Ok Folks, this is the 2nd time I've started this diary, so it'd better save!😬 Apparently over the past few weeks GD has had some issues updating properly; my photoperiod diaries weren't showing new cover photos and the 2 diaries I started for my autos disappeared, it says there's 17 but only lists 15. So I wonder if after I finish adding these 2 again it'll say there's 19 when it only lists 17, who knows😩
Anyway...
I had this whole story in the first iteration of this diary talking about my love affair with Widow Remedy that I grew 2 seasons ago that I finished up this Spring and how I discovered it had wayyy more THC than I originally thought it did so it brought up my tolerance and how I wanted more uplifting and cerebral medicine and I felt like there was a hole in my lineup this year so I decided to add some autos and I really wanted some Pineapple Express but it was out of stock and blah blah blah...
These Green Crack Auto seeds by Fastbuds came to me from 207 Genetics. They're local to me and it was my first time ordering, but I think I'm going to be ordering from them more now. It usually takes 3-4 weeks for me to get an order from Seedsman, and with them revamping their distribution system it meant I couldn't get the strains I originally wanted for this year which was a bit disappointing. But 207 Genetics? I ordered these seeds on a Thursday and they were in my mailbox that Saturday. You can't beat that kind of speed!
I started these seeds on 6/14. I put them in CowPots; the bottom half had Coast of Maine Bar Harbor blend, and the top half was their Sprout Island blend, the thought being that the seeds would germinate in the seed starting medium on the top half and then shoot their roots down to the more nutrient rich potting blend on the bottom.
I placed them in a 1020 tray which had my Vivosun heat mat, thermostat set to 78F, and put it in front of a SE window.
They started pushing up on the 16th and were upright and at attention on the 17th.
The first few days of these seedlings' lives were spent in front of a SE window during the day, and back on the Heat mat set at 78F with a humidity dome at night.
I gradually brought them outside for an hour the first day on 6/19, 2 hours the next and so on. I actually buried the Cow Pots in the soil temporarily when I had them outside to keep the soil temp down and so they didn't get dried out. It worked great!
Once they reached the ceiling of the dome I figured they were strong enough that they didn't need the heat mat anymore. Time to transplant.
Transplanted to 5 Gallon Root Pouches with Coast of Maine Bar harbor Blend potting soil on 6/23 and they had a wonderful afternoon outside.
Moved them into the hoop house on 6/24 and they adjusted really well.
From Fastbuds Website:
Green Crack Auto
"Description: An autoflowering hybrid that packs a punch with 20% THC, making her well suited for fans of potency. Easy to grow and maintain from start to finish, needing only 8-9 weeks from seed to harvest, where she will yield huge amounts of high-quality bud. Her pleasant and uplifting effects combined with her smooth tropical mango flavor make this strain a favorite for many. With copious amounts of resin that produce potent and tasty top shelf extractions, this strain is great for novice and expert growers alike, in search of great flavors and mass production.
Bud description: Green Crack Auto will produce buds that are long, pointed, and thoroughly encrusted in trichomes. The flowers are a light green hue, covered in thick short hairs that wrap themselves around each calyx. Extra sticky and with an elongated hard to squeeze appearance.
Smoke report: Energetic, invigorating, and stimulating effects, that become extremely focused and euphoric. An excellent strain for keeping sharp, and getting through a busy day or a to-do list, and boosting creativity to another level. This lady has a feel-good factor that is the ultimate pick-me-up and ideal for social scenarios, long walks in nature, gaming, musicians, and anyone else who enjoys a cerebral boost with added focus and energy.
Plant Appearance: Reaching around 60-90cm and growing with a bushy and dense characteristic, she won’t stretch much and will fill out each internode with thick, frosted buds that become totally pearl white by the end of flowering. There will be a large number of side branches surrounding one main central cola, that grow similar to a Christmas tree shape. Her fat buds are heavily coated in trichomes that will develop with tightly compact calyxes wrapped in electric orange pistils, making Green Crack Auto easy to trim and a very impressive and super frosty hybrid.
Grow Tips: Thanks to her uniform and homogeneous characteristics, we recommend growing Green Crack Auto closely together in a SOG style, to really maximize your grow space. She can take a big feed and will keep asking for more, so be prepared to increase the E.C of your nutrient solution when growing her indoors or outdoors. She shouldn’t exceed higher than 100cm, so can be easily grown outdoors with discretion, especially if you tie her down during her first weeks of growth. Staking the side branches for support will help the plants from toppling over. Be warned she is a monster producer and grows thick and fast.
Flavor: An infusion of spicy fruity, floral, and fresh mango. A proper lip-licking aftertaste that is only emphasized on the exhale. A real delightful and tasteful experience that will have you coming back to the curing jars for more."
These ladies are doing well!
They got their first feeding on 6/27, prior to that I figured they were getting enough nutrition from the soil, and I didn't want to burn them.
I fed them the same Alaska Fish Fertilizer 5-1-1 that I use with my photoperiods. I only fed them a little the first time, maybe 1/2 cup, waited a day, and then gave them a full cup on 6/29 so I'm just gradually increasing.
I do want them to put out more growth, since there's only a limited amount of time before they flower, but I don't want to stress them out either. But now that they're taking feeding well I'm going to ramp things up from here on out. I also wanted to make sure they'd adjust from the well water I used when they were in the house to the stream water I use in the garden/hoop house. I know that the stream has a higher iron content, and of course it has plenty of critters living in there.
Overall, things are going well and I'm really excited. I love seeing their growth from day to day!
It's been a full week for these girls!
They were moved out of the hoop house into the pathway next to their older and bigger photoperiod sisters on 7/5.
And then on 7/7 they got topped.
I fed them 4 times this week with the Alaska Fish Fertilizer.
I'm really glad I took as many photos as I did because it's a joy to see their clear progress from last week😇
These ladies are definitely ahead of where other autos I've grown in the past have been at this stage so I'm certainly happy about that, because last years' were pathetic😞
It won't be long now until they switch to flower so I'll need to keep a close eye on them😜
This week I decided it was time to employ some LST. Really I should have just done LST and not topped them, aside from the largest one which responded well. They weren't putting out fast enough growth to take to topping well, and I've learned my lesson. That's why my autos haven't done so well in the past.
I'm still learning😬
So in order to get as much as I can out of them as we enter flowering, we're doing a little LST this week.
Earlier in the week I did have to bring them in the hoop house on 7/11 because we got a lot of rain that day, our basement flooded and the water got so high in the stream that it washed the bridge out. So I think I made the right decision otherwise they may have gotten lockout.
I also changed their feed a bit. I added in some Neptunes Harvest Fish Fertilzer 2-4-1 with the Alaska 5-1-1 in equal portions on the 13th and will continue with it tonight. I may add a little molasses as well.
Most of what I was trying to accomplish with each plant is explained in the video. Enjoy!
Second week of flowering and honestly I'm happy with where they're at😃
The smallest one that has the upright habit won't amount to much, but the other two girls have responded well to training and have really stretched in the past week👆
We had a big, fast moving thunderstorm 2 days ago that came out of nowhere and dumped some seriously heavy rain for about 20 mins, heavy enough that it knocked out our power overnight. In my haste to get everything I needed around the house out of the weather, I didn't have time to grab these girls and throw them in the hoop house. I was concerned about lockout, so fingers crossed that they'll be fine🙏
They got 2 fairly heavy feedings this week, and I'll have to wait a day or two for them to dry out before I feed again.
The middle child, in between the biggest one and the upright, I adjusted the plant ties on the 2 top branches. Previously I had tied the upper fan leaves back because the top branches were too small, but with the stretch this past week they came up nicely so I had enough to work with👍
Really great week for these girls!
I'm very happy with the amount of early flower stretch I got out of the 2 larger girls. While the 'Little One' won't amount to much, the other 2 I'm really excited for the finish.
I made a short video this morning to give ya'll a closer look.
They got one feeding consisting of the Hydrolyzed Fish/Rose&Flowering/Molasses and then another feeding of just the Fish/Flowering this week.
It's been a big week for these girls and I have a LOT of photos as well as a video. It's a lot to rearrange because I should have uploaded them in better order. Maybe I'll fix it later, but for now most of the content from 8/5 is before 8/1
On 8/1 I purchased some spent hardwood substrate blocks from a local mushroom farmer down the road. I crumbled them around the base of each plant. My main reasoning was because of the Night Nurse that's been having some problems, but in the end I think all the plants will benefit from the added mycelium, especially during this flowering phase. The mycelium will spread through the root network allowing a greater uptake of nutrients in trade for sugars, which I'm supplementing in the form of molasses.
I also defoliated the fan leaves on 8/5 since we're only a couple weeks from harvest. I think it was a good sign that those leaves were strong and weren't easy to come off. We got a lot of rain that day!
These Green Cracks are going to be ready to harvest in another week or two, hoping it's two.
They got a feeding earlier this week and I'll have to water today, but I feel like from here on out maybe it's time to flush.
I also discovered some mold on Big Sister since it's been very hot and humid this week which isn't good.
I think this afternoon I'm going to have to move these ladies into the hoop house.
Otherwise the smell is fantastic and the colas are stacking up!
Yet again I'm playing catch-up on updating these diaries😩
Had to move the autos into the hoop house due to the rain and humidity. Despite this I'm still getting some mold. The humidity is relentless, it's like 85-90% humidity at 80-85F. It's ridiculous😵
Noticed some aphids so I sprayed with Spinosad.
Just flushing with water now. Some mushrooms growing out of the crumbled substrate is good👍 The mycelium will continue to pull all the nutrients out of the soil and trade with the plants for sugar.
Getting closer to finish but I'm definitely getting worried. The humidity hasn't broken and I'm still having issues with mold. I'm trimming off what I can, and keeping my eye on those trichomes.
It's a catch 22; harvest too early and you'll have fewer cannabinoids, harvest too late and the mold will ruin a good portion of your harvest. I was hoping that by having autos finishing while it was still summer would decrease my chances of mold, but mother nature is definitely spiteful. That's what we get for trashing the planet...
Still just flushing with water.
I'm going to have to chop them soon.
Harvested on day 71
Little One: 44g
Middle Child- 171g
Big Girl- 227g
I had to cut them because the mold was spreading. Technically this was in the harvest window but I really wanted more amber in the trichs since it was only around 15%. But hey, I wanted some light daytime medicine so this will certainly be light, just not as many cannabinoids as I would have liked, but I'm a bit of a lightweight anyway.
As with all of the plants I've harvested in the past I washed the buds with 1/4 cup each of lemon juice and baking soda in 5 gallons of warm water with a plain water rinse. Actually that's not true, there was one plant I harvested last year that I didn't wash because I was short of time and that one was taken over by mold while drying so that was proof enough for me that washing works!
After washing I hung them in the upstairs of my barn form a clothesline and set up an oscillating fan.
I'll have more for you after they're dried and I do a final trim and weigh.
