@MG2009, I have holes drilled 2 inches above the bottom to create a reservoir for the roots (kind of hydroponic) so the perlite is just the medium I chose to sit them in, primarily because it dries out fast.

@MG2009, No, they were the color of the stems in that one unfortunately.
