Hey everyone!
For this run I wanted to design my own custom box for people with very limited space like dorm rooms and studio apartments. Unlike other micro grow boxes it has a 4" inline fan with a 4x10 carbon filter instead of weak pc fans and those carbon filter sheets that do nothing to filter smell. The finished product sits at 30"h x 24"w x 18"d. I made my own pot by cutting up a couple 7gal fabric pots and sewing them together into a 19"w x12"d x4.5"h which comes to 4.5gal with very little vertical space taken up. I added a SCRoG to keep the plant low and take full advantage of the light. The intake port also acts as the breeze over the canopy. I'm using 3 6500k 40w CFLs for the first week, adding 4 2700k 42w CFLs in week 3, and then adding 4 150w 5500k CFLs once she starts flowering for a total of 890w. I've seen most pull .25g/watt with CFLs but I'm shooting for .15g/watt which will yield almost 5oz in 6.5cubic feet which I haven't seen done yet. Very excited 😁
UPDATE:
I scrapped the White Train Auto because it had slow growth and started a THC Bomb fem. this is a strain I've had good experience with training. I also added a dual 120mm intake fan to the box along with the full light setup. She is a week from sprout today and handling all the lights like a champ.
Week 2 was rough for both the plant and myself. My best friend was in terrible car accident Tuesday and airlifted to a hospital 2 hours away so I spent the whole night in the waiting room and missed a watering so she dried out and I thought she was done for. But just like my boy, she hung in there and is showing healthy green growth daily. She will be ready for topping in a couple days. My friend is still in the ICU and has a long road ahead but he's still very lucky to be here.
She was topped at the 3rd this week and cleared of node 1. She is responding a little slower than what I'm used to but that's to be expected with the rough life she's had already. The new growth is green and growing daily so I'm not sweating it. I'll start getting the shape I want once I can hook those tips.
She's starting to make a comeback this week. Solid amount of growth. Finally excited about this box again. I was ready to call it quits but I'm glad I hung in there. I figure she is about a week behind with all the stress but I have time to let her catch up
Not a bad week. Had some good growth and got a little dry at one point but not terrible. Still dialing in everything on this box so some challenges are expected. She will be ready for another round of topping in a couple days.
Made a major comeback this week. Stoked on this grow. I'm scrapping the SCRoG idea and focusing on the 20 shoots I've got going. Clearing all growth in the middle. My ambitious goal is to try and pull 5g dry per shoot for 100g dry. I know it's dreaming big but I'm going to give it my best shot
Killing it this week. Making the switch tomorrow. I will keep spreading the tips through the stretch but I won't be keeping them low. I'm going to let them get some vertical growth so the future buds can take advantage of all available light.
Made the switch this week and let her gain some vertical growth. I let the shorter tips pull into the middle of the plant while spreading the longer ones out more allowing each to get as much light as possible. Once she is done stretching I'm going to clean up the larger fan leaves and really open her up
The stretch is finished on this lady. Temp couldn't be more in control. I can't wait to see how she stacks. I scrapped the SCRoG idea and went with the way I'm used to training. I still used the top pvc square as anchor points for my tie downs.
One of the elbows on the fixture was loose and lowered a bulbs, getting a few tops a little crispy so I dropped the pot a half inch. Other than that we are trucking along. Probably another 4 weeks to go
On the home stretch, I’m thinking 1-2 more weeks and she will be ready. I couldn’t be happier with the way she turned out especially since I found the im running half the power I initially thought 👍
Grew exactly how I expected, thick stems that supported the fat buds with no problem. Smoke report will come after they are dry. Dried: the buds are very dense and puts off a very nice lemon scent which I’ve come to expect from this strain but this pheno also carries a very strong skunk aroma. The high comes on slow and then hits like a brick wall. Very strong grad high. Stare into space kind of high. This will not be a daytime strain for me lol
Bro she like to spread going of mine I’m on day 14 of flower today man and she will get that height have spent 2 weeks re adjusting my strings to pull branches back down. I need to spread mine more then height my light would bleach them up to now she’s awesome bro. Your plant looks excellent plenty of branching and good training man
@@Tryhard,yea it's a great strain. One had barely any stretch and one doubled in size. This one I'm running is looking like the one that doubled. Yours does too
@SlowerLowerGrower,so you have done this strain before and know her growth pattern. It’s my first one so the way she’s growing is new to me. She grows like a hybrid which I’m very happy with how long did yours flower stretch for mines day 14 today
nice box man, really nice! One thing is you don't have much headroom. Have you thought about putting the filter on the outside of the box? That would give you some extra room up top. Either way, nice job, I will follow....good luck with the grow!
@BeefWellingtons, thanks man, I built it for compact efficiency and stealth. Everything is planned around the vertical restrictions so we will see how it works out.
@Eauderay, thank you! 900 if you believe the advertised wattage but the 4 150w CFLs I’m told only pull 50w so I have a kill a watt meter on the way to know for sure
Nice box. My only concern would be air flow, do you have that covered? Such a small space but very innovative and nicely done. Maybe stick in a C02 bag.
@Kochanski, air moves pretty well since I added the intake fan but ExHale makes a small CO2 bag that I'm going to hang above the lights once I switch to flower and turn the 4 150w bulbs on. Thank you!
Lol, that light is crazy, maybe you should put the box under a smoke detector just in case, lol. It's funny you did this, I saw something like this on Amazon and I was thinking about adding the lights like you have.
@BeefWellingtons, the 7-1 socket is rated 60w per socket and the largest bulb I have is 45w and the socket it plugs into is rated for 360w. The 2-1 splitters are rated for 360w with 2 150w bulbs in each and the sockets they plug into are rated for 360w. All at 120v. Trust me I made sure everything is legit. I tested the sockets out, if you exceed the wattage they won't come on.
Does the scrog raise at all? What kind of temps are you seeing in there? Mine is 82 degrees with the door wide open and huge floor fan blowing on it. With door shut (no smells) it hits 88 or 89 degrees, which would be fine if I could get co2 in there and a water cooler unit to keep the water cooled (hydro grow). Maybe I'll experiment with a soil grow sometime.
@BeefWellingtons, nope it doesn't raise, that's as high as I'm letting the plant get. With 7 bulbs at 290w a few inches over the SCRoG it never went past 80F. I designed the intake right over the SCRoG for this exact purpose.
For someone who has more height to utilize what would you change in your technique to optimize yield, or would you keep things the exact same? I have been following you on Insta also, and see people can be very critical of you, but noone says anything constructive 😅.
@Raaneal, I'm going to keep taking her out so I can put more space in between each shoot. Then I'll let the get a couple inches of vertical growth before making the switch. I've only got 8"-10" of space from where she is now to the light. They just don't get it yet. I knew trying something different would rattle some cages. I don't take anything personally. There are a lot of supportive people on there. But there are a lot of rude people on there lol
Hey man I am glad she was saved in time but even more so that your friend is alive 🙏🏻 Hope everything is okay, wishing your friend all the best!! Life can be hard and unexpected at times, it’s tough 😩
