6 total seeds were germinated via paper towel method, then into Rapid Rooters as soon as they had tails. At first only 2/3 of the Bahama Mama seeds germinated, then the 3rd finally popped a couple days later. Only 2/3 of the Mind Melter seeds ever germinated. Just to get clones in rotation and harvest asap, I decided to grow all of them in a 17gal DWC tote using a Scrog screen to keep the canopy as even as possible.
2 of the Bahama Mama and 2 of the Mind Melter have Germinated and are popping up out of the Rapid Rooters. The 3rd Bahama Mama seed had cracked open a day late and the 3rd Mind Melter never cracked open. I am transplanting all of the seedlings into their forever container. I am using my shower to Veg as it was cold outside. I grabbed a Mars Hydro TS 1000 recently and this thing is amazing for vegging.
The Mind Melter plants and one of the Bahama Mama plants took off right out of the gate. They are growing much faster than the other 2 Bahama Mama Seedlings which aren't quite big enough to be transplanted.
The 2 Mind Melter plants have exploded with growth in a short time. One of the Bahama Mama plants is keeping up but has far les vegetation. The other 2 Bahama Mama seedlings are still a week behind in growth. I am worried how I will even this canopy out and in hindsight I wish I had put the Mind Melter plants in opposite corners but their root systems are entangled at this point already so I am leaving them
Growth has continued to increase and the smaller Bahama Mama plants are big enough for heavier feeding so I have drained and refilled, upping the nutrient amount from 0.5mL per Gal to 3mL per Gal. The 2 Mind Melter plants are growing twice as fast as the Bahama Mama so I decided to top both of them. I am also beginning to train the middle plant (BM 1) back towards the open site to get better overall canopy coverage.
Topping the Mind Melter plants seems to have only encouraged them. They are starting to really takeover but I am here for it. As much as I am looking forward to the Bahama Mama, I am really on the hunt for a fast growing, fast flowering, heavy yield strain and Mind Melter is ticking the boxes so far. I have increased the nutrient amount to 6ml per Gallon until I am ready to flower them and included a picture of the Mars Hydro light, this is the first time I am using it.
I let everything veg for 2 more weeks so that all of the Bahama Mama plants would be big enough to flower. The Mind Melter's growth is just ridiculous in comparison to Bahama Mama. I can tell there will be far more budsites on the Mind Melter plants. I have defoliated them pretty extensively and moved them out into one of my flowering cabinets under an old Mars Hydro Epistar Pro 160 with just the Veg (Blue) lights on. This light has produced pounds of bud for me over the years, as old school as it is I still use it daily with great results.
I let them veg for 1 week and Mind Melter has almost completely filled it's half of the screen. The smaller Bahama Mama plants are still reaching for the screen and the yield will definitely be diminished. I could not let the Mind Melter's get any bigger though so this is why I am flowering now. I also have added the Mars Hydro TS1000 into the cabinet so I can lower it down above my smaller Bahama Mama plants. This should also help with the temps as they are really starting to dip which I am sure is slowing growth.
Week 3 of flower and the purple is really starting to come out in the Bahama Mama plants. They are also starting to smell like vanilla spice which is most noticeable when I first open the cabinet for the day. The purple buds are very noticeable against the bright green and white buds of the Mind Melter plants. Oddly enough, one of the Bahama Mama plants does not have any purple in the buds. There are probably twice as many Mind Melter bud sites as I expected, and it all smells so very sweet.
All of the buds are starting to put on weight and the smell has increased quite a bit. The Bahama Mama buds are still putting on a lot of new purple growth with the exception of 1 plant that is not purple at all. The Mind Melter buds are all bigger at this point, and there are twice as many of them. If this was all Mind Melter the cabinet would be much more full. Feeding has been increased to max for flowering, which for me is 8mL per gallon of Floranova Bloom
Everything is frosting up nicely and the smell is extremely pungent. The Mind Melter nugs already are full of cloudy trichomes and some of the sugar leaves even have a couple amber, at 7 weeks flower!! I am really looking forward to an all Mind Melter run soon! The Bahama Mama buds all look and smell so great. The purple ones especially are better looking than anything I have grown before. The plants are all pretty leggy though and the bud spacing is very far apart compared to the Mind Melter.
Time to harvest! All buds are nice and dense and I am seeing about 5% amber at a minimum in trichome development so they are ready, right at 8 weeks flower.
Overall it was a great grow, and I am pleasantly surprised by Solfire genetics. The Bahama Mama looks just as advertised and is definitely a crowd pleaser. I have grown out multiple Bahama Mama plants now and they do tend to grow a bit slower, and produce less than other strains. They also take longer to clone as the stems get very woody very fast. Still a great smoke and if you don't require a high yield this is a strain I would highly recommend.
The Bahama Mama was so beautiful that I hardly took any pictures of the Mind Melter. However, this is the strain I was looking for! The growth rate was insane, and it produced 2x better than the Bahama Mama. I got a little over 4oz off 2 plants and the Bahama Mama only yielded 2.5oz off 3 plants. The mind melter smells very sweet and the buds are very large and dense.
