Firat DWC so I was a little impatient for the roots to come out. I pulled the rockwool and reseated the plants lower in the hydroton. Roots came out yesterday but I'm sure I stunted growth a little.
Alright, this is my first DWC grow. I have learned some lessons along the way that I can share.
First, only a small layer of hydroton should be put in the bottom of the netpot, then your rockwool. I put about two inches and my roots gave up.
Second, ph perfect, may be good for week 3+ but if you look at the plant there is obviously ph issues. I find that because the solution is so weak there is not enough buffer to lower the ph to an acceptable range. when I do this again I will control my own ph and use a GH flora 3 part at least for the first three weeks.
lastly, I truly like DWC so far vs soil or soiless (coco). I find it's less work, I change the buckets once a week with new solution and just top up daily after checking ppm and ph. It's cleaner and despite ph issue the results are good so far.
still having the ph issues with advanced ph perfect since she seems sensitive to nutes. I need to keep the ppm low (500-600) or she burns and growth stunts.
Started LST today. taped a burnt leaf to the lid. noticed some broken off roots in the soup, not sure what that's about so I added some voodoo juice for root health. also started with calmag.
it's probably the worst looking plant I've ever grown. i really like hydro but I will say it again advanced nutrients ph perfect is causing all sorts of ph issues.
I'm going to see this through and if I can get my hands on some dark devil seeds I will try again with GH flora.
well, the saga continues. The PH perfect has been ok with the other plant I started (I added a side by side pic) but this Dark Devil is not liking it. it has what I'd say is a pretty bad nitrogen overdose. it's stunted its growth, slowed growth and been a major pain. I thought maybe it was user error because this is my first DWC but as you can see from the side by side, the other plant is doing ok.
again I love DWC, and will continue to grow this way but I will be removing the Advanced Nutrients line from my grows and be switching to something that I can control the ph swing.
other than that the smell is great, it's budding really fast, and the purple is really nice. hopefully I get a few good buds to try. I want to try this strain again with different nutes because I've seen the potential it has.
almost embarrassed to show this pics. the PH has balanced now that the ppms are higher but the damage has been done. cal mag is at 2ml/l and seems to be resolved although I believe the cal mag was also because of the ph.
the buds seem to be starting to bulk up now. as you can see the northern lights bedside it is handling the "ph perfect" much better.
we'll see how she handles the next few weeks.
Well you learn it the hard way, but sometimes its like that.In addition youve choosen a "tricky" strain. But she will make it she is in charge, one day the stem begins to fatten from up in direction to down and then she starts to shoot. Happy growing. That begins between week3 and week 4
@Sweet_Seeds, no problem! I'm pretty excited. I hope this one makes it. I killed all my others trying to germ in rockwool so she's a lone wolf. Next time I experiment it will be with bag seed :D
Edit: To be clear, I killed the seeds trying a new growing method. I've had nothing but good results from sweet seeds.
You are right, clawing leaves is the only thing i see....i miss the darkgreen leaves for a overdose of nitrogen..... but on the other side she has an magnesia-calcium defiency....
For me it looks like more like a windburn. Is she always near the fan=?
