Entering this a little late, on Tues. Its still on germination level nutrients because the first true leaves haven't formed yet and I didn't want to torch the plants with my big light. I will probably up the nutrients later this week if I have time.
Light is about 40% right now.
I am using a fallponics system from Gary at PA Hydroponics. I wanted more automation over my last system which were 4 standalone buckets that I had to drain and fill each week during bloom. This way, I can manage nutrients and pH via the reservoir bucket located outside the tent. I like the wide pipe between each bucket to prevent backups. Lid is a little funky; I had a hard time dropping the seedling plug deep enough into the netpot to touch the water while also blocking all the light through the netcup because its so deep. The clay pebbles are sloped pretty good and slide sometimes. Brilliant design I could have easily made myself, but I just didn't have the time with starting a new job.
I recalculated the nutrient schedule using the highest potency here: https://edge.generalhydroponics.com/www/uploads/20210121184300/FloraSeries-Basic-Feed-Charts.pdf
Temps in Phoenix rn are good, 80 during the day and 50 at night.
Drained and refilled the reservoir after 2.5 weeks or so of it in there. It was starting to have a slight odor.
Refilled with 39 gallons of water total. I filled the outside reservoir to 28 gal, turned pump on, kept filling until 33 gal and stopped. I then topped off the plant sites with additional water to a total of 39 gal.
I added nutrients for 40 gal. Initial pH was 7.4. Then added 225ml total of ph down. levels fluctuated but seem to rest at 5.3pH. Low but fine. I don't have ph up to counter it with.
All plants seem fine. #1 and 2 looking stronger but got out of their seed jackets 3-4 days earlier so they are ahead. They will all look uniform after the first topping.
Everything looking good! Some root exudate early in the week with warmer temps and the roots starting to mature.
pH set at 5.3, slowly creeped to 6.1 at EOW.
Topped above 3rd node this time. Also removed top fan leaves that were covering new growth. I will top each plant once more for a total of 4 vines to live under the scrog net. Maybe next weekend.
#1 and 2 have been growing faster than the others.
Light was mostly at 80% all week, 24". 100% for the last 2 days. Color is nice and green, a tad yellow.
Continuing to let the plants elongate stems so I can bend them horizontally. Plants were fine all week, no issues. Didn't defoliate much.
Deciding to start the 12/12 stretch now. All plants have 4 stems and are about 6" each and growing. This should give me 16 main branches to grow horizontally. If there are too many, I will cut some off. I think it will grow out fine from this stage based on online reading and rereading last grow's journal.
Starting Week 6! Afraid I switched to flower too soon and it may flower before its done filling the tent. All went well over the week leading up to W6. Just starting to stretch and hoping for more.
Each plant was originally topped twice, giving 4 stems to grow under the screen. I believe stems on #2 have reached the edge of the back of the tent, so I topped two stems there to let the side shoots grow at a right angle to the stem. This should fill the corners of the tent well.
Beginning of this week I LST each stem on all plants down using 16 gauge wire. Hydro is nice as you have lots of things to hook LST wires to. #1 and #2's top stems split as a result which I mended with grafting tape and loosened the wire holding them down.
I did not refill water and left the nutrient level the same as last week. did not top off either. The plants aren't using too much water as they are small and air temps are not high. It is arid here in winter, but our Jan monsoon season has rolled in early giving us a solid 7 days of rainy weather now.
#3 and #4 are growing slower than 1 and 2 for some reason. All, things are equal. I did put the two more-vigorous growing plants in the back so perhaps it is a variance in this breed. Interesting observation though.
Small is just starting to pick up. Fan leaves are thick. #1 had some rusty leaves on its lowest set of fan leaves this week, which I clipped off for now. #3's growth site has a small fan leaf with a streak of yellow in it which is interesting. Everything else is solid green.
Have not defoliated much at all other than pulling side choose under the screen. I'm afraid I pulled too many. Last grow I topped way too many times (I think 6 or 7 vs 2 here) so I at least didn't do that.
Doing a little bit of HST, breaking the inner membrane to encourage flat growth. I feel that too much HST leads to short stems between nodes and slow growth in general. Good way to manage a stretch period but counter-productive during veg when growth rates are manageable as it is.
Lights and fans have been on 100%. System is not leaking and all is well so far. I'm noticing the nutrient mix in the reservoir is of a different feel and pH than the growth buckets but not crazy. I am finding pH readings at the plant sites to be more accurate and precise between buckets vs readings in the reservoir.
If I remove a side shoot coming out of a stem, is there a chance another may grow out of that spot later? I'm afraid I removed too many side shoots during my scrogging but feel like more will grow back in a week lol. It grows so fast in hydro.
All seems well. Did not take any pics.
Broken stems on #1 and 2 not affecting growth. I think this strain has strong stems maybe or I am LST incorrectly? Stem on #3 broke today from HST but will probably be fine.
I upped the nutrients for Week 7. Topped here and there to keep the plant manageable. SCROG is def not the best due to difficulty bending these stems.
Light at 100% 24" high
All is going well. Spent 1.5 hours HST to flatten everything out. It went very well and should be set up nicely for flowering.
Flowers seem to be appearing soon
Minimal water usage. I did not drain and refill this week as everything is stable and nutes did not change from last week.
Will count cola sites in 2 weeks I think!
Flowered Tuesday 1/11! Everything is looking great. Broken stems are healed and strong. Strong main stems on each plant, stronger than my other grows.
About 14 plant sites on #1 and #2. 19 on #3 and #4. Subject to change
Spent about 1.5hrs LTS and HST to get it perfect. Should grow nice colas from now on. #1 and 2 are about 3 inches taller than #3 and 4
Defoliated a bunch. Plant used a lot of water this past week.
Didn't do a thing during the weekend changeover. Was in FL so water remained the same. I defoliated during the week. Just starting to bud out now.
I've been using pliers to HST the plants in 90 degree angles. Been really rough with the plants. All are responding well and spreading out a bit.
I high stress trained the fuck out of each plant. Really snapped them over with no mercy. I used needle-nose pliers to get into hard to reach spots. Only issue is the plant keeps growing back and repairing so quickly.
Buds forming everywhere and getting larger now. Just need a few weeks in this stage.
Defoliated thru the week. Water has been in there two weeks, looked and smelled great. Water was rather low though which is a good sign.
Today is Tuesday in week 12. Today is day 28 of flowering. Aiming for 8-9 weeks of flowering everything is fine. Buds getting large and sticky. The branches have mostly recovered from the supercropping. Next time, I need to supercrop earlier with two whips from each plant
I keep trimming back fan leaves but that is about it for activity this past week.
All is well, did nothing this week and added no water.
Buds are forming nicely
#1 is forming orange hairs sooner than the others. I looked at a sugar leaf under magnification and it is mostly milky.
Entering this week belated. All is well, gave it minimal amount of nutrients. My hard paperwork is more accurate on nutrients than this journal, FYI.
Two of the heavy stems that I supecropped have been sagging. One was laying on top of other buds. I added a second net and splinted the heavy branch.
