Using a Rhaspberry Pi 4 to automate the watering and a TP-link 105 smart plug to automate the Viparspectra P2000 LED grow light. You can see how I automated it here: https://hackaday.io/project/188129-rhaspberry-pi4-basic-watering-system-for-balcony Basically, this is an "Automated Watering how-to Guide for Dummies" - as simple as technically possible. You still require some basic command line expertise, but the steps have been proven and I provide links to the gear I used AND the Node Red code, making this EASIER than anything else I've seen online.

Google DLI (Daily Light Integral) chart and download a DLI meter app on your phone (not 100% accurate) but close enough to tell you how much DLI you are currently giving it, check the chart or run the requested data in the calculator and it will spit out how much DLI it requires for minimal photosynthesis, you would be surprised how little it needs!

@6toecat, I'm sure it does a good job, but there are also many potential breaking points involved in such a system, and that concerns me. That said, I bookmarked your link in case I need it in the future ;)

@love_2_grow,I'm finding the R Pi working really well, I rarely have to intervene. It' s doing an amazing job.

@6toecat, The geek in me almost went with an Arduino or Raspberry Pi based watering solution, but then I realized that I prefer a system where the plants themselves decide when and how much they want to drink, so I went with a Blumat system. Being a low-tech system without any electrical or movable parts is a plus, as it allows for fewer breakpoints.
