11/14-Placed seed in water overnight
11/15-Placed seed in paper towel, inside baggie, in covered container on heating pad at 90 degrees inside dark cabinet. I also heated the cabinet to 90 degrees and by end of the day the seed was showing a tiny root. By tomorrow morning I'm betting its a half inch. I have prepped the coco coir by getting the ppm under 80 and will add a tiny amount of nutes into the mix. I'll be following the recipe above but at 50% of what is listed.
11/16-Taproot emerged. Placed in prepped coco with mild nute mix. Lights set on blue spectrum and 320 ppfd.
11/18-Early morning the seed has popped through the coco and started its journey. Germination ends.
Week #1-Nov 19 to Nov 25
11/19-Germination went smoothly now the seedling stage.I'll keep the watering and nutes light this first week.
11/22-So far so good for the first 4 days. I'll start to gently add some nutes and monitor.
11/24-Looking very healthy so far.
11/25-Did full watering with increased nutes to runoff. That should last a couple of days. I've had the lights on 24/7 for this first week to encourage growth. Tomorrow I'll go to my normal 19/5 schedule. Good first week.
Week #2-Nov 26 to Dec 2
11/26-Increased nutes and watered to runoff for the first time.
11/28-Watered to runoff again at 5.5 ph and .96 EC. Plant is developing nicely with good leaf structure and nice even green color. Increased light level to 400 PPFD.
11/30-Watered to runoff. Continues to develop nicely.
12/2-Solid week of growth with no signs of nute overload so I'll increase this coming week.
Week #3-Dec 3 to Dec 9
12/5-Watered to runoff with increased nutes.
12/6-Trimmed bottom leaves from node 1. She is looking very healthy so I decided to FIM this baby between 4th and 5th node to control height and increase yield. Let's see how it works out.
12/7-So far she is showing no adverse effects from the FIMming last night. Watered to runoff with increased nute load in the water. No adverse effects observed, she is nice and green and the leaves are all well formed. So far so good.
12/8-Plant seems to have handled the FIMming without a hitch and growth is already starting at the area of the cut. The plant is healthy and growing more wide than vertical at this point. Once she starts going vertical I'll start some LST to get her 'shaped' up. I upped the nute load for secondaries a bit so we are now at about 1,060 ppm.
12/9-Watered to runoff with EC at 1.43. Trimmed a couple small branches under the canopy. So far its been a very routine and productive first 3 weeks. FIMming went without a hitch, the leaves are green and healthy, and the plant is how starting to grow vertical (up to 4.5 inches now). Looking forward to some even quicker growth in the next week.
Week #4-Dec 10 to Dec 16
12/10-Trimmed 2 more bottom leaves. Height up to 5 inches now. Looking healthy.
12/11-Started LST today.
12/12-Watered to runoff. Trimmed 4 big fan leaves from under the canopy and did more LST. My goal is wide canopy and medium height.
12/14-Watered to runoff.
12/16-Watered to runoff. EC is 165. First month is in the rear view mirror now. Plant is up to 7 inches in height and looking very healthy. No sign of preflower yet so I decided to do one final trim and LST shaping before flowering starts. At this point I always worry that I've overdone it but my past experience tells me that I'll know in a week or so. If I got it right, in the end the plant will have a number of big fat colas with lots of room for light and air which I'm hoping gets a bigger yield of bigger, fatter buds. We shall see.
Week #5-Dec 17 ro Dec 23
12/17-Plant is showing no ill effects from the last trim. I slightly increased the secondary nutes. No signs of preflower yet.
12/19-Starting to fill in after trim. Up to 8 inches now. I think she's got another week to 10 days of vegging before I see some pre-flower.
12/20-Watered to runoff. EC 172.
12/21-She is definitely starting to get vertical now. Did another small trim prior to preflower to get the canopy level and open for flowering.
12/22-Watered to runoff at 1.75 EC
12/23-End of week 5 of veg and still no sign of pistils/preflower. Plant is healthy and green. The canopy is starting to get some width and the larger branches are starting to get more vertical.
Week #6-Dec 24 to Dec 30
12/24-Watered to runoff 1.68
12/26-Switched to Bloom schedule. Did another small trim and LST as we head into bloom. Canopy is fairly even in height and branches are starting to get more vertical.
12/27-Watered to runoff at EC 1.60.
12/28-Grew another inch to 11. Cleaned out the lower branches to focus on the 7 emerging colas.
Week #7-Dec 31 to Jan 6
12/31-Increase nute load slightly. Watered to runoff EC 1.55 .
1/2-Watered to runoff at 1.57 EC. She grew another 2 inches to 14 inches over last 2 days. I've been stretching the canopy to get a wide even look that will get lots of light into the interior.
1/4-Watered to runoff. EC was a bit higher which I'll keep an eye on. Continues to stretch up to 16" now.
1/6- Saw some huge stretching this week and bud site development. I expect that to continue next week. I'm very interested to see if I can get the kind of THC numbers that FastBuds is promoting. Things seem to be shaping up nicely.
Week #7-Jan 7 to Jan 13
1/7-Plant continues to stretch. Grew almost 2 inches yesterday. More bud sites are emerging. Now that the branches are heading north I've tied the main branches to some planting sticks to pull them back from the center slightly to make sure the interior has plenty of light. Watered to runoff at 1.60 EC.
1/9-Upped the nute load to EC 1.75. Continues stretch to 22 inches now. In spite of the early FIMiming it's got a tall main cola towering above the rest. However, its got 5 other large colas and a nicely shaped canopy that is getting lots of light to other mid level bud sites. I'm feeling good about this one.
1/11-Up to 24 inches now. Looking good.
11/13-Solid week of growth. Lots of new bud sites. 1 supercola and 5 major colas growing. Canopy spread nicely for maximum light. Next 3-4 weeks I hope to see the buds fattening and getting frosty.
Week #-Jan 14 to Jan 20
1/15-First signs of trichomes. Buds are starting to stack. Secondary colas are catching up to main cola in height.
1/18-Watered to runoff after little mini-flush the day before. Looks like the stretching is done now and the bud sites are starting to get frosty and fatten up. I think now she's got another 3-4 weeks in her to harvest.
1/20-Great week of growth. Buds are stacking, getting more frosty, and getting more dense. I'm looking for next week to be even better.
Week #10-Jan 21 to Jan 27
1/21-Trimmed some leaves in the middle to get more light. Watering to runoff daily and she is sucking it all up. Pistils are starting to turn orangeish and getting frostier each day. I think we've 2 to 3 weeks more of fattening up before flush and harvest.
1/23-Added Overdrive into the mix. Top buds are starting to tighten up and getting more dense.
1/25-Spread the major branches out a bit wider with the support sticks tied to the branches. Canopy is wide open and hopefully this will fatten up the mid tier buds. She's looking very healthy. Alot more of the pistils are turning orange. Did a little mini-flush with RO water to lower runoff EC a bit.
1/27-Lots of progress this week. Pistils are turning colors now in a big way. The buds are getting more dense and frosty. The trichomes are starting to get cloudy but still no amber.
Week #11-Jan 28 to Feb 3
1/29-I inadvertently clipped off a little branch in the middle of the plant this morning as I was trimming some leave. I also took a picture of the trichomes to see how developed they were. It's definitely a bit early and some trichomes are still clear but most of them are getting cloudy. This is also a chance to use my Cannatrol Dry/Cure unit to see whether the buds will be smokeable in a week to 10 days.
1/30-Buds are really starting to get dense. Pistils are turning orange. Top leaves are starting to show signs of yellowing. I'm thinking another week to 10 days and she'll be ready to start flushing and then harvest. Very happy with the progress of the last 10 days.
2/1-More of the same.
2/3-Top buds are ripe and ready to go. Mid and lower tier are close but not there yet. I'm starting the flush today and will likely cut the 6 big colas and get them drying and curing and let the rest of the plant go for another few days to catch up. This baby was a little slow to flower but has really closed fast. UPDATE-Looked at trichomes and saw that the trichomes on top were starting to turn amber so I cut the 6 top colas before I see any more amber. I'm hoping that I've found the highest THC levels and keep the smoke on the more energetic rather than stony side of things. In addition, because this plant caught up so fast in the end I've cut them with not much of a flush. So I'll get a chance to see (for better or worse) if it really tastes any different. Up until now I've always done at least a 7 day flush. But I'll say this right now. The buds I've cut look spectacular! Finally, up until now I've typically cut the buds from the stems and placed them on a drying rack to dry for 7 to 10 days. This time I trimmed the buds all the way down to final but I've left them on the stem and hung them in the Cannatrol Coo Cure unit. I leave them in for a couple of days to dry before I cut the buds off to keep the fresh buds from getting 'flattened' on one side on the trays. Right now the 6 cuts wet weight on the stems is 253 grams which is about 9 ounces. I'll weigh them again when they are off the stems.
2/4-Start flush with Flawless Finish. Lowered lights to 18 inches.
2/6-Watering with RO water only now to flush. Checking trichomes for amber. Today I made another cut (#2) of buds, trimmed them, and placed them in Cannatrol Cool Cure box to dry. Weight weight was 105.3 grams.
2/8-made another cut yesterday, trimmed and placed into the Cannatrol Cool Cure box to dry and cure. I'll wait now until day 84 to harvest the rest. Total wet weight so far is 510.4 grams. Based on my past drying experience of around 25% will be dry weight this baby is looking to yield 4.55oz so far with one cut left to go. What I'm dying to see is if the Cool Cure box will increase that yield because it keeps the drying temps and dew point at the precise best level throughout. Let's see how we do in the end.
NOTE-If you are wondering why there is crumpled tin foil in the box here's why. In the past when I placed the cut buds in my old dry rack with netting if I did not 'roll' the buds over frequently they would get flattened on one side from the weight of the wet buds on the netting surface (which was pretty soft). The shelves in the Cool Dry curing box are made of aluminum and are much stiffer. That's why I hung the 1st cut rather than cut them into buds and put them on the racks. So when I had to cut more buds it was obvious I could not hang them all. So it occurred to me that if I could find a way to make the surface of the trays uneven while still capable of supporting the weight of the wet buds without flattening them that would be much easier. Voila....crumpled aluminum foil. And so far its working. No flat spots!
This strain was easy to grow. It was my first time growing a FastBuds strain and it turned out great. The THC levels was nearly 22% which is significantly less than the World Record levels but very punchy indeed. It really does have a unique wonderful smell to it in the bag and a great taste when smoking. The yield of over 5 ounces was beyond expectation. Great addition to my collection !
This plant was alot of fun to grow. In then end she yielded 789.9 grams wet weight which was harvest in stages over the course of 8 days. That number is realistically heavier than normal because the I did not cut the buds off the stem. Based on my past experience if the dry weight nets out at between 20% and 25% that would be a dry yield of over 5 ounces which is well beyond my expectations. However, unlike past grows I'm using the Cannatrol Cool Cure system in the drying and curing process. I can already tell that its making a difference by dialing in and maintaining the proper temperature and humidity levels and I'd be shocked if my end yield is not at or above the 25% of the wet weight. We shall see. I'll report back in a couple of weeks on the final dry weight and smokeability. I've already done a few taste tests after first cut of buds had dried for 4 days and it tasted great and packed a heavy punch! I reckon its only going to get better.
