@MG2009, I have holes drilled 2 inches above the bottom to create a reservoir for the roots (kind of hydroponic) so the perlite is just the medium I chose to sit them in, primarily because it dries out fast.

The plant with tape measure , are it's stems really that color or is it your light,?
