Don't be scared to give hydro a go! It's much easier than people think & less maintenance than some other types of growing. Not as time consuming as it's automated, such as watering. The quality & yields are very impressive as well.

Soil: more permissive. Light: Mars Hydro FC-****-Evo series (with the most efficient mid-power SMD LED of the market: LM301H-Evo) Nutrients: mineral/chelated nutrients because it's directly available to the plant, so you can correct deficiencies/excess quicker than with organics who needs to degrated before bein available to the plant. Strains: no stats sorry. I just like Barney's Farm mainly, solid stuff, you should try it. But don't fall for an "autoflower" varieties, you need more EXP to grow them. Soil: something fluffy, with good water retention. Depending of you localisation, you can have differents brands available. I go with Guano Diffusion Zero-Mix mixed with a bit of vermicompost (my own or the one from Biobizz). Container: Air-Pot (the original with big holes, not the copies), best air triming, make repotting less stressfull, for you and for the plants (no need to cut wirled roots).

Depends what you are trying to grow. If autos you want a light substrate like coco/perlite, or dwc. Otherwise they don't do very well. I prefer fabric over plastic. More air to roots also it prunes the roots as it grows. There is a lot of light and nutrition companies. I would stay away from cheap unknow brands. Nutrition needs to be workable and not have super high values of npk. Vegging npk ratio 3-1-2, flowering npk ratio 1-2-3. Seed companies it is a hit and miss per company and strain.
