Week 3. Vegetation

MMSS21 Transplanted into individual small pots. They are living in my unheated greenhouse so day temps heat up nicely in the sun. Soilless media, equal parts perlite/vermiculite/coir.

MMSS21 Plants are stretching. They are thirstier, drooping by the end of the day. Daily watering. Baby mantis is paying a visit.

MMSS21 Late June - final transplant into 7gal fabric pots. Same soilless media. Fresh new Osmocote 15-9-12 with micros 3-4month version. Plants are now going fully outdoors in an area with unobstructed full day sun. Thin bamboo stakes are helpful for the occasional windy thunderstorms.

MMSS21 Happy July 4th! Continued good growth. Here we have 4 plants of Wedding X Gelato. 2 other weaker seedlings were given away to friends. There is also 1 plant of the Critical strain - free "gift" with the other seeds. Pretty much daily watering. I occasionally supplement with liquid Algoflash.

Week 11. Flowering
4y ago
MMSS21 All 5 plants have begun flowering and stretching around the same time: right as July becomes August. One of my Wedding Gelato plants was topped back around week 4 and now has 2 main stems but one is slightly dominant over the other.

Week 13. Flowering

MMSS21 Continued stretching and flower development. Algoflash feeding has been more regular now, older leaves have been showing signs of mild N deficiency. These plants are hungry!

Week 17. Flowering

MMSS21 At this stage I need to protect the buds from rain. As needed I move the pots under an overhang for protection. The mix is very light so carrying these is not too difficult. One of my plant's branches are being weighed down. Heavy buds.

MMSS21 214 ounces! And that does not include a bunch of popcorns that I don't have time for. 1st Wedding Gelato Sept 26, 35oz 2nd WG Oct 3, 48oz 3rd WG Oct 5, 36oz 4th WG Oct 6, 26oz Critical Oct 9, 47oz Mix small buds Oct 10, 22oz I have a drying rack inside a grow tent with dehumidifiers running. Some wet trim: if I can see the petiole, I cut the leaf. After drying, yield is around 3.5lbs. Remarkable considering I only used 7gal pots. I have many yrs experience with exotic plants. Here in NY, I grow cycads, flowering plumerias, tree Aloes among other things. What I have learned is that any pot substrate must be 100% inorganic. It is not possible to maintain a stable environment in a pot to support microorganisms. Pure nutrients and nothing more is what works for me. No organic stuff whatsoever, I am floored by all the nonsense products like amino acids, hormones etc to try and boost growth. I did not flush. Another trend that makes no scientific sense. I only withheld watering for a few days just to kind of kick start the drying process. RQS data sheets would have predicted about 4lbs total yield in ideal in-ground outdoor conditions. I almost reached that number. I did have to deal with some bud rot although it seemed confined mostly to 2 out of the 4 Wedding plants so I wonder if this is a genetic phenotype variation. Flower structure also differed in the 4 WG plants. Critical had the fluffiest buds and the most bud rot. Most of the bud rot was associated with caterpillar/moth damage. Since I had such a large harvest, I had no problem trimming away the diseased buds. Next time I may consider preventive BT spray early in flowering. Critical is known to be humid-sensitive and the last few wks we've had very humid days.
