Alright!
Well first off I do well under pressure. That is the only reason I grew this way. I'm one of those people that once I get started, I invest my time and energy into it. So once I got this aerogarden as a gift I knew what I had to do...
Get a pack of seeds, plant them, and figure out everything on the fly. I'm almost at harvest now and I thought it would be good to fill out a diary documenting all the mistakes I made and the steps I took to turn it around!
One of them looks a little strange, and she does the whole time.... in hindsight I would of scrapped her and planted a new one.
I will also add:
Just aerogarden plant food
No PHing
No climate control
Just on my counter, sending itttt
So just letting it grow, nothing special, actually quite the opposite. The next few weeks will be all over the place, I was out of town for work and the plants started to really not look good.
I knew the problems, getting to close to the light, as well as pot size. They were running out of root space fast as well as getting light burn
Alright!
So almost a month later, like I said in the last post both shame/time are the reasons I didn't take pictures for over a month.
So I was basically at a point where I was going to throw these bad girls out. I didn't really have enough money for the set up I wanted, and didn't want to compromise.
So then I compromised there was a huge sale on YOU GUESSED IT, another aerogarden
Why, Azula, why.
It was a quick solution though! And I don't regret it, it saved me in this situation.
I topped the plants/defoliated mainly picking off the dead leaves
Oh, I also found a crazy sale on a tent/vent kit
So I splurged and got that as well.
Alright,
So it didn't take me long to realize this isn't the set up I wanted! (surprise, surprise)
I decided I would make a list of everything I needed to get, and start picking it off when things would go on sale. I also decided to cut my losses, flip these girls to flower, and get it over with. I was pretty pesemmistic at this point and just wanted to start over with a new set up.
I put zip ties around one cola on each plant securing it to the frame of the aerogarden. Trying to spread out the canopy.
Well, I ended up buying everything I wanted.....
So the first bit showed up in the mail, my USB microscope. I wanted to try it out so I took some terrible pictures with it.
Bare with me on this one folks, I never thought I would be posting these photos. At this point in time I didn't even know this website existed.
I did I pretty good defoliation, over my weeks of continuly hurting these girls I finally got it through my head. These are weeds, they can handle a lot of stress, stop worrying, this isn't a lost cause.
BEST WEEK!
All my stuff I ordered came in! So I was debating if I should actually switch everything over....
Then obviously I switched it all over, because who can wait?! Also I figured anything I could do to help these girls get a better higher yeild I'm doing it.
So I moved in my tent with my Spider Farmer SE3000, my Alfred DWC 4 bucket system, and proper General Hydroponics nutrients.
So, I set it all up, made my nutrient solutions, brought down the ph to 6, and did some more defoliation. I have to say what a game changer! It felt like over night these when from plants to freaking shrubs. I was cursing myself for not just taking the time and buying this stuff right off the hop.
However,
I will say using the aerogarden farm to now start my seeds is nice.... is it necessary? Fuck no. Quite over kill actually.
Well, I'm feeling a lot better!
First two pictures are a before and after of switching my equipment. It's never too late thats my advice for this grow.
A few things I have behind the scenes that I added to this grow:
PH tester, before I was jist using tap water, which when I tested mine is always somewhere around 8.
Clip fans: put two in the tent to help circulate the air... I did have them on a timer, however I've moved to constant exhaust/fans running now.
Timer: for my light, this bad boi doesn't program like the aerogarden, so I've moved on to that.
Hydrometer: tells me my temperature and humidity in the tent
Pruning sheers: I don't even use these, I honestly just pluck the leaves when I defoliate... I think they will come in handy for trimming.
Other stuff I've already mentioned, USB microscope, exhaust kit, all that jazz.
Alright,
A couple things to cover this week.
First off, I started to get nutrient burn when I first transplanted the plants. I've done some reading, and learned lot of growers use General Hydroponics nutrients at a 1/4 strength when growing hydroponically.
Well fuck.
So basically I decided to only add PH'd water from my initial transplant date, which seemed to work for a couple weeks.
Second thing:
Remember how I said one of them came out a little strange? Around week two I mentioned it. Well through out the grow she just looked strange. I thought she hermed, checked over and over again. I couldn't figure it out. The buds were small kind of all over the place. Lots of space, almost thin and long. Then about week ago she started to fatten right up into three massive colas. Looks further behind the rest.... I don't know I honestly think it's a different strain. Well what can you do! The last few photos are dedicated to this plant in its different stages. Very bazaar
So this week I added some nutrients finally. Then a did a huge defoliation, won't be much longer now until harvest. A lot of the top buds are done, but because I had such an uneven canopy the lower buds are pretty undercooked.
I might wait a little longer.... we will see, I hope the defoliation will help speed things along.
The girl in the back right will need a few more weeks I figure. Much longer than the rest
