At the start of Week 3, the plant now has four nodes. We have decided to start the FIMming process since there won't be many weeks left til flowering. We were going to wait til the top leaf grew bigger, but thought it would take too much energy away from the FIMming process.
We also noticed root nodules at the base of the stem, so we'll be planting that under the soil when it gets re-potted in about a week. Apparently in tomato plants, extra roots will help produce bigger yields, so was hoping to test this out with the cannabis plant.
An organic slow-release fertilizer was added along with a seaweed solution, which helped boost some growth this week. Hand picking of bugs such as aphids and mites was conducted to avoid using pesticides.
Today the Northern Storm got re-potted into its 14L final pot. As mentioned in the last post, we would be planting it deeper by about an inch to encourage more roots to form from the stem up to the cotyledons (baby leaves). We also threw in a small handful of organic fertilizer and watered it in with a seaweed solution.
The FIMming has encouraged at this stage, six side shoots, which should form into sizable colas. There is also two at the tip where it was FIMmed as well as the main stem that could throw out more. Updates on these later.
The past week it was growing at a rate of 2cm a day.
The pre-flowers have put out on every side shoot.
We also got two side shoots growing on one side of a node. Not sure if this is common or not, but we sure feel lucky!
Finally getting some good flowers on most of the shoots. The double side shoot is coming along nicely, plus the shoot opposite has now turned into a double as well. Woah! Just my luck!
We've added some potassium to boost flower growth and we'll be doing this weekly until harvest.
A couple of bugs as well as red spider mites have been found but they don't seem to have caused any damage as we have been hand picking them off daily.
Very exciting week otherwise!
It has been a great week, buds are swelling nicely and developing lots of trichomes.
Had some odd brown spots on some leaves, not sure what they are from, seemed to happen overnight.
Otherwise, looking healthy and smelling sweet!
Height hasn't changed too much, mainly buds swelling sideways.
Trichomes very visible with a good aroma and sweetness.
Fan leaves got removed to help sunlight to penetrate and ripen the buds.
Lower branches are only starting to flower now, we'll probably need to harvest them at a later time.
We also decided to give her a photoshoot, she seemed to like it! :)
We couldn't wait any longer, tried out a few small buds, not as potent yet but was still giving out a nice buzz!
Has a nice fruity smell, much like red papaya with a blend of skunk.
Buds are fattening nicely with 40% of the pistils brown, so almost ready. Will probably harvest at the 80% mark.
The top colas were ready to harvest, but the lower half of the plant needs another week or so. A couple of colas and two extra buds are missing as they were used for testing out quality and flavor... Hence to this late update! :/
