For my second grow I'm basically running it back with all the same strains from grow #1 (-Jelly Bananen), with the addition of Mimosa EVO, which will be receiving most of the attention throughout this journal, since it is the new strain being introduced into the mix.
I'm changing up the nutrients for this run. After hearing nothing but positive reviews and praise, grow #2 will be fed using Nectar for the Gods.
Welcome to the journey. 🙏
Plants not looking as good as they were in their Solo cups. I suspect the roots are struggling for oxygen in their mediums. With the combination of my soil mix containing far too much worm castings and using plastic pots this time around, I seem to have overwatered all of my plants. The worm castings are retaining too much water and its taking too long for the medium to dry out, even with all the extra perlite I added. For this reason, I took all the plants out from under the Spider Farmer in the 4x2, and under the 315w LEC from Sun System inside the 4x4. I figure the heat given off by the LEC fixture will aid in increased evaporation.
I was not prepared to fuck something up in the beginning of my second grow, especially overwatering. Alas, I am doing things a little different than I had the first time around, so I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Just have to get the plants to bounce back from this initial struggle and they'll be well on their way.
Thanks for stopping by!
I'd like to start off by saying I don't have many high quality pictures from the early weeks of the veg stage this cycle. My plants were undergoing loads of stress and I was facing new obstacles I had not encountered in my first grow. A lot of this was brought on myself due to me changing up too many variables for the grow. For this reason, I felt discouraged to take many pictures while I was in the process of aiding these plants back to good health.
These fan leaves are getting too massive to keep attached to each plant. The foliage completely blocks light from piercing through to the soil. I suspect that feeding of Nectar for the Gods last week has something to do with this impressive boost in growth.
Overall, not impressed with how things are going so far, but I'm going to keep chugging along. I'll be forced to transplant into my 5 gallon fabric pots real soon to give these roots some air to breathe after each watering.
Yet another learning moment: I've been watering using distilled water to water/feed so far. Initially I thought I was just going to adjust pH between 6.1-6.4 and roll with it. Unfortunately, at the time I was taking measurements with my new BlueLab pH pen, I did not realize it was unable to take readings in distilled water as it needs ions to function properly. Total noob mistake. So with that said, my last couple of waterings have been WAY off on the pH and my runoff is coming out with pH somewhere around 5.4 and this is bad. I feel like a flush is incoming and I'm not looking forward to it.
Aside from that, I topped another plant and applied some low stress straining to all 4. They are not looking pretty right now. Mimosa EVO was apparently quite fragile, because one of her branches cracked at the node and split open. I'm going to keep the branch attached and hope that it recovers just fine and life goes on.
ABOUT THE RED X's:
These plants were germinated from some bag seed found in a batch that came from one of the cultivators we carry in our dispensary. Bubba Fett was the strain the seeds came from, wildly popular strain in Colorado & Missouri. I knew before germinating that it was going to be a gamble on these seeds. Unfortunately, I found what appeared to be the the beginning stages of pre-flower pollen sacs. I discarded these plants a few days after transplanting into my 5 gallons, as I did not want to take the chance of my garden being pollinated in the future.
Not much going on this week. Applied more low stress training and tied down some more branches to expand the canopy. The American Pie #1, in particular, is responding incredibly well to the LST and looks great!
Killed the 2 suspected male plants, now the garden is at 4 plants. This seems like maximum capacity for 5 gallon pots anyway.
As the pH continued to drop drastically low in my runoff (down to 3.3), I made the decision to do a flush on every plant and do a fresh feeding of nutrients. The labor that was put into flushing these plants was incredibly grueling. It took about 10-11 hours to complete the task. Never again do I want to have to do a flush. I used 7 gallons of water on each 5 gallon pot while utilizing the bath tub as a drain. This was back-breaking labor. NEVER AGAIN. 😂
On a good note though, the flush was successful and in the end all the plants got a nice feeding before being placed back in the garden. Things should start looking better in the coming weeks as the plants recover from the immense stress placed upon them. I hope.
WEEK 6 (08.11.2021 - 08.17.2021)
I was originally not going to use a SCRoG net, due to the lack of space in the 4x4. Decided last minute to install net after I found it at my local hydroponic store.
Plants are all looking great since the flush and new nutrients. The LST on the Mimosa looks a little weird after I damaged a couple of branches and snapped one almost completely off, but she's still growing strong. Aside from that, each plant is looking fantastic and growing more vigorously than its sisters from the previous run. I don't think I'm going to do a full 8-week veg this time around. Maybe another week.
I have to admit that I am thoroughly impressed with the Nectar for the Gods line so far. Granted, this is my second run, with a completely different nutrient line than before. Previously I was using Fox Farms Trio, so maybe its just not even fair to compare the two? But either way, I'm hooked on Nectar. I love it. The plants love it. We all love it here.
12/12 LIGHT CYCLE initiated on 08.16.2021 so I'm expecting by the 22nd or 23rd the girls will be showing the first pistils.
Week 1 (08.22.2021 - 08.28.2021)
First pistils started to appear on all four plants on 08/23, which would be on day 7 from the switch to 12/12. Officially in flower and it feels great. The tent is starting to produce a beautiful stench and the girls are looking magnificent while stretching for the light. Healthy and green.
The plants in this run look almost twice the size as my first run did at this point. I'm actually a little worried I'm going to run out of space to raise my light up, if needed. A good problem to have, I guess?
Anyway, the real fun stars here. Looking forward to seeing these ladies in their final stages of life.
Week 2 (08.29.2021 - 09.04.2021)
Nothing much to report this week. The ladies are looking fantastic. The canopy is from wall-to-wall. The stretch seems to have slowed down quite a bit. However, I've raised my light up as high as it will go with the rope ratchets. If the canopy gets much closer to the light fixture I'm going to have to figure out a way to create some distance. Tying down some branches at this point would be a real pain in the ass, so I'm trying to avoid that.
Thank you for stopping by and checking out the progress as we delve deeper into the flowering stage. 2 weeks down, about 7 more to go! See you next week. 🙏
Week 3 of flower and the garden is looking great! I'm living for the aroma that fills my entire apartment each time I unzip the tent.
The pre-flower stretch is pretty much over at this point. Maybe a few more days left.
Mimosa EVO stretched the most after the 12/12 switch, followed closely by the Glookies.
American Pie #1 remained relatively short compared to American Pie #2, and the other 2 cultivars.
With that said, the canopy isn't as even across the top as I would like. I can't really complain too much though because there are so many colas.
Did a light defoliation in addition to lollipopping. My LST job is looking pretty good.
My next grow I should have my technique more zeroed in, with an even canopy across the board.
Onto week #4! I'll see you all there. 🙏
So it has begun... I've had to start utilizing string to hold up branches by tying them to the ceiling rods and surrounding equipment. These plants are healthier and happier than my first grow, so I wasn't quite expecting them to blow up like they did, therefore my single-layer screen was not enough to support the branches. Not to mention the net used was store-bought and kind of sucks. I prefer my double-layer from the first harvest.
The Mimosa is packing on some major frost, followed closely by the Glookies. American Pie trichomes seem to appear and ripen much closer to the ending stages of flower.
