Hello present and future growmies! Welcome to the start of week 9 for Queen Citronella. First things first, please go and check week 8, I update daily and the week is now complete. Day 57: Her majesty is parched and so overgrown in her space that I've decided to give her a haircut. It will hopefully make her easier to move about too. I've fertigated 10l today and performed LST adjustments and significant defoliation. Made a little collage to show the training I did. Day 58: Tried to colour correct photos. Any good? Day 60: Disaster! SOMETHING has gone horribly wrong! The Queen is unwell and now I shall try to figure out why. It seems like heat stress but I don't get how. Alright I think it is heat stress but I am not sure how, the temp hasn't gone above 26 degrees to my knowledge. Two things have changed this week first my house has been about 3 degrees warmer, and second I switched the main tent to 20 hours. I wonder if the additional time and the extra heat in the house has caused it to get too high. I have opened a flap at the side of her tent, and I am going to drop the light in the main tent down to 19h. As well as this I am now leaving a window open when the lights are on. Hopefully I can stop it getting worse but it is all over the plant. :( Okay soI think I have caused nute tox/shock - specifically I think what happened was an accidental big overdose of CalMag raising the EC too high. These symptoms came on way too fast to be a simple deficiency or lock out, and the PH wasn't so far off as to cause these issues. I've treble checked and the temp hasn't exceeded 26 degrees, nor dropped below 17. I flushed her through with PH water today approx 40 litres - until runoff was clear and correct PH. I am not going to nute her for a day or two. Day 62: I have ordered the queen a new tent. 75 x 75 x 200. She's still asleep at the moment but I'll photo her later. She's really taken a hammering from, what I now believe is, nutrient toxicity. Day 62: Her majesty is looking much revived compared with the last few days. I THINK she will be ok. I've made a video assessing the damage. Ouch. Sorry your majesty, please not off with my head! Day 63: Alright I have a new tent for her majesty arriving next week and I've new airflow for the main tent. She seems to have recovered from the burn and is stretching again. End of week summary: First big mistake and first serious issues for Citronella. Sorry about that. However she has now recovered and is growing again. I cannot undo the damage but I think I have halted any further damage. Let's see what happens next week.

Hello growmies, unfortunately Queen Citronella has taken ill. I think it is heat stress, but I wanted a second opinion so here I am.

@Breadandbuds, I will try, first I have some autos to complete, then I will flower clones of this plant. It is my favourite strain. After I will try others.

Just lovely, so glad I found your grows! I have never done auto flower myself, but I love the details and photos of your journals. You have the growing bug for sure like me and my growmies. Rock on!

UnorthadoxDudecommented2 years ago
@NorthEquinoix, I should point out that Citronella is this only photoperiod plant in this grow series [G2] all the rest are autos but she is a photo.
UnorthadoxDude
UnorthadoxDudecommented2 years ago
@NorthEquinoix, Thanks that's a nice thing to say! I haven't either, but my plan was to get something going quick that I could finish while I veg my Super Lemon Haze which then has a 10+ week flower to go. So for now I am experimenting with autos. We will see how I get on but frankly I am much more likely to move forward with photoperiod plants. I think the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. I absolutely do have the bug... in fact if you follow my diaries you can see the exact moment I got bitten. Karen & Bertha week 4. From there on in I started taking it quite a bit more seriously. Now I am in love with my little tent garden. I am learning so so much it is fascinating.

@Breadandbuds, Fingers crossed, to be honest at this point (it may be arrogant?) but I think my problems are going to stem from her growing too well. 😏

Beautiful grow, looks happy and healthy. I like the addition of other herbs, it seems if you grow tomatoes next to basil it influences the taste of the tomatoes. I wonder if that would be the same for growing herbs next to cannabis, I can only imagine it would. Best of luck!

@UnorthadoxDude, Amazing! I'll be sure to follow your grow and provide feedback, although I may not have much at this point as this is all new, but I'm sure I'll learn a lot. I love what you are doing with the concept of combining specific herbs with cannabis and it inspires me to do the same. I came to cannabis for medicinal reasons, I know what you put in you get out in regards to the medical relief. Thank you for the insight and I look forward to learning and talking more.

@MedicineMaker, Hey thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! If you do like any particular week(s) please click the like button on them so I know what's good and what needs work! :) The basil is intended to increase the terpene profile and improve the flavour; this is a fairly well researched interaction between basil and cannabis (and basil and tomatoes, and many multiple other fruits and veg). The german chamomile has the benefit of causing any plants growing near it to produce significantly more essential oils. It stimulates them to produce more, and gives them certain processed nutrients to help achieve that. As a wonderful by product I now have fresh basil whenever I want it, in fact I could supply the whole street. Very soon I will have a nearly inexhaustible supply of chamomile flowers which I will use for tea and for incense. The main part of the experimental nature of this second grow series I am doing is focused on quality. I am less concerned with pushing yields to the limit and more concerned with understand how the plants grow and how they react to various stimuli. Using organic methods and nutrition, and using companion plants, training technique and deliberate stressors at key moments (e.g. water, nutrient, light deprivation, etc). Being very careful about the drying and curing process, and being very patient with the latter in particular. What I want to achieve other than the learning/experimentation is extremely flavoursome high quality cannabis that offers me the appropriate medical relief for the right situation.

@UnorthadoxDude, Serious good work on the main stem HST πŸ‘πŸ‘ As for your situation, I truly wish that it all works out and you can bring all your family members with you to your new home. Good things come to good people. I'm sending positive energy your way if you believe in all that, I figure every bit helps!
UnorthadoxDude
UnorthadoxDudecommented2 years ago
@MedicineMaker, There is really something about this one isn't there? The HST with the primary stem has been the most effective training I think I have done so far in terms of breaking apical dominance; from the moment I did it it was like flipping a switch from "tall" to "bushy"; she stopped gaining vertical height and started getting more and more inter-nodes. I think she will be 3x or 4x her height in 2-3 weeks. As for my complications, well, rather unfortunately my living situation is disturbed and I shall be forced to leave in 6 weeks. At the moment I do not have any alternative option, so there is a quite real chance that I will need to abandon some or all of the younger grows, including the queen. I've never seen a homeless dude with a cannabis garden.

I'm catching up and just read over last weeks grow report, sorry to hear about what happened. Things are looking positive now from what I can tell. What was the cause, CAL/MAG overdose, how did that happen? Wishing the queen a quick recovery!
MedicineMaker
MedicineMakercommented2 years ago
@UnorthadoxDude, I can understand that, it is a lot of work and very time consuming. When I find myself in a hurry that is when I make mistakes. I certainly hope that you will not have to kill all the plants, not sure of your situation exactly and I understand the risk. You could probably get away with at least moving the youngest plants. The good news is you can always start over even though I'm sure it will hurt.
UnorthadoxDude
UnorthadoxDudecommented2 years ago
@MedicineMaker, So I have started being a bit more lazy with the measurements. Tipping the stuff into the pouring part of the bottle, then using a pippette is taking a lot of extra time compared to the other bottles where I use the cap. I am watering something like 40-50l per fertigation and it is a 10l watering can so it all adds up when you're using 7 different products like I am. As it stands taking all plants out and photographing alone takes nearly 2 hours. Fertigation takes a good hour at least on top of that. So I have been using the measuring part of the bottle and just tippng that, but i think I tipped it the wrong way and ended up pouring a good bit in by mistake. I believe I have fixed it now. She is looking better, the burns wont recover though. It should start to become easier over the next few weeks as Karen finishes. I have 4 or 5 weeks max before I have to move the plants, I do not know if Nesia can be done in that time, I doubt it somehow, and all the rest need longer. So I am facing two choices: Kill all the plants or risk moving them in a prohibition state.
