Hello and welcome to my very first grow! I'm using a set up that has been sitting boxed and unopened in my house for over 5 years. I'm that lazy. I have smoked weed for a long time and never once took the time to actually learn about the plant. I mean really learn. This is the beginning of me taking that step.
The seeds were bought from Sensi Seeds in Amsterdam over 3 years ago. I got 3 Silver Haze and a Sensi Sunk freebie.
For my inaugral grow I thought I'd try out 2 plants, one haze and the skunk. Day and night time smoke covered! This diary is solely covering the Silver Haze. There may be a few pics of both plants throughout and will do a separate diary for the skunk...although not much is different at all so far apart from germination health. I'm already a few weeks down the line with this grow so I'll be playing catch up trying to get everything logged before I forget it all.
The seed sprouted strong in under 2 nights and I decided to plant it straight into the large pot. (Probably my first mistake of many)
First leaves came through lop-sided and looking a bit deformed. Devastated. Not sure if I over-watered when planting or maybe the pot was too big, seed too old or possibly a mutant seed.
She grew even weirder and I nearly decided to cut my losses and start over but she still seemed to be growing strong so I gave her a chance to fight
The next leaves shot out still a bit weird but definitely an improvement. No way I'm giving up on her now!
I've logged the germination period to day 17 in the pics
Kept her in these conditions for around 2 weeks:
- lights 24hrs
- light spraying soil with water to feed only when needed
- no nutes
- temp around 19c
- humidity 50%
Apologies, I thought I had taken more pics over this period but sadly only 2 poor ones.
She's coming on amazing! All new growth is looking healthy. The mutated leaves are starting to wilt. I'm still not touching her yet, I want to stress her as little as possible until I'm 100% sure she's good.
Excited to switch the lights to 18/6. The LEDs are some cheap Amazon specials (SYGAVLED) that I bought years ago and they give off a small amount of heat (has a cooling fan on the top which helps air circ too!) but not enough for the massive temp drop we've had over the last few days.
Had to pick up a small oil radiator for a heat source. I also hadn't thought too much about how little insulation the tent provides, esp at night. Covered the tent fully with some old thick duvets & blankets.
Then I had the issue that my extractor fan is single speed and pretty powerful! It was sucking the heat out of the tent within minutes! Decided that I didn't need to have it running all the time so I let it run just a couple hours a day while turning the radiator on full blast to keep the temps to 18c. Time to research some environmental controls.
Started feeding her Biobiz Bio-Grow (little less than their chart recommends just for the first week of veg). I bought the small 3 pack tester set Bio-Grow, Bio-Bloom & Top-Max. I'll be following the chart the entire grow. This is also the first time I'm pouring water/nutes onto the soil rather than spraying it. Starting with 200ml ish (I didn't really measure) and see how it goes.
I forgot to mention that I don't have ratchets for my lights yet so have had to place the pots onto a stack of books to get the right distance from the plants. Around 20 inches seems to be working well, no burning. I also think this may be helpful for insulating the roots from the cold floor.
Things to buy:
Fan/heat controller
ratchets for the leds
Yeeeeew she's growing amazing now. All new growth is looking super healthy. The fan leaves are spreading and getting pretty big!
Still no training or trimming or anything at all other than bumping the nutes to 2ml/lit as according to the chart. Watering every other day a wee bit more as she's quite thirsty. Not sure how much to be honest. Maybe around 250-300ml. (I didn't start measuring until I hit 500ml).
I've managed to find some balance with the environment but I'm still having to do it all manually. Still need to sort the fan/heat controller to automate it a bit. I do enjoy feeling like I'm keeping busy with them so there's no real rush just yet. Any excuse to take another peek at them 😂
Eventful week!
First up I finally scored a good deal on a Rhino Thermostatic speed controller. Initially set the ideal temp to 23c and also upped the thermostat on the radiator. Will take a bit of tweaking to get it just right and not have them fighting each other.
The difference was instant overnight. They were obviously craving more fresh air and so far the environment looks pretty balanced. Happy days! Feel happier leaving them during those 6 hrs of cold darkness now too.
I removed the lowest dodgy leaves.
Reading up on the Haze I know she's going to grow tall so thinking now is a good time top her and think about some low stress training to even out the canopy a little.
Plan is to top first and feed then wait a few days to trim massive fan leaves and open her up
Day 33 the deed was done. Made a nice clean slice. Happy with the result. By Day 36 (last day of the week) she was recovering well with new growth shooting and ready for her first trim
Another exciting week ahead!
Time to prune the massive fan leaves that are shading the entire plant. I trimmed from the bottom up, taking some of the lowest bud sites along the way. I decided to leave the top fan leaves for an extra night to pump a bit more extra energy after the big trim.
Looking good on day 38 so I snipped off the last massive fan leaves and then let her recover for a few days.
I've slightly upped the feeding again getting closer to 500ml every other day, sticking with the same nute mix
By day 41 she's filled out amazingly and looking really strong. She also has a lush shape.
I'll be sticking to my original plan for some LST once the limbs grow slightly longer.
No issues at all this week and really happy with how she's growing. Stoked.
She has recovered well from the trimming and really starting to look good. Can't believe she grew from that mutant seedling!
By day 45 the top limbs looked ready to gently pull back and give the lower branches time to catch up. I used the peg & twine method to ease open the top and peg down. I then carefully worked each lower branch into space if they needed it, tied knots loosely behind the nodes to not hamper their growth.
Day 46 she has sprung back well. Nothing really left to do now other than wait till she's ready for flower. Not long now methinks!
By Day 47 I'm feeling an itchy trigger finger but holding off one more day
Watering now 500ml every other day, still keeping to the same nute schedule
Exciting week flipping to flower!
Switched the light to 12/12
Dropped the light to 12 inches from the tops (Did I mention I bought ratchets for the light?)
Added in the Bio-bloom & TopMax into the nutrient mix. I mixed in a touch less than the recommended dose on the charts as usual (just for the first water)
PH levels haven't really seemed to fluctuate but I haven't measured many times at all. Twice to be exact.
Environment is stable. No issues to think of at all so far.
I'm a little concerned that everything seems to be going so swimmingly without me needing to do much at all! When will it all go wrong?? 😂
Both girls growing stronger everyday. Happy days my friends.
UPDATE - Day 53
She has come back strong from the trim! Tentacles everywhere. The fun begins!

UPDATE - Day 52
As per feedback I took some pics with flash on/led off.
She's looking vigorous & healthy.
Soil was bone dry so I upped the feed to 800ml
I trimmed off the large fan leaves that were blocking bud zones then I decided to continue & clean out the fan leaves that were growing in towards the stem. That really helped open her up to be able to do some light adjustments with LST to get everything growing into clear space.
Will leave her for a few days to recover before upping the nutes.
So far so good 🙏
***************************
A few updated pics of the week so far.
We have little tentacles poking out wooooo!
She's looking good, no issues.
I upped the water to 600ml but after 24hrs she seems to have drank it almost dry. Trying to stay with every 48 hours so will keep tweaking
Kept the light at 12 inches mainly so it covers both plants.
Thinking about trimming off some more fan leaves to open up the buds.
Will update with progress.......
Ps
I started an experiment with one seed from a new batch of random auto seeds from FastBuds. Will see how it grows through a constant 12/12 cycle while the Haze flows through flower to harvest. Then try to identify it 😆 Will start a new diary for that when/if it germinates.
Day 62
Everything's gravy.
Upped the nutes to the full amount. Was very nervous about going overboard but so far they have responded well.
The central area is filling out and reaching up to the canopy. She's shaping up a bit like scrog but without the net!
Apologies for the pics. I just dipped in to take a peek. Will take some better pics without the lights during feed tomorrow.
UPDATE - Day 59
Everything going smoothly.
She's blooming perfectly with bud sites growing all over.
The centre area is filling with bud yeeew.
Upped the feed to 1200ml every other day (Adjusted the diary correctly to 600ml/day).
UPDATE - Day 57
Buds galore! She's still stretching and starting to fill out.
Upped the feed to 1L.
No issues at all.
There's a lush pungent aroma in the tent but it's coming from the skunk.
**************************************
The ladies are blooming well. Upped the nutes and they are responding great! Kinda in auto mode now. Not doing much but feeding them and day dreaming about smoking that first joint.
Day 68
Everything is plain sailing. No issues at all so far. Trimmed a fan leaf here and there but mostly just folding them back out of the way.
They're up to 700ml/day, feeding once every other day. The haze is definitely more thirsty than the skunk, but she is such a bigger plant.
The smell when you first poke your nose through the door is amazing! The mix of both plants' turps profie is starting to fill the tent. Funky sticky skunk smell reminds me of the weed I used to get way back in my teens. The haze smells lighter & fresher and more herbal. I'm terrible with putting smells to words.
Over all I'm over the moon at how well things are going. These ladies are thriving 😁
Day 63
She's still reaching and the buds are bulking.
She looks a picture of health to my untrained eye!
No issues with the nutes intake, I'm now just going to slowly increase the feed amount as she needs it.
Happy days 😁
Everything seems to be going good. I had a bit of an over watering scare. The tent started to smell like damp towels. I noticed the skunk wasn't drinking much so backed off the watering completely for a full 5 days for the pot to feel light! Think growth has been stunted but not sure. She's not showing any visible signs of suffering.
Anyway the damp smell was coming from the haze. I freaked out thinking the roots were rotting so let the pot dry out for 3 days before feeding. Again she hasn't shown any signs of stress throughout. Today the damp smell has started to change into more of a lemony fruity aroma. When you give her a shake it smells amazing!!
The buds are starting to thicken out and the tentacles are turning orange. She has a lovely silver frost forming too. Soooo much bud!! Feel like I'm on the home straight.
Few things I've learned that I'll take to the next grow from the start:
1- I haven't been letting the water stand to let it warm up to room temp. I've been watering straight from the freezing cold tap & probs shocking them.
2 - I also haven't been letting the water stand to de-chlorinate
3 - should have used bigger pots and also should have filled the pots I'm using right to the top. There's a good 2.5 inches of wasted depth
That dream is worth the wait my friend. This girl looks beautiful, I love the structure and shape you've got. I see many bud sites forming and many buds on thier way. Lovely green colour, picture of health. Good job.
@Aldo90,
I will! I just need to mentally prepare myself for the slog of backtracking through it all & uploading all the pics etc. She's looking strong & smells unreal! I think she'll finish a couple weeks before the haze too
Really nice shape developed, if possible take pictures without the purple light. Let's us see the colours of the plant better and also keeps a diary for you to look back on, our memory isn't as perfect as we like to think it is lol
Just flipped so the fun begins. I've been doing autos for years now I've been considering doing photos next. Keep on training the plant as over the next week or 2 she's going to stretch try keep it lower like you already have been doing.
@Aldo90,
Thank you so much for the input! I've just done a trim (bit heavier than planned) so will give her a couple days to recover then will start upping the nutes. Can't wait to see her explode 😁
Autos sound like a pain but fun! Mine has just started sprouting so will add her to the tent at the start of the next light cycle. Not sure if she'll produce anything under constant 12/12, but I might get a nice surprise 😁
@propakush, start upping that topmax also mate thats the flower booster but it's weak, not weak as in its shit weak as in concentration. Don't be scared to go up to 4ml per litre with that stuff now your in flower you want as much pk as possible. The plant will thank you with more flower sites as you have already topped and trained her she will explode in growth.
