Germination

I got a number of seeds from an independent source. They are all Blue Dream strain and from the same mother plant. For the germination I am using two of the seeds. Seed 1 - Soaking in water for 15 hours then transferring to paper towel Seed 2 - Directly to paper towel method. No pre soaking Thought i would try these two methods as I have never tried them before. In the past I have always gone direct to soil. Curious to see if they have a better result for me. I used distilled water at room temperature. At time of soaking/towel it is 24 C/75 F degrees. Wish me luck with the grow. On the 15/10/21 (2 days after starting germination process) both of the seeds had opened and the taproot was showing. I note that there didn't seem to be a difference between the seed that soaked and the seed that went directly into the paper towel. The seeds were planted into jiffy pellets. On the 17/10/21 both seeds had sprouted, both had the seed case and inner seed membrane stuck to the cotyledons. I manually removed them with water and a skewer. Additionally, I noted that the taproot on one of the plants had gone through the base of the jiffy pellet so I transplanted into a cut up water bottle measuring 10cm/4inch tall. I used soil from more jiffy pellets to make the substrate to try and prevent transplant shock. I have both plants under fluorescent lights. I will keep them under there for the first 2-3 weeks on an 18/6 light cycle. The lights I am using are the Osram L 36W/865 bulbs. They are 39 Watts, have a color temperature of 3600K, color rendering index Ra >80 and 3150 lumens. T8 bulbs (i am using 2 of them) approximately 20cm/8inch from the plant.

SEEDLING WEEK 1 I am going to call this and next week the seedling weeks, or until a couple of sets of leaves have come through. So far everything is going nicely. The first set of serrated leaves are slowly getting bigger since it sprouted on the 17/10/21. It is now the 20/10/21. The plants have grown to between 2-3 inches and I have moved the light to 4 inches from them. I moved it closer to try and prevent stretching of the seedlings which appears to be working. I spray them either once or twice a day with regular tap water from a spray bottle. The 18/6 light cycle seems to be doing well and I don't have any light burn. It is now the 23/10/21. Yesterday (friday) I noticed some yellow and browning of the leaves on one of the plants. It appears to be heat stress. I have raised the lights 2 inches, making them 6 inches from the top of the plants now. Additionally, I have changed the light cycle from 186 to 16/8. I am doing this so that the plants have longer to use the energy absorbed throughout the day and put it to good use. The other plants, which is about 1/2 an inch shorter has no evidence of heat stress on it.

SEEDLING WEEK 2 Second week of seedling growth. Both plants have started developing their second set of serrated leaves. Both look healthy. The light is still 8 inches above them with no further issues. I have started giving them a diluted amount of seaweed concentrate at 2ml/L. Also of note they have started requiring watering every 2-3rd day. The end of week 2 and the plants are looking healthy. I have started giving them a diluted solution of Nitrosol, a plant food with high nitrogen and potassium. I am using a 40% solution. One of the plants has developed their 2nd true set of leaves and is pushing their 3rd whilst the other plants is pushing through their second set. I am expecting to transplant them into their final ports at the end of next week, this is determinate on their growth. Their final pot will be a 50L fabric pot.

WEEK 3 SEEDLING This week the plants have started strengthening the stalk and the fan leaves are getting larger. I have transplanted them into 1L pots with a mix of 50% potting mix 30% perlite and 20% Coco. Additionally, I started providing them plants with a dilute (30%) solution of nitrosol - as seen in the picture. I have noticed that one of the plants has been experiencing the very start of heat stress. I have raised the lights another 1 inch to compensate.

It's been an interesting week. After topping them last week, there has been considerable growth from the new sites as shown in the pics. I reported them into larger pots. I'm going to do incremental potting rather than planting into final pot. I'm doing this as overwatering has got me before. I have been feeding them a stronger solution of the nitrosol and they have developed toxicity. As such I have cut it out of the feeding for the next few waterings and will add back at 3/4 strength. I have had to change the indoor grow portion of the grow slightly as my cat had kittens and they have taken residence to the grow room and pooped everywhere. They are cute though

This week the tops continued to grow out and have started their second nodes. The lower leaves on both plants have mild chlorosis. I have determined that this is from the sun when I was finishing hardening them off we had a small heat wave. They are currently spending 8 hours a day in the direct sunlight and the other 10 hours under the grow lights. I am considering topping the side branches that can be seen in the photos. Nutrients remain the same.

The plants are a healthy green with some new growth this week. It has been rather slow growing. I am attributing this to either the heat or the soil. I am going to transplant into a 10 gallon pot next week. It will be a fabric pot. I am also going to put much better soil in the transplant as I believe that the soil I used, the plant doesn't like.

I have done some LST to the second plant who's branches weren't long enough to feed through the wire prior. Growth is still slow and I'm not too sure why. I thought it was from the heat from being outdoors however I have moved them inside for about a week now and no change.
