Due to the potential loss of another plant, I’ve decided to start this 1 more seed. I know it won’t get super big, but as long as I can take 2 cuttings before she flowers then I’ll have another grow started for inside. I soaked the seed overnight in water with a few drops of hydrogen peroxide, then planted into a hydrated jiffy pellet. After 6 days she was up and enjoying the sunshine. Once I see roots, I will put her into her final pot in the yard. Since it is so late already, I don’t want to muck about with transplant stress.

The first week of this little lady’s life was chilly and rainy and she spent a lot of time under the aerogarden lamp. Whenever possible, she was out in the sun. At. Day 5, I decided there was sufficient roots, so she went straight into her final pot. She’s doing great so far, in spite of the cooler temperatures and little sunshine. She’s working on her second set of leaves now, so I’m optimistic that she’ll take off soon.

Not much changed this week, cool and rainy and not a lot of growth, but working on 3rd set of leaves. There were slugs in the neighboring pots, but so far they’ve not bothered this little one. There’s a little cinnamon on the leaves, I’m hoping to keep the ants out of the pot.

Another week of rain, rain and more rain 🌧️ I measured 3.5 inches in my rain gauge in the garden. A bit more sunshine than we’ve had though and some warmer temps. I’m hoping the growth spurt starts soon!

Another inch and a half of rain this week, but warm and sunny when the rain stopped. Not growing up super fast, but definitely starting secondary growth. I’m really hoping to top her in the next few days, that should increase the secondary growth. I’m waiting for a bit more upward growth so I can cut the top large enough to try and root it. I top-dressed the pot with some worm castings.

Lots more rain this week, one storm dumped 4.5 inches of rain in 14 hours. I attempted to put up a canopy with a cover of greenhouse plastic, but the storm was too powerful. I am going to try again. I topped her on Friday and in 5 days there’s been nice increases in secondary growth. The top I cut off was small, but I’m attempting to root it in my aerogarden. I put out slug bait and there were no more slugs in 48 hours. There’s still plenty around the rest of the yard, so I will remain vigilant.

It's been another rainy week, but thankfully the canopy is holding. Since she is no longer being watered by Mother Nature, I've been giving her 2 gallons of water every other day. As a preventative, I've been spraying twice a week with a mixture of Greencure, pure castile soap and Organocide 3-in-1 Garden spray. (See pictures above for labels) I will keep spraying 2x a week until I see buds forming. Then I will have to reevaluate. I’m still putting slug bait out every 3 days and still only seeing a couple here and there, but none on the plants. She recovered well from the topping and has strong secondary growth. The small top I took has not rooted yet, but I’m not ready to give up. I plan to cut the 2 lowest branches off in the next 2 weeks or so. Daylight hours were 15:06 at the beginning of the week and 14:55 today. Losing light quickly will hopefully kick her into flower!

Not much changed this week, temps were warm during the day and rain every couple of days. She is growing quite well! I am continuing to spray 2x a week with Greencure, Organocide and Castile soap, alternating with Monterey Bt. Still no evidence of WPM or bugs, but I’ll continue to be vigilant. She’s getting 2 gallons of water every 2 days. I’m still putting slug bait out every 3 days and it is keeping the slugs off the girls, so I’ll continue. I’ve put ant traps out under the canopy, hopefully the ants will find somewhere else to live. Daylight hours were 14:55 at the beginning of the week and 14:40 at the end. I’ve seen a few pistils on the lower bud sites, enough to say it’s definitely a girl, but not enough to say flower has started. The branches are still growing opposite, not alternating yet, so she may not be quite mature. Thanks for stopping by! ✌️🌱

Another week passed and she’s still quite happy! The beginning of the week was hot, temps in the low 90s and overnight in the 70s. The end of the week cooled off, with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the upper 50s. We’re still getting rain every 2 or 3 days, sometimes very heavy, but the girls are staying mostly dry under the canopy. I’m watering 2 gallons every other day still. The cabbage moths are active now all thru the yard, I’m hoping the Bt keeps them off these girls. I’m spraying 2x a week, alternating as before with Greencure, Organocide and soap. I top-dressed this week with dry amendments, the same hot veg mix I’ve been using, she got a cup, I sprinkled ground up mosquito dunks as well. I realized that we had a light in the backyard overnight that was lighting up the girls too much. I have corrected that and hopefully it won’t cause any issues. Daylight hours at the beginning of the week were 14:40 and at the end 14:27. I’m expecting to see the start of budlets by the end of this week. Since there’s rooom around her pot, I’ve tied down the 4 main tops. I’m hoping that will encourage the 4 secondary tops to catch up. By that afternoon, she was reaching for the sun again. So far I’m liking growing this variety, she’s not too temperamental and is responding as expected. The top I cut several weeks ago has rooted in the aerogarden. I cut the bottom branch off this week to see if it will root. The lower leaves had started to yellow, before the top-dress, so I’m not sure how well this cutting will root.

Another week of happy growing! I’ve pulled down the primary tops a few times to spread her out, 2 of the secondary tops are catching up. The leaves keep getting bigger and bigger. I’ve surrounded the canopy on 2 sides with some reed fence. My hope is to have some separation from the surrounding vegetation, and also make them less visible to others 😉 Growth is still opposite nodes and only a few pistils to show maturity. She is 63 days from seed. I hope she doesn’t take too long, fall can get wet around here and she needs 8 to 10 weeks to finish. Daylight hours were 14:25 at the beginning of the week and 14:13 at the end. I’m continuing to spray 2x a week, as before, no sign of WPM and less of a bug presence. I manually remove the few that I find. Watering with 2 gallons every other day is still working. Sending out good growing vibes 🌱🌞🌱

Not much changed this week, weather has been consistent 80s/60s with rain every 2 or 3 days. I’m still watering 2 gallons every other day and spraying 2x a week. She’s still growing leaves bigger and bigger and bigger! Bottom leaves were yellowing so I top-dressed with flower nutrients and worm castings. Node growth is still opposed and pistil count is the same, not in flower yet. Daylight hours were 14:11 at the beginning and 13:53 at the end. Let’s hope for the start of buds by next week 🤞🤞🤞
