Round two, ladies and gentlemen! Apart from the different strain, this second grow will have a topped plant and a small nutrition addition suggested by my local grow shop. Since there where roots EVERYWHERE last time, I tried a bigger air pot. Let's see if this works out. If it's unnecessarily big, my friend's tomatoes will be happy with this pot next summer. Since I needed my GrowBox to dry my other plant, but was eager to get started with this one, I tried germination outside, using kitchen paper and a plastic container as suggested on the fast buds home page. It worked as advertised. :) Afterwards, when the tap root was about one centimeter, this happy little plant went directly into the soil. Again, I used the Biobizz Allmix with a small pocket of herb soil in it to get things started. I did not have perlite, so I used the much bigger clay to get some air inside. Not perfect, but alas, I'm slightly broke at the moment. Perfect has to wait until the next grow. I also read about root riot and wanted to try, but it's a little overkill to buy a pack of them when I can only use a single one every 12 weeks. I wish I had more grow space 😩 Anyway, I'm excited to see how this one turns out!

Last week was exciting, since the health ministry here suggested a quite progressive change of cannabis policy. (Kudos to love_2_grow for pointing that out!) If that became reality, up to 3 plants per person would be legal. No more small stealth closet. Let's hope that will work out. Also thanks (??) to love_2_grow, I have a big wish list and even more inspiration about how to grow in the future. I thought I started the whole thing well informed, but as it turned out, there is much more to learn about biological growing than I could have imagined. Looking back now on my first grow, I'm quite sure that I was over watering and over feeding, especially in the beginning. That, and unstable temperatures (especially the heat wave) seemed to be the main problems, as far as I can tell. I will try to avoid them this time. I'm still wondering if I should top this strain or if that's too much stress. Cherry Cola is said to have a big main cola and less strong side twigs. I imagine it's easier to get light everywhere when the main cola is missing. I think I will give it a try.

The plant ist growing happily. She grows slower than my first plant and I wonder if this is because I only started a little with nutrients on day 18 or if it's because of the different strain. Topped on day 19. I ordered some Clonex, but it didn't arrive in time, so I just added the top directly into a Root Riot cube. I don't have enough space for it to grow into a full plant, so it's just for fun this time. Let's see how this works out!

My new phone finally has a camera that makes good close-ups possible. I used it right away in last week's entry to document the topping. Unfortunately, the top didn't survive long, but the plant seems to be doing well. She had to endure defoliation too, since some leaves were touching the ground. Due to the cut and LST, the lady is not as big as she would otherwise be this week. But anyway, it looks like she won't be a giant this time either. I wonder what's keeping my plants from stretching the way I see in other diaries. Lack of nutrients? This time, I will use very limited additional feeding, but in my next grow, I will try green buzz nutrients. 🌱🧚‍♀️💪🌱🧚‍♀️💪🌱🧚‍♀️💪🌱🧚‍♀️💪🌱🧚‍♀️💪 Day 25: The cut-off top magically sprung back to life! I learned that you should never be impatient with these plants. (Thinking of growinggrannie's little Bruce here.) The rest of the plant also reacted nicely to the training, which I want to continue every other day.

An uneventful week of growing lies behind us, mostly to the sides. Not much stretching yet. Then again, I did a lot of lst, so that's probably my fault. In the course of one week, the twigs more than doubled in diameter. Pre-flower will begin shortly, so it seems topping did slow this one down a little but not significantly. The cut-off top is still doing weil and I wonder what to do with it. It's tiny. Will this one show flowers, too? If so, about what time? ✂️🎗️✂️🎗️✂️🎗️✂️🎗️✂️🎗️ Just let me grow in peace!! - my plant, probably. Today (day 31) she finally showed her first pistils and I will stop with the relentless low stress training. You did well, little one.

Strange things are happening in Kohlrabitown. My plant's color looks a little too light, and the stem developed air roots? Is this good or bad? By the end of last week, the stretch had started and the plant showed the beginning of some beautiful flowers. Just in time, because Green Buzz Nutrients sent me a very generous package to try their products and I'm really excited to do so. 💦🌿💦🌿💦🌿💦🌿💦🌿 Green Buzz Nutrients are organic nutrients, micro elements, plant aids and stimulators. They cater directly to the needs of cannabis growers, and I noticed that the company is highly evaluated in German grow shops. I'm looking forward to trying them out now to see if they're as good as their reputation. I'm a novice to nutrients (my poor house plants have to do without), so I'm planning to strictly follow GBN's feeding schedule. 🌿🍁🌿🍁🌿🍁🌿🍁🌿🍁 I removed about 5 fan leaves that were touching the soil or otherwise in the way. Generally speaking this plant's leaves are so huge and fat that I'm unsure how to help the buds to some light. I hope for more stretching and thus more vertical space to work with. By the way, I think I figured out what turned the stems purple in my last grow, because it happened again here, but this time I was able to stop it: the light intensity was too high. 🌈🐙🌈🐙🌈🐙🌈🐙🌈🐙 If you are interested in the nutrients line, here is a discount code. 25 % discount, minimum order value is 75 Euro https://greenbuzzliquids.com/en/shop/ Code: GD42025

My plant's new leaves'S color is much lighter than before and older leaves show a stripey pattern. Things that changed last week: flowering begun, we had two unusually cold nights and days, and a switch to different nutrients. Can someone tell me what's happening?

Hey Growmie, This normally only happens when you have nitrogen deficiency or when your ph is off, and this has me leaning more toward there being a problem with your ph. If the PH near your plant's roots is too low or too high, you will see light green leaves starting to emerge. Sometimes, it is difficult for your plant to absorb all the nutrients if its PH level is not quite right. This might result in nutrient deficiency, even if the nutrients are very close to its roots. Flush the plant and when you do check the ph of your run-off and see what that is it's more than likely going to be off.

Last week was not a good week for my plant. I might have overfed her, did not take enough care of the PH or the light was still too intense. In any case, the leaves turned a very light shade of green and some dry spots appeared. I turned down the lights and gave her plain water, then cut back on the nutes. She seems stable now and the dark color is coming back. Or so I hope. 😅 I'm not at home myself at the moment. Will update at the weekend. Sunday update: She looks great. 😄 🌈🐙🌈🐙🌈🐙🌈🐙🌈🐙 If you are interested in the nutrients line, here is a discount code. 25 % discount, minimum order value is 75 Euro https://greenbuzzliquids.com/en/shop/ Code: GD42025

This lady is back on track. I'm so glad her color is a healthy green again and she seems to take the new nutrition well. However, I had to do a rather heavy defoliation last week. Her huge fan leaves covered nearly all bud sites, and since she stretches so slowly (one might even say she is stunted), I had no way to solve this problem by tucking or cropping. She is already quite behind in schedule and this might set her back even more - I'm sorry! 🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁 Equally worrying is the fact that first pistils already turned brown, although the flowers are still tiny... 😭 Alas, I haved learned a lot and my next grow will be... at least different, if not better!

Right after my complaining that the flowers were tiny she bulked up 😁 I don't know if that is thanks to GBN "big fruits", but it certainly hasn't hurt. I'm so relieved! After electricity prices exploding, this hobby became unexpected expensive after all and it would be a shame had it been all for nought. Still small, but there is some development every day. I hope she still has two weeks in her, despite the coloration of the pistils.

The way she bulked up really surprised me. Her buds surpassed my first grow already, even though she had more problems on the way. And as @ClydeGrows predicted, she is not yet finished! I did quite a lot of defoliation and lst to get some light on the buds. Also, I reduced the nutrients as per recommendation. Trichomes completely cover flowers and leaves nearby. They are still mostly clear, so let's wait and see what next week will bring.

Not a smoke report, but a trip report, as I made this bunch into canna butter. I realize that makes it harder to compare, but it is what it is - I wanted some butter this time. 😋 Very nice, flowery aroma and very strong effect, compared to my usual butter.

Don't worry about your pot is too big. If anything, you would benefit from an even larger one. I know that people keep saying that size doesn't matter ;) but when it comes to growing in soil it definitely matters. Bigger is always better.

@kohlrabi, Indeed. I checked your strain as well and I found growers with big yields that didn't top and growers that did, as well as growers with low yields that topped and those that didn't top. There simply wasn't any clear pattern.

love_2_growcommented2 years ago
@Lecker_Lecker_Berlin, There is no such thing as too big pots, at least not when you grow in soil. Bigger is almost always better. Sure, there's a point of diminishing returns, but that doesn't mean that a larger pot would be bad.
kohlrabi
kohlrabicommented2 years ago

every strain is different, Girls look fine, and let them take the time tey need, they will take overdrive in any case, just be sure they have enough water, because the Airpots are tricky to water ( in my experience) start slow, let the soil soak and then water until runoff from the bottom then plants are happy
