28C, roots 22-25, RH 48-78%.
I turned the rad thermostat down again to 5 o'clock on the dial because I wanted lights on temps lower and lights off temps higher to keep them as close as possible to minimise stretch.
They'd been in their finals for 21 days and the TP was getting tall so I switched the timers to 12/12 as planned after 3 weeks in the finals.
Pre stretch measurements.
(From pot level)
Gorilla Girl 16"
Sweet Amnesia Haze 15"
Tropicanna Poison 22"
I normally get temps of 21-25C in the room in winter and that keeps the stretch down most of the time, along with making sure the pots are fully rooted. Since insulating the tent and getting higher lights on temps I decided to re introduce my old tube heaters (for lights off) that I used before the external rad box was built. They've got home made heat deflectors fitted to direct the heat towards the root balls/plants. I used to have them in the middle of the tent with the deflectors facing out to the plants but this time I placed them at the front and back of the tent facing inwards, as I didn't want them in the middle in case I burned the Blumat feed tubes. So I had to strip one down and turn the deflector the other way. Easy done, just copper wires punched through the aluminium and twist tied around the brackets. the longest is 165w and the shortest is 120w I think (decal sticker is missing).
Day 1.
I pinched the highest tops on the TP to try and slow her down a bit.
Pot level temps 20-27C, roots 23-25, RH 52-76%.
I made a simple venturi from old aquarium gear I saved, to add some more oxygen to the res. So it cost me nothing :)
1/2" hose with valve and some 8mm air pump tube cut at an angle.
Day 2.
I turned the thermostatic plug for the tube heaters up to 27C and raised the LED power up from 105w to 110w, so that's 425w total power with the CMH.
The res was getting low but it was late when I checked and I wasn't sure what my next mix was gonna be. So I just topped up with 2L plain water to see them through the next day until lights on. EC in res 0.55
Pot level temps 22-29C, roots 23-25, RH 42-64%.
Day 3.
I pinched the tops on the TP again, every one this time so some have been pinched twice. Just enough to flatten the stems and slow the juices but stay upright.
Mixed a 20L batch for the res.
Background EC 0.36 straight from the tap (It rises to 0.45 when sat in buckets for a day).
1/4ml/L MC, VK, Mi and 1/2ml/L Nature's Candy (NC) to 0.46
Total volume in the res 25L, final EC 0.49
Pot level temps 21-28C, roots 22-25, RH 42-51%.
After the readings I placed the hygrometer at canopy level in my usual place at the side of the tent, so I could keep an eye on canopy temps as they flower.
Day 4.
On checking the res the EC had risen to 0.58 as expected after gas exchange. 20L remaining so all 6 plants including the others had used 5L total in 24 hours, average of 833ml per plant. When hand watering these pots every 2nd day they'd be on maybe 1.4-1.6L at this stage so the girls were drinking nicely from the Blumats.
Canopy level temps 23-28C, roots 22-25, RH 44-55%.
I managed to raise the lights on temps to 28 and still keep lights off within 5C so I was happy with that.
Day 5.

Day 6.

Some pics were taken on day 10 with both lamps on. I don't really like taking them with the lamps on but it would be rude not to show them illuminated under what's giving them their energy, so why not :)
Day 11.
CLA temps 22-28C, roots 23-24, RH 44-58%.
On opening the tent CLA temps were 27C, leaf temps 23 and RH 50% with a VPD of 1.2kPa. Just on the upper limit of healthy transpiration for late veg/early flower.
EC in the res had risen to 0.7
The TP had stretched to 31" and the closest top was only 23" from the LED so I set about bending her tops with plant bendz to slow her down a bit and shorten her (for a while). Minimum recommended distance for the Magnuslight is 24".
I took a pic of her after the bending and thought I'd include pics of the others on day 11 too while I'm at it. Some stems folded inside the bendz as they were a bit thin, but never snapped.

I don't know why the EC had dropped a touch when it's drain to waste, maybe it's a temperature thing or just EC pen discrepancy. The EC in the res rises over a couple of days after mixing up, then settles.
TP was stretching away again on a couple of tops so I added another plant bend to each of those tops and also one to the only top I hadn't sorted before. It was a bit shorter than the rest before I sorted them, but stretching a bit now and taking over.

Day 15.
CLA temps 21-27C, roots 22-24, RH 48-70%
EC in the res had risen to 0.77 which is a usual rise the day after adding a mix.
On first opening the tent air temps were 26C, leaf temps 23C and RH 55%. I checked the VPD from these stats and this gave a reading of 0.96 kPa which is in the middle of healthy transpiration for late veg/early flower. All well and good if my infra red thermometer reads correctly (I think I knackered it making ISO oil and pointing it into the boiling fumes lol). I had hung my hygrometer in the canopy of the GG on day 13 and thought that was the reason for the spike in humidity on the day 14 readings, but since moving it back to the side of the tent the RH high on day 15 was the same so that's where the hygro stayed. The spike in humidity was from the lower air temps.
Day 16.
CLA temps 22-27C, roots 23-24, RH 47-65%
EC in the res 0.77
It suddenly dawned on me that the nights had got a bit cooler again and RH was still quite high so I turned the oil rad back up from 5 o clock on the dial to about 2/3rds to keep things sweet.
Day 17.
CLA temps 22-27C, roots 23-25, RH 42-58%
Looks like turning the rad up sorted the RH out but only kept the temps steady as they were, no rise.
Mixed up a quick 5L of feed as work was getting in the way of things a bit.
Background EC straight from the tap 0.35
1/2 ml/L MC to 0.4
1/2 ml/L VK to 0.42
1/2 ml/L Mi to 0.49
1/2 ml/L Bl to 0.56
1/2 ml/L NC to 0.6
1/2 ml/L AF to 0.64
Added the mix to the res. I couldn't check the res EC beforehand or the combined EC after topping up. I'd gone up there in pitch black at lights off and got my bottles, EC pen and water container to mix downstairs, then went back up and topped up the res in the dark. After 12 hours the res EC was 0.78, much the same as the previous day.
Day 18.
CL air temps 22-27C, roots 23-24, RH 45-56%
EC in res 0.79
Checked the current stats as soon as I opened the tent for a VPD check. CL air temps were 27, leaf temps 25 and RH 52% which gave a VPD reading of 1.31 kPa, which falls into the band for high transpiration rate for mid/late flower. A bit high for early flower, but at the lower end of the band and heading in the right direction as far as I understand it because they'd be entering mid flower soon.
Mixed up 20L of feed.
Background EC 0.39 (stood for a day)

1/2 ml/L AF to 0.78
Added to the res for a total of 29L and combined EC of 0.79
I'd lowered the Astro Flower a touch, as the leaf tips looked to be burning a bit.
I had to turn my veg cab extraction up a touch to improve conditions in there, so turned the fan running straight from the rad box down a bit to compensate and maintain negative pressure in the tent. (I have two 4" fans supplying a 6" splitter into my tent. One draws straight from the rad box and the other draws from the rad box via my veg cab)
Day 19.
CL air temps 22-28C, roots 23-24, RH 45-59%
EC in res 0.85
There were 23L left from the previous day's 29L so the girls were still drinking an average of 833ml each daily across the total of 6 plants in there.
I added a further 1/4 ml/L of both MC and VK to the 23L, which raised the EC to 0.92 and then set about spreading the Gorilla Girl out a bit.
Day 20.
CL air temps 22-28C, roots 23-25, RH 42-60%
EC in res 0.89
On opening the tent air temps were 27C, leaf 22 and RH 46% which gave a VPD reading of 1kPa and is bang in the middle of the healthy transpiration band for late veg/early flower. I'm not that bothered about VPD as I can't really control all 3 factors that well with my basic DIY set up. But this reminds me that I should try and get the leaf and air temps up a bit while lowering humidity a touch as they go into mid flower, and move the VPD into the high transpiration band for mid/late flower. Like I said though, I'm not that cut out for it and I'm not sure the IR thermometer is accurate. As long as my girls are growing healthily and humidity isn't too high I won't make any big changes.
Day 21.
CL air temps 22-28C, roots 24-25, RH 44-57%

Week 3 stretch.

Sweet Amnesia Haze: Flip = 15". Day 7 = 18". Day 14 = 22.5". Day 21 = 26". Total stretch = 11".
Tropicanna Poison F1FV: Flip = 22". Day 7 = 27". Day 14 = 28". Day 21 = 33.5". Total stretch = 11.5" minus the plant bend training.
Looks like rooting the final pots out for 3 weeks before flip and keeping night/day temps as close as I could worked ok for me again. The GG stretched x 80%, SAH x 70% and TP x 60% with the added training. Happy with that :) the TP would have been too close to the LED by now if I hadn't used the plant bendz. I only just got away with it really, as the stems were too rigid to bend them again. She's solid.
The LED was still set at 115w on the blue and I turned the far red up to total 125w.
Day 22 AM.
The res was getting low in the morning just before lights off so I mixed a quick 5L up.

Res EC had risen to 0.87
I decided to flush all 6 plants in the tent to give them a reset but with feed instead of plain water, so not to make too dramatic a change in the root zone. An 18L mix to give 3L to each plant. The feed levels were raised as a precaution to make sure the plants wouldn't suffer any hunger from the flush if they didn't need the flush.
Background EC 0.39

3/4 ml/L Mi to 0.6
3/4 ml/L Bl to 0.72
3/4 ml/L NC to 0.81
1/2 ml/L AF to 0.86
The AF was kept at 1/2 ml/L as I suspected the EC in the compost would be high, hence the reason for the reset.
The 3L was given to each plant very slowly through a 300ml syringe and gave a run off of roughly 1.8L each. This also expanded the root balls back to the pot edges.
GG run off 1.6 EC
SAH run off 1.29 EC
TP run off 1.49 EC
So looking at the run off EC I'm glad I gave them a flush when I did before running into lockout problems. SAH had been using the nutes up slightly better than the others. I'd made some raised run off racks earlier in the grow for sliding the saucers out but I removed them in favour of having the pots directly on the floor for heat from the underfloor electric blanket. Getting the run off rack under the plants was easy enough. I just used the one rack and pushed each pot in turn far enough back to sit the rack in front, lifted the plant forward onto it, then slid the whole lot back so I could slide the saucer underneath and back out when full. Reverse order to remove the rack and move on to the next plant. This was a chore for 6 plants attached to drippers and I was tempted to get lazy and put all the racks back in, leaving them in place for next time. But the girls had been happy with their pots sat directly on the floor on the leccy blanket so that's where they stayed and it saved me having to turn the Inkbird up more for the blanket.
I turned the red up further on the LED to total 135w.
Day 23 AM.
EC in res 0.87
There was no need to top up the res at this time as the pots were still soaked from the flush, but I decided to add another 10L in advance in case work gets in the way. It's been a bit of a juggle between trying not to add too much in case I need to change it, and making sure there's enough in there in case I get called out for work at short notice. All in all though these Blumats have been a saviour for when I did get called out.

EC in res had risen to 0.93
Notice the lights off root temps of 15? lol I made a major feck up the night before when adjusting the LED wattage. There's no room to plug my watt meter in the 4 gang extention so I have to unplug the tube heater thermostatic plug every time I need to use the watt meter. Forgot to plug the thermostat back in afterwards in didn't I lol. I was a bit worried about hermies so I checked for a few days and there were none. It would have been a shame if they did throw some out because I'd done everything I could possibly think of to keep them de stressed throughout the grow.
While it was still unplugged I plugged the meter back in and adjusted the far red some more while keeping the blue the same, taking the total LED wattage up to 145w. So a total wattage of 460w at this stage including the CMH.

Since the root balls had expanded back to the pot sides after their flush I decided they hadn't been getting enough water prior to that and opened up the Blumat adjusters by one notch on each plant.
I turned the far red on the LED the rest of the way up and this read 148w on the watt meter combined with the blue. Total wattage in the tent 463w.

There were 7.5L remaining in the res so all 6 plants had drank 14.5L between them in 2 days. Each plant averaging 1.2L each per day. This is what they'd be getting in 11.4L fabrics hand watered. These are only 7.6L filled to less than 7. I had already moved over to the idea of keeping the pots more moist between waterings but these Blumats have really hit it home to me. I think most of the previous problems with my growing have been letting them dry out too much in between and then them showing signs of over watering from the shock of being too dry, then too wet. They weren't too wet at all, they were too dry in between.

Day 28.
CL air temps 23-29C, roots 24-25, RH 50-65%
Res EC settled and still at 1.1
The LED blue was notched up some more to 171w, totalling 486 tent wattage.
The nearest tops to the LED on the TPFV were 20" and 21" so I super cropped them both (after taking the pics) and that left another close top 22" away. I didn't wanna super crop this one just yet and cause her too much stress. The stems were rock solid and took a fair bit of pressure to flatten them. I flattened them for a good inch and a half so the bend would be smooth and not split them. They stayed put nicely, no growing back upwards.
The feed being raised to 1ml/L each of the first 5 bottles and 3/4 ml/L Astro Flower proved to be a bit much and the tips of the older leaves carried on burning. Also tips of new leaves were showing yellow so the feed was lowered and they had another flush on day 33 to lower any feed build up. This time with a lower strength feed. Apart from that the girls were doing fine.
Day 29.
CL air temps 22-30C, roots 24-25, RH 48-67%.

I did a complete res change and even though there is a shut off valve in the system I didn't want any air in the pipes whatsoever (my outlet is about 3" from the bottom to protect the circ pump and aquarium heater). So to do this I first got some kitchen roll to hand and a 2L jug full of the above mix. I tipped the res on it's side, almost horizontal with the base still resting on the platform and the outlet pipe facing the floor. Holding the res steady with my left hand I jugged out the remaining mix in the res until the level was just proud of the outlet, so very little solution was left in there. I used the kitchen roll to wipe the silt out from the bottom and poured the 2L jug in. I had a bucket of fresh mix by my side so I could jug another 2L in before sitting the res back upright and the 4L added was just above the outlet.
Added the rest of the mix for a total of 20L and EC of 0.83 The slight dregs in the res had raised the EC very slightly.
The Blumat adjusters were opened up by one notch as a precaution in case any silt had gone down the outlet while the res was on it's side. I'm really glad I thought about that one as I got a blockage of silt in the feed tube of one of my other plants a few days later and I'd not opened up the adjuster on that one. No problem with these girls yet but I won't be doing a res change this way in future. I'll turn off the valve and also plug the outlet to be sure of no air or silt entering the feed lines.
The blue dimmer on the LED was raised to 180w and I removed 1 leaf from the middle of each plant.
I super cropped the closest top of the TPFV that I never bothered with on the last super cropping sesh. The closest TPFV top to the lamp was 26", same for the SAH and 24" for the GG.

For my own reference I opened up the drippers on the rear plants by one notch.
Day 31.

EC had risen to 1 again. 24L left in res, so they'd drank 7.5L in the last 24hrs, a litre less than the day before. Interesting when I'd opened up the drippers on the other plants. maybe I misread the levels the day before.
Performed the daily defol of 1 leaf per plant lol
Not liking the lights off RH I notched the extractor Variac up from 50% to 60% and turned the inlet fan coming from the rad box up a touch to just maintain neg pressure in the tent.
Turned the led blue up a further 10w to 190w.

With the intention of hand watering this mix I had to warm it up first and it was taking ages in the attic with the buckets sat on an infra red heat mat for warming your feet up lol I saw it in the middle of Lidl once and thought it would be good for the veg cab but then decided against it in case the infra red made the plants stretch. Anyway, it's not up to heating 2 buckets of water up quickly so I added the mix to the res to warm up quicker. Total of 26L with combined EC 0.93 After a couple of hours it was up to 20C. EC had risen to 1. While waiting I decided I would reset the girls with a weaker EC. It was a last minute decision, I removed 9L from the res and mixed with 9L of fresh cold water from the tap at EC 0.37 The final EC was 0.65 and 17C so good to go.
Gave all six plants 3L each through the 300ml syringe and run off was about 1.6L each.
GG run off EC 1.3
SAH 1.3
TP 1.7
It was getting increasingly difficult to move the plants around in the tent, without squashing them against each other, to get the run off trays under the pots and it took me a good couple of hours. As you know though I wanted to keep the pots on the floor with no saucers, for the heat and to maintain lamp distance. So it was planned that the next reset would probably be a very slow plain watering until it just starts to run off. That would dilute any feed build up without leaving them hungry, but hopefully wouldn't be needed if I kept the feeds low from now. It's not easy doing multi strains on a one feed fits all, as you all know, so I envisaged there would probably be more build up of unused nutes in some plants as the grow progressed.
Day 34.
CL air temps 24-28C, roots 23-24, RH 48-66%
14L left in the res, EC still at 1
On opening the tent air temps were 28C, leaf temps 27C and RH 53%. This gave a VPD reading of 1.56 kPa, at the high end of the Mid/Late flower high transpiration band and very close to the danger zone of over transpiration.
I turned the blue dimmer down 5w to 185w, totalling 500w with the CMH.
On top of the steady 1 leaf per day defol, I'd been giving any old lower leaves a little tug when they'd faded. If they didn't come off easy I left them but most were gone now apart from a few fading lowers from the flush.
I still wasn't happy with the fresh growth tips so I mixed 10L of weaker feed, background EC 0.35 straight from tap.

Before adding the mix to the res I got some plain water EC 0.49 that had been sat for a few hours and added enough to the res to take the EC down to 0.83, close to equalling the fresh mix EC. Added the mix for a total of 34L, combined EC 0.81
The venturi stopped working, no air bubbles, and I thought it was because the res was quite full but on checking the pump strainer it was partially blocked with silt. Took it out, cleaned it up and the venturi started working again :) I thought I must have washed the silt towards the pump when pouring the mix in because it was working fine before topping up. Thinking back though, I'd just done a full res change 5 days before and cleaned the silt from the res so the pump strainer must have already been partially blocked and went un noticed. I didn't think I'd need an inline filter with the outlet being 3" from the base of the res but next time I'll fit one to be safe and prevent silt getting into the feed outlet. Either that or do some research on nutes that don't cause silt, if they exist. Thinking of powdered nutes anyway, I'm sure I've read of some that don't cause residue.

Raised the LED wattage another 10w to 200w.
The TPFV cut was showing a root on day 7 so I took it out of the prop bag and topped up with compost to cover the root, then added a splash of water, just enough to wet the cube and fresh compost around it. I then put a pop bottle cloche over the pot to get her used to the drop in humidity steadily.
I've included a pic before topping up with compost and covering the root. Apologies for the pic quality, I framed it from too far away and had to crop it quite a bit.

CL air temps 24-29C, roots 24-24, RH 44-55%.
Only 5L left in the Res, just above the outlet, with an EC of 0.97
I'm not sure why the EC had risen from 0.83 to 0.97 in 24hrs. All I could think of was, with the res being low the silt in the bottom must have been affecting the EC. So another res change was due to hopefully not get any silt down the main feed pipe.
In the meantime I mixed up 20L, background EC 0.37

Looks like they'd drank more than usual in the previous 24hrs but I'd been dialling back in 2 of the plants at the back since they'd had silt blockages removed, so can't really be sure how much these girls had drank. Probably the usual.
Removed 2 lower shoots and 1 leaf from the SAH and 2 leaves from each of the others. Then performed a res change.
I first mixed up 20L of feed ready for when I'd emptied the res.

3/4 ml/L AF to 0.73
I then gave each plant 900ml of plain water very slowly through a 300ml syringe until it just started to leak from the bottom, no messing about with drain racks and saucers this time. I did this first so there'd be no demand for feed from any of the plants before doing the res change, a precaution to prevent air or silt being drawn in. Any water that leaked through the side of the fabric pots was sucked straight back up but there wasn't much. As soon as I saw leaks from the sides I stopped for a second.
I'd been racking my brains for 2 days for what to use to bung the outlet in the res and it was sitting right there in front of me on the table lol Swan extra slim filter tip.
I first tried one in the spare outlet, rolling it and compressing it like you would an ear defender plug. Shoved it in the hole and opened the tap to test it. Just a very slight slow drip from the tap with 10L of feed pressure against it so I figured that would stop any air being drawn in when I emptied the res, and defo no silt :)
Plugged the main outlet and closed the tap inside the tent that's just before the first feed tube T off. Emptied the res and cleaned the silt from the res bottom and the pump strainer. The res was filled with the 20L mix before removing the plug and opening the valve back up.
I've included a quick pic of the plugs in place, simple but effective.

16L remaining so they'd each drank their 900ml of plain water, plus 4L of feed from the res between them all in 24hrs.
I removed 4 lower scabby leaves from the GG, 4 lower shoots from the SAH and 2 lower scabby leaves from the TPFV.
As you can see from the previous 3 days the highest lights on temps were high and also the lights off humidity was high so I turned the Variac up to 70% of low speed on the extraction fan. The extractor fan when wired to low speed, operates at 80% of full power, so 70% on the Variac of 80% on the fan = 56% of full power. Both the inlet fans from the rad box and veg cab were turned up a bit and neg pressure was maintained in the tent.
I turned the blue dimmer up on the LED by another 10w to 230w.

The SAH was looking over watered so I turned her Blumat down by one notch on the adjuster.
Removed 4 more lower shoots from the SAH and one from the GG.
The girls were looking a bit more tidy now that most of the old scabby leaves were gone. The tent was smelling more sweet when I opened it, with less dank sweaty humidity hitting me in the face since upping the extraction.

Removed 2 shoots and 2 leaves from the SAH and 2 leaves from the GG.
Tied the 2 outer branches of the TP back to the inner branches with some pipe cleaners as they were leaning out even further. It now measured 800mm wide.

As you'll see in some of the pics the big sativa at the back was looking rather worse for wear. Not part of the diary but I'll mention it anyway to help anyone, like myself, trying Blumats for the first time.
When her feed tube got blocked with silt I opened up the drip adjuster, took the feed tube off the main feed pipe and blew through it. Then put it back together and dialled it in. This worked fine for the other plant at the back that had a blockage previously, but on this occasion I'd not caught it in time, the Blumat carrot had emptied without me knowing and the dripper stopped working. So I gave her a hand watering and soaked another carrot. Next day I gave her 900ml of plain water, fitted the new Blumat and dialled it in. No problems since. Moral of the story, if you get any blockages make sure you unscrew the cap and check the carrot still has solution in it. Better to take it out, fill it and replace the cap submerged in water before re dialling. But the porus carrot/cone would most likely be saturated with air, so to be sure, start afresh with a spare pre soaked Blumat if you have one ;)

These nutes seem to leave quite a lot of silt in a short time after a res change so I started pumping the fresh mixes in from my buckets with a small 12v sub pump as opposed to pouring straight in from the bucket or using a jug. It pumps in slowly and runs down the side without disturbing the silt on the bottom too much and I make sure it runs down the side opposite my feed outlet.
I think the lowering of feed was just a tad soon for the TPFV and a tad late for the Ammo, but a balance had to be found using a one feed fits all 6 plants in the tent using Blumats. It didn't work out too badly though, considering :)

Took a few old fan leaves from the TPFV that were curling up and had passed their photosynthesising date.
I chopped a lower TPFV bud with plenty of clear trichs and quick dried it for a few days on top of my veg cab in ambient temps. The high wasn't racy so in hindsight I had actually lowered the feed at the right time if I was to take the plant now and it would be a fast version, just not as fast as the breeders say. That all depends on the grower's preference though and I like mine well cooked :)

Magnuslight state somewhere on their website that turning the far red down gradually over the last phase of flowering will keep the buds compact, as the leaf temp is lowered and the flowers don't open due to heat transpiration.
So I turned the far red down by 5w to total 215w on the LED, total tent wattage 530w with the CMH. I was tempted to turn the blue up and keep the total wattage the same but decided against it to preserve terps, as lights on canopy temps were 29C.

Took a few more leaves from the TPFV and turned her dripper down by 1 notch as her mid sized leaves were starting to curl down a bit, suggesting to me she was over watered.
I turned the far red down a further 10w to total 205w led. I think it should be turned down more gradually over a couple of weeks but the TPFV was finishing up quickly so I was in a rush to lower the far red.

I removed the dripper from the TP and gave her a hand watering, 1.3L plain water which gave 150ml run off at EC 2.9 Not too worried about that reading as it was probably just a build up of whatever in the mix the plant wasn't using. Doubt it would be salts when the pot is constantly wet. Anyways, I smoked the early taster after 3 days drying on top of my cab, and it was pretty smooth. The smoke tasted creamy and the terps were sweet but not sure what of. A bit heady as expected from a lower bud but not racy. A strong high too :)

You'll notice the highest lights on temps had crept up to 31C again but I didn't want to mess with the environment when the RH was right where I wanted it, nice and low for late flowering. That probably explains the high run off EC if the plants were drinking more heavily and leaving the nutes behind.
Gave them all a plain watering of 1.2L.
GG run off 400ml, EC 2.1
SAH 200ml, EC 2.1
TP 1.2L, EC 2.3
Removed a couple of fan leaves from all 3 plants.
I was going to chop the TP on day 63 but I had a lot of photo's to take and it's a long job taking them all, trimming, then taking more afterwards so I decided to do it over 2 nights. Therefore I didn't have much time for photographing the other plants.
So out came the scissors on day 64 after removing any large fan leaves that were left. A fair few of the mid sized cola leaves went in the trim tray as they had plenty of resin on them. Any of the small buds that fell from the stalks while trimming went into a brown paper bag for a slower dry, than just sat in the open on my veg cab. Small buds are better in the bottom of the jar, than an empty jar when the good buds have ran out ;) So I always trim them and if they dry up to nothing then they go in with the trim. They deserve a chance though because sometimes I fancy the slightly different buzz I get from lower buds.
Scissor/glove hash.
Got a ball of about 11mm with the glove hash included. I prefer the cleaner hash from the scissors on it's own but decided to mix it for more volume. I did try and remove most of the pistils and bits of leaf from my gloves though before collecting the resin.
Aroma.
Sweet and perfumy incense, quite potent and intense.
Taste.
Smooth and creamy on inhaling and leaves a sweet n sour spicy hashy aftertaste. Nice.
Effect.
Was listening to some drum n bass when I tried it and was uplifted and buzzing within a few minutes. Happy smily tackle that numbs my head in a really nice way, and it's strong.
It's relaxing in the body but the energetic and heady edge takes over with the music on. I'm hoping the cured buds will be a bit more relaxing for me. They should be 'cause I usually find fresh scissor hash a bit hectic.
Dry buds smoke report.
Aroma.
Mango and sweet digestive biscuit, like a cheesecake base. There's a hint of citrus orange/mandarine coming through as the buds are curing.
Taste.
Very smooth, creamy caramel and mango. I've not grown Cream Caramel yet but this is how I would expect that to taste, without the Mango bit.
Effect.
Hits my body first and feels like it's gonna be a full on body relaxation. Then the head buzz kicks in and I wanna be on my feet looking for something to do. Another vape and then it's sit back down again. It's a happy smiley one, really nice euphoric dreamy carefree head high. Found myself having daft thoughts and laughing at myself haha. Seems about 50/50 to me and it's a nice combination. Feel good weed. I think I'll nickname this zebedee cos one minute I'm proper relaxed and cowchlocky. I get up for a drink or munchies and I'm pacing about again. Nice smoke :yep: For the report I vaped it from late on until the early hours, then finished off with a couple of pure single skinners. The missus came down at 7am and couldn't get a conversation out of me, I was talking gibberish lol The joints had wiped me out so I went to bed and was out like a light for most of the day haha. Can't fault it. Big up Sweet Seeds

So she was harvested on day 68, the day after the pre harvest pics, as planned. The rest of the fan leaves were removed and I spent two hours trimming as many of the sugar leaves from between the buds as I could persevere, it's not my favorite pastime lol The aroma that stood out while trimming was sweet citrus mixed with something fresh.
Scissor/glove hash.
Aroma.
Wood, spice, hint of citrus (orange and lemon).
Taste.
woody, pine, sweet citrus, not zesty.
Earthy aftertaste.
Effect.
Mind is instantly energised but the buzz soon kicks in to the body as well. It's a bit of a head - body tug of war and leaves my cheeks numb with a warm tingling headband. If it wasn't for the body buzz being so strong I think my head would take off lol Proper relaxes my shoulders where I get most of my pain so a big thumbs up from me. Dry mouthed, narrow eyed stone with a wide awake head to start with. It doesn't take long for a full heavy legged body relaxation to kick in and my head to get a bit tangled, like a tug of war between focused and confused. Had to get on my feet, get some munchies and snap out of it lol I've only knowingly smoked Ammo from other people a couple of times but I don't remember it being this potent and strong.
Dry buds smoke report.
Aroma.
In the jars it smells of really deep over ripe mixed fruit with citrus orange and lemon. This is defo the jar I enjoy opening most for a sniff. The TPFV comes a close 2nd but that dried a little bit quick for my liking. This Amnesia was transferred to a bag after 5 days hanging, still on the stalks, then after a few more days de stalked and into a plastic tub for a few more days before jarring. I think in future (at this time of year) I'll go 3 days with each, then watch the humidity in the plastic tub until it hits 62-63%, then jar. When I grind a bud up the citrus really comes out, quite tangy.
Taste.
Sweet and sour lemon, wood and spice.
Effect.
Head high comes on quickly, clear (ish) to start with and sense awakening.
Then the body stone kicks in and it seems like it's trying to tug the buzz out of my head, creating a bit of confusion and stoning me to feck :D Good for music and a bit of a party smoke I reckon. There'll be some laughs had lol so that's what it will be used for. It's defo a tangled stone for me when on my own and reminds me of a Blues cut I kept for a while that was leaning to the head side of things. Great stuff and fun stuff but I couldn't smoke it for long periods or my head would start mashing up lol This is very similar so will be kept by for a treat when friends are round ;) When the buzz wears off though, I'm left in a nicely stoned relaxed state. In summary it's quality top shelf if you wanna be off your head and not just relaxed.

Due to the TPFV drying a bit quick for my liking, I'd transferred the SAH colas into a large brown paper bag after only 4 days of hanging and they'd been in the bag for 3 days at this point. The top of the bag was folded over and pegged shut. Temps in the bag were 18.5C and RH was 63%.

On close inspection of her trichs it was time to chop her main colas so I took the pre harvest pics on day 78 and chopped the 6 colas on day 79. The rest of the plant was left a further 11 days for the lowers to ripen and hopefully fatten up some more, which they did a little bit but not much.
Gorilla Girl glove hash.
Looking at the 8mm lines on the paper in the photo, there was a ball of about 14-15mm. Very gooey and didn't fall apart when I started taking from it.
Aroma.
Sweet orange, sherbert lemon, floral incense and earth. There's a touch of fuel but it's like a dirty fuel combined with the other aromas, not a clean sharp petrol that I got while harvesting. It's quite complex, one that I could sniff for ages.
Taste.
Smooth and creamy smoke with a touch of lemon and an earthy aftertaste.
Effect.
It's an up sativa high, pleasant with no raciness and gets me on my feet with a smile on my face. The body relaxation is equally smooth and not heavy, so the buds when they're ready should be good for a daytime smoke if treated with respect. It's potent and I still have some left after my initial try. Plus I also had another micro dosing sesh which kept me awake until daybreak after getting battered on an indica strain with my mate. A little bit fluffs up well and goes a long way. This is my fave of the 3 so far, going by my experience of the hashes.
Dry buds vape report.
Aroma.
In the jars I'm getting a hint of something like gravy with some spice, very faint, and cookies. Take a bud out to sniff closely and it's fruity with a touch of sherbert lemon. Can't smell the fuel I could smell in the hash. More of an orange and lemon mix with a hint of melon. Grind it up and sweet orange comes out.
Taste.
Orange and lemon, a bit of earth but there are hints of other stuff I can't quite pin point. Complex.
Effect.
Straight up with an instant head buzz. Relaxes my neck and shoulders nicely within 5 or 10 minutes, then creeps in heavier to the body. Very strong in both head and body. Thoughts are clear enough to be functional in the head but I'm wasted as the uplift from the head high wears off. It seems to be heavier on the body than the scissor hash but hash usually affects me more in the head. As mentioned earlier I think it would be good for getting wasted with my mates at a BBQ in the sun with music through the daytime, but not if I wanted to get on with something. Power tackle with lots of trichomes. I won't be vaping it again within an hour of bed time as I won't get to sleep for a couple of hours, thoughts start racing a bit. But once the head high wears off it's GOODNIGHT lol
Oil report.
Aroma.
Very sweet orange and lemon, can hardly detect an oily smell.
Taste.
Taken through a Borosilicate oil pipe and I can't taste the orange and lemon. It tastes really smooth and creamy though, no oily harshness at all. If I can get my Cloud Evo fixed soon, I have some quartz nails to fit it so that would maybe bring out the taste more, dunno. Only had a couple of dabs anyway and I'd been drinking. *Update* I normally take oil in coffee or warm milk, or smear it on skins but since quitting combustion I perfected the oil pipe a bit and the terps are amazing, sweet citrus.
Effect.
This is the good bit :) I love the instant hit oil gives me most of the time and this one is nice. Straight up high with a nice clear head, coupled by an almost as instant body relaxation to the upper body where I need it in my neck and shoulders. It's strong but it's smooth and mellow and I'm glad that there were more of the Gorilla Girl trichs in there than the Amnesia haze. A good combination/ratio though and the high lasts a couple of hours so I'm a happy chappy :D
Thanks for looking, happy growing and be lucky! 😁
